modmood/retro consignment...

Hope you all enjoyed the long weekend,
as usual we packed in a lot of fun with friends, family and, of course, food!
Last week a friend and I went to an open house a unique local store,

modmood/RETRO Consignment
modmood features contemporary and designer furniture, lighting, area rugs, art, and other cutting edge
furnishings. RETRO Consignment caters to mid-century enthusiasts, vintage collectors and everyone
looking for unusual and fun americana. It is the place to shop for and consign pieces.
7700 W. 44th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO

I was completely smitten with this large oval storage ottoman by Norwalk,
the bold pink and orange print was lively and modern yet the style felt classic.

It had been awhile since I'd seen pieces from Norwalk Furniture,
I was impressed with their furniture and fabric lines available through modmood.

Love these colors and textures...

Lots of painted furniture in bright, vibrant hues...

Is it me, or do some of these colors look awfully close to mauve....
Great peacock pillow.

A collection of their vintage pieces are in the back in an old greenhouse.
HUGE lamps...

I immediately thought of my friends Linda and Jennifer when I saw these...
$40 for the pair.

I tried to talk my friend into this aged brass, beauty...

Aqua leather with nail head trim...fabulous...

Stop by if you're local, it's a fun outing!

Today I'm working on a diy project ~ yard art ~ to be revealed this week! :)

winter weekend & wine tasting results you don't want to miss...

Hey everyone, hope you all enjoyed the long weekend, we're getting back to reality
after a few days of playing in the gorgeous Colorado mountains with friends.
Remember this fun party, we wrote what we loved about the birthday girl on my
chalkboard, and one of them included her 'ski house in Winter Park.' We hung there for
the past few days with dear friends and their families. Since I have a pile of laundry, an
empty refrigerator, and and my ORC project to work on for tomorrow's post (yikes) I'm
keeping it short today with some pictures of our weekend fun.

Setting up for a special Birthday Girl...

Sledding...Mom's won't be outdone by the kids...

Trying to make our sweet friend feel old with a little inferno... :)

An exciting day on the slopes...one kiddo had to return to the house with a tummy bug,
and one broke her arm! These two cute girls, and expert skiers, survived all day...

Hot tub and a blind wine tasting was in order after enduring that...

We all chose our Top 2  -  The least expensive bottle beat out the most expensive!
We don't claim to be connoisseurs, but 5 out of 8 voted the $6 Malbec as their #1 pick.

#1 -  Marcus James Malbec -  $6
#2 - Tignanello 2008 - $100

Can't live without our electronics...

Breakfast before heading home...

A perfect weekend...friends, food, wine, and fresh Colorado mountain air.
Life is good!

denver botanic gardens

Yesterday I spent the morning strolling through the Denver Botanic Gardens
with my bff, we both grew up here, but she had never been.
It was a free day, (see end of post for upcoming free days)
so we arrived when it opened at 9am,
hoping to beat the crowd and the heat...our plan worked!

I couldn't have staged it better, a Denverite donning cowboy boots in the summer!

The gardens are just east of downtown and several high rises surround the area.

We loved this amazing path - that's some cool texture!

These camo-like trees are Lacebark Pines.
(Looks like a creative diy type went a little overboard with some paint.)

This bank of white blossoms was a favorite of mine,
but we couldn't find any identification - does anyone know what it is?

Here's a closeup.

The Japanese Garden's meticulously manicured grounds were refreshing
after the more carefree  and unstructured plantings.

We stopped to chat with this gardener, she was trimming the shrubs to keep with a traditional
mounded shape, reminiscent of boulders, versus a round or muffin top shape.

A fun stop was a 'Haiku Tree,' passersby were encouraged to jot down a Haiku and
attach it to the potted tree.

Browsing at The Shop on the way out was a nice escape from the heat.

Necklaces and earrings hung from an old window frame and chandelier.

The light silk and chiffon scarves caught our attention and
we thought these bright felted bags would add a cute punch to a winter outfit.

Does your city have a Botanic Garden?
It's always on my list when vacationing in a new city.

A perfect summer evening....a picnic while attending one of their Summer Concerts.
