FRED HOTH & BIG BED - Fish Rocks

A fine example of suburban home made punk rock ,of the 1,2,3,4 GO!!! style,which sounds as if they've been playing these songs for years,in other words ,Fucking Great!! ! This is Doug Boone ,Mike Smith ,and Brian Reed ,and someone plays bass on some of this too! These guys were also in the bands ,"Kindergarden Terror" , and "Pigtales" ,which is posted somewhere else on this blog! If you love kids playing slam-dancin',funny as hell ,punk rockin' songs ,then this is for you ( I know you would totally be into this ,Ashey!!) . A cover of Sonny & Cher's ,"I Got You, Babe" ,from this recording ,was featured on last year's massive 100 band compilation , "Popeil Punk / K-Tel Kore" ,also to be found elsewhere on this here blog! Plus they cover Devo's ,"Whip It" ,with funny results.And how can you not download this , with songs like ,"I'm Going To Move Into An Apartment With Ted Nugent's Mom" , "Phil Donahue Smokes Crack" , "If We Can Walk Together ,Why Can't We Mosh Together?" , "The Day They Kicked Lizzie Borden Out Of R.E.M." ,and other hilarious titles. And the album title ,does it have anything to do with John "Fish" ,from Record Bar?(later Tracks). And the lyrics are even funnier ,some border on GG Allin's foul mouthed librettos! Doug gave me this tape years ago, and I highly recommend it! I'm hoping one of the guys from this band will contact me,and maybe shed more light on this great lost Ft. Myers band!!

KILLERSVILLE-120 minutes with....

this is me,mike,and dug,thoroughly thrashing on mtv's 120 minutes,hosted by matt pinfield,on 9/2/96.some of the worst music is heard in the backround,and we had to see the videos that go along with that crappy music.we review each entry,rag on them till they change to the next video victim.a real comedy act,i did this sort of thing in my magazine rodent cake a few times,but this is audio,you are there!really funny and fun,not a full 120 minutes(well it actually is ,compressed)cuz the tape was recorded slower,so on playback,we sound like helium fiends.making it even funnier!everyone should get toasted tonite,and put this on,crank it up,and throw in your own comments,i'm sure you will!

SUPERCREEP

this is tardcore by sheer virtue of acid addled brain damage.richard martin on vox,brian reed drums,dave on bass,dug boone guitar,and steve reed guitar.they all play everything and switch up on vocals sometimes.i also hear keys and harmonica at points.most of this sounds like the recording style of the original old black bluesmen,and some lyrics and tunes have that downtrodden bluesy feel.richard is quite a character.some of his vocals are reminiscent of g.g.allin or sam kinison.and according to the song ,"richard's lament","he looks like sam kinison ,on a bad day,without his make-up on".features the worst covers you'll ever hear of u2's"sunday bloody sunday",and ac/dc's"highway to hell".funnier than hell!the longest ,and final track"we're orcs!",is uncharacteristic of the rest of the tape,and should be a college rock hit!there are some instrumental jams sprinkled in,and these guys thank the grateful dead and phish and hendrix in their liner notes.kinda like a tardcore mix of those artists.broken into 2 files ,as it was long.punks who became deadheads,this is punk!vive le' tardcore!

KILLERSVILLE

this is a(mostly) instrumental trio of me,mike smith,and doug boone.i would compare it to music you hear on fuel tv,on skate/surf/snowboard videos and shows.just good rockin' stuff,i'm on bass,doug guitar,mike drum.there is much more of this,so stay tuned.the songs that do have vocals,are pretty bizzare and funny.another band,done in tandem with this one,"the new left class"(me,mike,vance) is very similar,i'll post some of that next.dig it,play this at the next x-games!thanks.

MOOM PITCHERS

i know,another weird name,and it comes with a story.we were listening to a mrs. miller album and in the liner notes it had a segment where they talked about her t.v. appearances,and some questions she was asked,one of which was,"what does she like to do with her spare time?",to which she replied she,"liked moom pitchers",which we deciphered as,"moving pictures"ie:the movies.just a strange way to say things,i guess.anyway the name stuck for 4 sessions,all of which is here.there is some 4-track tomfoolery,more live stuff than anything,and the band is mostly me,joel,and mike,tho' dug appears on the last 6 songs.aunt christy sings on "christine's tune".hard to pin down an exact sound except to say,"space vixens",the title of a song,and the original moniker,(for a few days),which kinda describes the sound,but not as well as you would like.still cool.check out a song about tony,"homily boy".i think you may agree ,moom pitchers is quite possibly the most debonair band to have existed in their time(1/19/96-2/4/96),and as you can see the post below is the band that followed up on this band about a week later.pretty comparable to "the new space rock extravaganzas",a nice companion piece,with the same members,we used to change band names like our socks,we were so fickle.sounds like moom pitchers,for sure,tubular dudes!

COUGAR MELONSCENT

Dug Boone again,this time with Gainesville folks,Dug on guitar,(some of his solo stuff is mixed in here too)hard to pin down sound,I hear Sonic Youth,electronic blippy stuff,Meat Puppet like instros,weird samples,pretty cool and quirky sound.I don't know if any one in the band even has this material,as their myspace page has none of these tracks,check it out.

PIGTALES

like kindergarden terror,brian is here with his obnoxious vocal style,mike is on drums and dug on guitar.a punk trio to be reckoned with.just funny lyrics(like kindergarden terror)about everything from slayer("slayer sucks"),to nursery rhymes("mary had a little lamb"),to the blues("bearhead blues",and"boxcar blues").i even found a bonus track in the form of the tape they used was taped over one of those "guy in the mall playing the keys at a music store" type of keyboards,with a little tune dingling on there,at the end of the tape.great laffs,and punk rockin as hell.obvious crossover sound,they got the crowd chantin,"fuck slayer,f-f-f-f-fuck slayer!"art by brian again i believe.link here:http://www.mediafire.com/file/iimtimjymzy/PIGTALES.zip

KINDERGARDEN TERROR

ABI HAII-fypo in 5 parts

since we're on the subject of dug and mike here's a duo they formed for this one-off project,"abi haii".mike was living with me at the time and once i woke up and went out to the garage to do some recording,i found this in the 4-track,quite a find too!don't be fooled by the title,there's only 4 parts,ha ha,jokers are they.kinda laid back mostly instrumental songs,which bridge the gap between the last post and the next world.if you imbibe,you will enjoy,for the curious,it's a joyride of franks and beans and jam on axe.all hail the newest instro gods,abi haii! A TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF CORT

Sadly,a great human died,a great friend to many,a pacifist,anarchist,punk rockin' dude,who was the kindest guy you could ever meet.I can imagine him walking old ladies across the street in heaven.Yes ,Cort Sayer is missed by many and I hope all who loved him will leave a comment or a kind word or even a little anecdote about our dear friend.This post has 3 bands,2 of which Cort was a member.Now as far as I know,Cort didn't play an instrument,didn't sing,and wasn't in a band.so it may come as a surprise to many that he did do these couple of bands in Sept. of 1996.Cort sings,plays and hangs out with the gang.The first band featured here is "BALD HEADED CHICKEN FUCKER"with me,Cort,Mike Smith,and Dug Boone,and sounds like an american Boredoms meets a chicken salad sandwich,quite tasty!Next up is "STOOL AND THE SOFTNERS"which is me ,Cort,Vance,and Dug,and is like a rocking quartet of idiots,who someone tried to record once,sounding rather 90's I might add.Last is one track from"KINDERGARDEN TERROR",named"Cort Song",and is quite prophetic,lyrically.The band is Brian Reed(vocals),Mike Smith(drums),Dug Boone(guitar),and Jim(bass),and is the kind of obnoxious punk that Cort liked.I will post that tape in it's entirety soon along with a companion band,sounding much the same but a trio,(no Jim on bass)called "PIGTALES".Cort was everyone's friend and I'm sure we will all miss him forever.Cry a tear,and leave a note for the memory of Cort,an awesome guy.
