ONE FELL SWOOP - Prepare My Dome

With a Chipmonk lookalike on the cover, and more of the downtrodden ,blues sound ,that they were playing at the time, this is another winner! One from the set-list is here ,Chipmonks
's moment ,"Out The Way" ,kind of has a Sonic Youthy feel to it. "Ringing Water" starts it off and some of my favorite tunes follow ,(tho this thing is not to be missed),"Gun And You" ,and "Tired Of Self". The most surreal and "One of these things just don't belong" moments on here ,is the last track ,"Dirt Throwing Crowd Screaming Nazi" ,a joyous sing-a-long ,that you will be singing along to ,whether you want to or not ,as it will become imbedded in your brain-meat.Also an appearance by Gramps on , "Do They Sell Dirty Blankets At The Store?" ,for comic relief. Recorded 11/16/1991.

ONE FELL SWOOP - Smoking Mom's Horrible Thin Twigs

From 10/17/1991 ,20 years ago, today! The title is taken from what Chipmonk told us ,about not being able to afford cigarettes. He had gotten into a mess by stealing his mom's car for a drug-fueled joyride, and wrecking it,and he was basically paying off his debt to his mom. The album of tunes here ,reflect that downtrodden blues feeling ,of being without the basic necessities.A song title also spells out more of Chipmonk's frailties and foibles ,"Oh The Hair,I Cut All My Hair Off (And Lost My Wallet!)". There is also a Sly & The Family Stone cover song ,"Thank You Falletinme Be Mice Elf ,Again" , which Chipmonk sings and plays in the college-rock stylee. A sad day in the history of OFS. p.s. - Kunga Sludge only got 3 downloads! What's up? It's a good one! Sid Caesar was a smoker!

CAT MACHINE - Unplugged !

Live from Tony's room,11/10/90,recorded between midnite and 3 a.m.,with special guests ,Billy Drake,Shane Carwile,Katie Ball, and Christian Vic,(who showed up towards the end ,and crashed on the couch).Ed and Joel, the other 2/3rds of the core, were also in attendance. An acoustic outing, using guitar, pipes, and flutes, sampling, all manners of percussion, and some of the weirdest lyrics, this side of the pail.About the last 2o minutes is Ed,with an acoustic guitar, spitting stream of conciousness, free style words,to an audience of sleeping participants,to his humor, and their discontent.Funny as hell, and a few songs stand out,Tony's centerpiece,"Another One Drink",which he wrote, everyone singing in unison on,"Lost My Mind For A Moment(Fuck Magic Bus)",a totally different from the previous version,"Crude Being Made Flesh",and a cover of B.T.O.'S ,"Takin' Care Of Business",which sounds like drunken derelicts behind a dumpster. The rest of the tunes defy description, only to say they sound like Cat Machine, leaves much to the imagination. Not their usual sound, tho' they did use acoustic styles on the song,"When The Apeman Smiles",on a later studio tape,to great effect,as well as the tune,"Treehouse" on another later recording, but never before or since ,have they performed a whole tape acoustically. This was right around the time mtv was starting their Unplugged series,so we ran with it.Folky, punky, bluesy, and Shane does a drum solo,on an improvised drum set! This is worth your while, you will be amused, and looking forward to the next tape, dated 11/28/90,just after Thanksgiving!

SUPERCREEP

this is tardcore by sheer virtue of acid addled brain damage.richard martin on vox, brian reed drums, dave on bass, dug boone guitar, and steve reed guitar.they all play everything and switch up on vocals sometimes.i also hear keys and harmonica at points.most of this sounds like the recording style of the original old black bluesmen, and some lyrics and tunes have that downtrodden bluesy feel.richard is quite a character.some of his vocals are reminiscent of g.g.allin or sam kinison.and according to the song ,"richard's lament","he looks like sam kinison ,on a bad day, without his make-up on".features the worst covers you'll ever hear of u2's"sunday bloody sunday",and ac/dc's"highway to hell".funnier than hell!the longest ,and final track"we're orcs!",is uncharacteristic of the rest of the tape, and should be a college rock hit!there are some instrumental jams sprinkled in,and these guys thank the grateful dead and phish and hendrix in their liner notes.kinda like a tardcore mix of those artists.broken into 2 files ,as it was long.punks who became deadheads, this is punk!vive le' tardcore!

WITHDRAWAL

more out of state bands on sluggisha!these guys hail from st louis, missouri, and kinda have a slight husker du feel to them.slightly emo, includes a misfits cover.talk of punk being retro in 1994 and kinda downtrodden depressing bluesy mood is created.melancholy and reminiscent of the old days, but with a new sound, not bad.
