Budget Guest Room Reveal ~ Inspired by Williams Sonoma

You guys know I LOVE designing anything, but to get to work on a project with one
of your dearest friends (who happens to be a great designer) is icing on the cake!
I first mentioned this Guest Room project in this post back in May, she was stuck and
asked me to help her pull it together, on a budget, of course! It's actually been finished
for quite awhile and I finally had a chance to take photos today.
We're so happy with the look we were able to achieve using DIYs, Craigslist, :)
IKEA, Homegoods, Walmart, Hobby Lobby and Target.

 WILLIAMS SONOMA INSPIRATION ROOM

BEFORE

AFTER

We decided to bring in a little dose of glam to keep it from looking too masculine.
The crystal chandelier was the perfect addition and making it even more perfect, it was
free from a family member that moved to a new home, and lucky us, it wasn't their style.
We chose my all-time favorite Walmart Upholstered Headboard that I used in
Great quality for the $129 price tag!

We're using a pair of antique tables I scored on Craigslist for $50 each,
as nightstands. They have beautiful burled wood, leather tops and cute little casters.
The open style is great for the small room.

A modern marbled vase, and ornate mirrored tray in contrasting styles were fun
finds at Homegoods, my go-to place for accessories. A pretty monogram carafe
is a nice touch for guests vs a plastic water bottle. :)

We had a DIY day and knocked out several projects:
The IKEA Hack Sconces, we totally copied from one of my genius blogging
besties, Lisa @ Shine Your Light. We followed her awesome tutorial and loved the
budget friendly price of about $20 each!
The Gallery Wall using 24 - (5" x 7") $5 IKEA frames, just swish a little
scribble of paint on white computer paper, and you've got it.
We trimmed IKEA Ritva drapes in jute trim from Hobby Lobby for great texture and
custom detail.

And, made a simple tailored no sew bedskirt, again from my same talented friend above!

This vintage tufted cane chair was another Craigslist score, and the oversized
IKEA canvas (78" x 55') we stole from her Master bedroom.

She's had this rustic trunk for years, we added the large full length mirror and convenient
hooks for guests. All of her woodwork and interior doors are painted black, if you missed
the post where I shared her home tour a couple years ago you can see it here,

We thought we deserved a splurge given our savvy shopping and DIYing, and had the
two camel colored pillows custom made, they were worth every penny. The shaggy
textured pillow is Target and white bedding is from Homegoods.

Thanks so much for reading friends, hope you all enjoyed the reveal!

One Room Challenge - Another Craigslist Bedroom Reveal

Woo hoo, the day we've been waiting for!!
First, I just want you all to know how thankful I am for you! It's so wonderful that I
have the opportunity to do what I love and your support and friendship and the fact
that you read my little blog is truly icing on the cake. :)

A heartfelt thank you to Linda @ Calling It Home, the brilliant creator behind the
One Room Challenge - I love the energy and excitement it creates in the blogging
community and  the motivation to finish a room and give it your all.

If you'd like to start from the beginning:
Week 3 - Fabric, Chairs & More Craigslist here
Week 4 - DIYs
Week 5 - Lamps, Ceiling

Without further ado - the reveal of my client's Master Bedroom:

My clients wanted a neutral background with pops of color, a mix of styles, and
wanted to keep their dark four poster bed and dresser. I had so much fun scouring
Craigslist for them, including DIYs and budget friendly sources (Ikea, Target,
World Market) to create a unique room. Items from our generous sponsors,
Arhaus,  MintedLoom Decor and Wayfair brought it all together.

Next week I'll share sources and more details on our room.
Today, I know you want the pretty pictures! :)

We gave the room a modern backdrop with fresh white paint, and used high gloss
enamel finish on the four poster bed and Ikea nightstand hack (details to come).
The large room with high ceilings was perfect for over size statement artwork,
we found at Minted

BEFORE

#1 Craigslist steal was a zebra hide, I was beside myself to see it pop up. The tufted
chairs were just like their inspiration photo, but were discontinued, awesome World
Market employees went out of their way to get a pair to us. The black industrial cage
light is a nice contrast against the light panels (thank you Loom Decor!) in the corner,
and it along with the moody abstract (thank you Minted!) add an edge to the softness
 of the seating area.

#2 Thrift store find were vintage Florentine nesting tables.

BEFORE
This dresser was made by my client's dad years ago and they'd never put any finish on
it. We saw a beautiful piece at Anthropologie but it was $$$ and was our inspiration for
this DIY weathered gray finish (details to come).

#3 Craigslist score a beautiful bamboo mirror we love.
#4 Craigslist score, the dresser!!
They had wanted to keep the old dresser but the style and scale weren't the best, I
found the new dresser with beautiful hardware and a lower profile - they were able to
sell the old one for the price of the new and it was a wash. Win - win!!
#5 Craigslist score - the curvy cane back chair with a citron velvet tufted seat, It worked
perfectly with all the straight lines of the dresser, art, lamp and mirror.

 More beautiful artwork from Minted!

Our crisp white duvet with modern embroidery detail is from Wayfair.

We chose Target benches for the end of the bed and reupholstered with a shaggy fur
to add some great texture and a bit of whimsy.
The nightstands are Ikea hacks (more to come). We started with a simple box style and
updated the finish, base, hardware and added a nailhead detail.
Speaking of nailhead did you notice our ceiling!!!!! Go ahead scroll back up. :)

These gorgeous lamps are from Arhaus (thank you, generous sponsor!) we we're thrilled
to find them when I visited. The top quality and beautiful details are unmatched. The black
shades give balance to that side of the room.

And, last but not least our nailhead ceiling! We knew we wanted to give their beautiful
tray ceiling an interesting detail and this random geometric was a cool addition that
we all loved. More details next week!

Thank you so much to my wonderful clients for allowing me to share their home
with all of you and for enduring the six week challenge! They were there pounding in
nailheads long after I'd left at the end of a day, and worked so hard on every project
along the way. You guys are truly the best!

living room refresh

Who knew a couple innocent little Craigslist purchases would create such a
staggering domino effect! I've been arranging and re-arranging furniture for the past
two months, hauling it downstairs and back up and have come to the realization that
clearly we need a bigger house! :)
I thought I'd share a few of the changes to our living room so far.

Remember when these vintage chairs popped up on Craigslist, and I couldn't resist them?
I always knew a pair of chairs would fit perfectly in our bay window, and they did, but it
was the beginning of a domino effect I didn't see coming! The sofa had always been there
and the only other option for it was against the wall - I wasn't sure what I'd think, but I'm
loving the new look after placing the mirror from the dining room above it and creating
 an eclectic gallery wall.

I love how the bay windows are more visible without the sofa obstructing the view, and
the comfy down cushioned chairs tuck into the space and create the best reading nook.

As much as I loved the bold floral pattern I was a little skeptical if it would mix with
what I had. You guys know I don't stray far from my neutral base so I can change things
up on a whim. Well, it all came together and the only new items I bought were the citron
ikat pillow and the artwork on the bottom right.
Remember the day I showed you how to shop Goodwill, both were finds from that
outing, the coral chevron ikat pillow was a steal from there last year that inspired
  my family room spiff up.

(sorry about some of these bad pics, my weather app didn't forecast clouds till later)

I dug out this DIY Rope Vase I made a couple years ago for my Cinco de Mayo party
centerpiece. I love the texture and the casual vibe keeps some of the traditional pieces
 from looking too stuffy.

The other irresistible find that added to the chaos was this HUGE ornate mirror,
originally finished in a dark stain giving it a heavy appearance. I lightened it up
with two coats of Gold Rub 'n Buff, applying with a toothbrush so it still had some
variation in color vs a solid painted look. See below.
My  DIY framed batik gallery wall that was here is piled in the dining room in the process
of being re-hung, the good news is it gives the room a fun unexpected jolt of color, looks
great with the chairs, and ties everything together without being matchy!

You can see the finish on the mirror here, I'm still tweaking it, I think it needs a few
more brighter highlights throughout.
The shelf and greenery hide our thermostat. :) It worked before, but now looks a bit off,
the thought of an ugly thermostat right there in the middle of the wall gives me hives!

Progress should be picking up over here after the One Room Challenge is over in
just two short weeks! I'm thinking of having a sale and parting with a few
Craigslist treasures ~ you'll be the first to know!

fresh modern teen girl's room

I can't tell you how much I delighted in doing this pink girly room, being a boy
mom has its advantages, :) but I miss out on this kind of fun. I got giddy when
the chance to help out with a sweet girl's room presented itself. She has a great eye
and flair for design, and was involved in all the choices for her new room.

BEFORE:
This isn't a true before, we'd already moved the bed when I took photos,
it was parallel to, and pushed against the light green wall.

AFTER:
Her mom (aka my One Room Challenge friend) painted a bamboo desk we scored
on Craigslist, and added new brass hardware. We incorporated my favorite Ikea
work lamp and a ghost chair to create a stylish mix .

BEFORE:
Again, we were already trying some new purchases (mirror and lamps) when I
took these photos.

By removing the foot board we gave the space a more open feel, and the old
bed an updated look.

Do you guys remember my post last year when this bamboo dresser was tossed
to the curb in front of our elementary school? I had no where for it, but Sarah loved
it, and thought it looked too formal for her room in it's original state. We were
hesitant to paint it, but given the top was in really bad shape we opted for bright pink,
and found the hardware at our local Re-Store for $1.50 each.

She wanted a glam lucite lamp, we found the perfect one at Homegoods and added
the Greek key trim for a pop of color.
We included sheer curtain panels with a faint curved pattern to soften the straight lines
of the windows, bookcases and desk.

She's quite the artist, and we wanted to use pieces she'd done for a small gallery
wall above her bed. She requested it not be too busy, we kept a clean, simple feel
by using white frames and mats and limiting the colors.

We included her original elephant drawing and cherry blossom painting.

She and her mom were inspired by the whimsical illustrations on this journal
(with no copyright or any information on it all) and had it copied to frame.

We lined the backs of her two white bookcases, flanking the windows, with
green paper in a subtle pattern.

We love the overall fresh and modern atmosphere with a little pizzazz!

Thank you so much for letting me share your home,
sweet friends!
