W.G.O.D. #21 - (Underground punk radio show originally broadcast sometime in 1992)

Hey kiddies! ,Here's another episode of a classic W.G.O.D. radio episode ,with my special in-studio guest ,Fred ( a/k/a Jeff McDonald ,not formerly of Redd Kross). All musical bases are touched on ,here! This is before the Sluggisha Tapes sets became a staple of the show ,before I began putting the date on each archive cassette tape, and long before Doug Shannon was doing voice-overs for me.Very early show ,I sound inexperienced as hell ,and we rag on a rival pirate station ,with their hosts ,Dorky & Dicky ,and even play snippets from their show (they were broadcasting at the same time we were doing this show!) ,and I believe we also made crank calls to their phone ,which was not on the same site which they were broadcasting from ,but a remote site. Anyways ,here's the list ,and enjoy this blast from the past , originally broadcast sometime in 1992!

THE BEATLES - What's The New Mary Jane?
DAVE ROTH - Good Day Sunshine (Beatles)
THE DWARVES - Skin Poppin' Slut / SFVD / Drugstore
IGGY POP - Shake Appeal / 1969 (bootleg 7")
BEASTIE BOYS - Ode To.../ Shadrach Mission
BLATZ - Lullabye
THE DEAD MILKMEN - How It's Gonna Be
T. REX - Rip-off
NEGATIVLAND - Live Here (edit)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
PATO BANTON - Don't Sniff The Coke
THE BIRTHDAY PARTY - Scum (rare flexi-disc)
SONIC YOUTH - White Kross (live! 12")
TEENAGE JESUS & THE JERKS - Orphans
GORE - Mean Man's Dream

ONE FELL SWOOP - Live At The Draft House 2/7 or 2/14/1992

It's a mystery when this show was recorded. It's listed on the cassette cover as the 7th ,but on another mix it's listed as the 14th. I put up the flyers from both shows ,one of which was not recorded ,at least I could not locate it in the vault.Black Nerd only played with us once ,and this was not the time ,despite the flyer. Pillows ,was a Michael Griffin (rip) noise project ,and I'm not sure about the Nomadz ,but I do know Boneshaker's original name was The North Cape Nomadz ,then TRV , for Tony,Ron,Vance ,the boys in the band. This is not your typical OFS live tape. It's pretty much Chipmonk's show ,as ,unbeknownst to either Joel or I ,Chipmonk had placed the microphone we were recording the show with ,right in front of his amp. It's just like him to pull some shit like that ,and after only a few more shows together (posted here soon!) the band was over. Joel said this about the tape : "Of sub-bootleg quality, actually it barely qualifies as a bootleg". The vocals ,my guitar ,and the drums ,are virtually washed out by Chipmonk's wall of jealous noise. There are some fine moments here ,including an improv instro (Magic Bowel Movement -Symphony In E Minus) , a bunch of cover songs,a lengthy and funny version of "Teach Wants Quiet" ,and a spoken word ending ,"The Ant-ectdote" ,a story of ants that is a parable of our times (the 90's). The audience was small but receptive. If you love the Chipmonk ,this is the tape for you ,wah-wah pedal, feedback ,and all. Not the most even recording ,and probably one of the worst sounding live recordings ,we ever did. Thanks ,Chipmonk!

WOOFER - Courier b/w In Sequins

Not much to be found on the web about this one.1992 on Decrepit Vinyl Records ,with artwork by Savage Pencil (Edward Pouncey ,he of the first wave UK punk band ,The Art Attacks!). Sounding almost Butthole Surfer-ish ,with distorto-vocals and plodding bass lines. Just kinda weird in a good way.Great comments on the record label ,download and see!

ONE FELL SWOOP - Tales Of Desperate Survivors On The Edge Of Reality

A short 5-song e.p. ,due to the recording device fucking up on us ,but then turned into our recording device for the slowest band ever ,Quaalude! This really does contain what the title implies, songs that tell of extremely desperate people ,in survival situations.Shane Carwile plays trumpet(!!?!!) on much of this ,and Billy Drake and Sean Sommers also play and sing on thease tracks.Ed ,Joel ,and Chipmonk ,just keep the music flowing ,and spewing lyrics about characters we know ,like, Pukeboy & Subhuman ,Jimmy Cochran ,and riders of the Special Olympics Bus ,amongst others. There is only one more studio recording before the tapes go to live gig recordings. Cover painting by John Wilford. Recorded 1/14/1992 ,20 years ago today!!

ONE FELL SWOOP - Shake My Claw,Suzy Fink

The title has to do with a girl that had a claw hand.Ed,Joel, and Chipmonk were once again graced with Billy Drake's prescence ,as well as Shane Carwile ,Sean Sommers,Dave (antelope leaps?) ,and it sounds as if Katie Ball stops by ,and possibly Kristy and Zolan. Recorded in Joel's room at Cat Machine House 1/11/1992 ,straight to boombox! At some point near the end of this recording ,our recording device began going south. You can actually hear the tape slowing down and making sense of the closing number "I Have Lost All Of My Motor Skills". I think we recorded the band Quaalude(slowest band in history! found on this blog!) on the same recorder ,that day or the next ,after it was acting up.Also of note that day ,some workers were beating on Gramp's roof, and you can hear it on the tracks ,"Beat On The Roof" , "Arty Party" ,and "Crazy Ass White Boys" . The first half of this tape is 6 songs ,all college rock and indie-punk alt-rock stuff.I also must have had the mohawk up on this day as I act and sound like a barnyard bird on ,"Rooster" ,an act I would pull out from time to time ,when the fin was up! This is a really good and strange one. Dig it . And Suzy ,if you're out there ,I don't know you ,but sorry 'bout that album title!

BIG SATAN INC. - Tap And Die b/w Scarey Feet

From the Seattle grunge scene of 1987 -1992 ,this is from '92. Metal-soaked grunge riffs ,that will pound your head in! This is on Meat Records ,and the band is now kaput ,I suppose? The kind of shit Billy and Shane would be onto ,if they had heard it back then (or ,maybe now ,who knows?)

UNCUT 13

The vinyl record destroyin fool,is back with another release from Feb.of 1992.Some new records (like a trip back to the pop radio top twenty of the 80's)were ruined for this recording, and include such artists as:The Bee-Gees,Village People,Lionel Ritchie,Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers,Dolly Parton,Michael Jackson,Culture Club,Greg Kihn,Michael Sembello, and more.Kung Fu Fighting,is used here,as well as some,Burl Ives,Tijuana Brass,Roy Smeck, and Connie Francis. The second file, which comprises side two of the tape,is all Madonna songs, from the first 3 or 4 albums.A break-up with a girlfriend, forced my hand to mutilate her Madonna records, and play them back for you, here.Lock grooves,scratch,hot-wheel track method, and other techniques are used,to give a unique take on tunes you probably would never listen to in the real world, but given the Uncut treatment, this is pure gold.Madonna lovers and haters will both enjoy this eclectic take on the pop icon.Only one more Uncut album is left in the series,I may not post it till' next year sometime, unless i get some kinda crazy request from an Uncut fan,who may need to complete his full collection of the Uncut canon.Till next time, freak your pea-brains on this !! P.S. there is a great unused photo from Madonna's first nude modeling job, that you will never see anywhere but here,in the zip.You have never seen Madonna like this before,I would have used it for the artwork, but it would have been too pornographic, even for this blog!Check that out, even if you don't like the music!

THE SPOTNICK CANDY

A lo-fi poppy Japanese duo of a girl and boy.I think they may want to be Beat Happening,or some band like that.Track 4,"Yeah!",is where I got the idea for "She Loves The Martians",a classic Buzz Workshop song.Pretty neat,on Time Bomb Records 1992.

The second release on Burrito Records was this fine comp.following up on Destroy Records comp.,"We Can't Help It If We're From Florida, from 1983.This is from 1992,and has some winners on it.Slap Of Reality offers up what sounds like it could be a Dag Nasty out-take.Roach Motel, and Chickenhead make appearances,as well as 5 other bands.Maggot Sandwich has 2 songs, one is 10 seconds long, the other is five seconds long.and a short one ends it all with Milk and Cookies.Put this in the time capsule,it's a piece of punk rock history!

LIL' SHAVERS- 2 bits

this was recorded after a one fell swoop session ,with me,chipmunk, sean sommers,t.j.,and shannon.quite noisy, kinda heavy metallish, shannon does most of the singing, sounding sexy.she fakes an orgasm on here, and sean does some hilarious vocals.hard to say what this is,weird alt-punk,or acid-punk,it's out there.try to listen to this!the last track is from the aforementioned ofs session(titled, nubiles galore,i wonder why?),with joel,of course, and shannon on vox.t.j. and shannon were about 15-16 when this was recorded, and ofs were a bunch of perverted 20 somethings.from joel's room at cat machine house from 1992.
