W,G,O,D, # 83 - 9/9/99 - PUB ROCK COVER SONGS!!

The pub rock series of episodes stopped at #79. Shows 80,81,and 82 ,were standard programming,but on this episode ,#83 ,I brought back the U.K. punks ,for another go ,this time doing cover versions of some of their favorite/least favorite songs ,from bands that came before them. A lot of punks covered the beatles for some reason ,and I think the drunken,live, Sham 69 version of "With A Little Help From My Friends",is tops ,on that list ,and also the Damned with ,"Help" (Thanks Captain!) .There is a set of covers by some of the Sluggisha Tapes stable , with only a Fall cover (By Ephedrine Symphony) taking up with the U.K. versions ,the rest are ,well look below and read the tracklist! W.G.O.D. # 76 - 7/29/1999 -ALL U.K. PUB ROCK FROM (MOSTLY) 1976

Back with the next podcast of U.K. "pub rock" ,trying to zoom in on the year 1976 ,as this was episode #76 of the W.G.O.D. radio programs.Originally broadcast July 29,1999 ,with pints of Guinness and li'l Eddie.Thanks for most all of the music, from an old friend,Leo Johnson ,who owns tons of original U.K. singles and LPs ,which he procured on a few trips there ,in 1976 thru 1980.Also thanks to Joel and Ashey ,who also provided a couple things played here.This was broadcast before the advent of (at least for me) home computers ,so access to all this music was not as easy as it is now.
There are still a few more tapes to come, in this series ,sporting even more U.K. punk,pub,ska,reggae,dub,oi! ,etc. from back in the days of old. I will attempt to create the atmosphere of a dingy ,run-down ,english pub ,that has the best beer ,and plays the best music. Drink up!!

THE DONNAS/TOILET BOYS split 7"

The Donnas ,towards the end of their existence ,sounding much like the Runaways and Kiss ,and other 70's hard rock outfits ,meet the Toilet Boys ,who also favor the sound of 70's styled hard rock ,put this split out thru Lookout Records back in 1999. I like the Donnas ,but I prefer the early stuff ,when they were aping the Ramones.The Toilet Boys ,well,I've never seeked out any of their other stuff ,so I can't really speak on them,other than to say ,their lead singer looks like a girl ,but is not! This is pretty rockin' though! On pure white vinyl (see pics in zip)

FOG - Jezabel's Dream

Gothic/atmospheric death metal ,is what we have here on this rarity. Their only release (they had a previous life as "Fear Of God" (note the acronym) ,with a female lead singer (Dawn Crosby) ,who died.(read more here http://www.fear-of-god.com/ ).And here's an interesting historical note: former and current members of Dying Fetus, Agent Steel, Pessimist, Wrathchild America/Souls At Zero, Lizzy Borden, and Crowbar at some time or another were part of FOG precursors Fear Of God and Detente (an earlier band). I've include a few tracks from Fear Of God ,and one from an earlier band ,"Allies". Plus I put a cool video from Fear Of God. Not half as good as the black metal band of the same name,but decent.
