Eclectic Christmas Home Tour 2017

Thanks so much for stopping by to check out my tour friends, and welcome if you're
new to Simple Details! A huge thank you to
Jenny @ Evolution of Style and Amy & Christy @ 11 Magnolia Lane
for rounding up a wonderful group of bloggers to share their Christmas decor for the
 12 Days of Holiday Homes!

Over the past couple years I've embraced the 'less is more' philosophy and ditched all the
bins of stuff in favor of using greenery from our yard. It's a great motivator to be creative
and rearrange all of my Craigslist finds for a new look. I've been holding out on you,
I have a couple new pieces! :) If you're not familiar, everything in my living room and
dining room are Craigslist or thrifting finds.

Come take a peek and see how I've changed it up from last year's tour, it's a total
different vibe and color scheme, but you'll no doubt recognize some of the pieces.

Living Room

I decided to bring out all of my blue and white pottery and pair it with black, white
 and pops of chartreuse.

I love the tiny boxwood from the big box garden centers. They're a steal on sale and
easy to trim up for a topiary look. The NOEL pillow was a gift a few years ago, I
love it, and it always makes an appearance, as does my DIY Pottery Barn knock

Here's a tease of my newest Craigslist score - can you even believe I bought a chair?!

Before I tell you about the chairs, how fun is this whimsical guy?
He was a 'meant to be' find because I used the same print for invitations to my
Annual Girlfriend Favorite Things party coming up on Tuesday. I promise to fill
you in on all the details and favorite things! The abstract above was a quick diy
to pull the blue into my gallery wall.

Oh my goodness, I didn't buy one, I bought two!!! I know I have a problem, but seriously
I would have been crazier not to buy them, they were $25 each! They're unique, tall,
amazing quality and comfortable! If you happen to be new to Simple Details, it's a little
joke ~ I have a LOT of chairs!

I wanted to keep the decor to a minimum because I did a big glam-up job
on my oversized mirror. It would be easy to do with any mirror, I used beads,
pearls, ornaments and crystals that I had for tree decorations.

Check out that chair and don't pay attention to my sad paperwhites!
This is the first year ever they haven't gone gangbusters. I think I planted thirteen.
The chair backs are 48" high, kind of cool!
I like the mix of chippy old columns and urns with the modern geometric pattern.

Dining Room

Another quick DIY abstract, with layered artwork in front. I have a canvas I just
keep re-painting when I want to change up colors. No tutorial needed, ha!

One of my favorite decor items this year is the Three Cedars fresh wreath from
Lynch Creek Farms. It adds a gorgeous classic style to my dining room, and smells amazing,
can you believe how full and lush it is. Their finished wreaths are 26" and have a beautiful
three dimensional style. I think they'd make a wonderful gift!
Thank you to Lynch Creek Farms for generously sponsoring our holiday tours!

Family Room

Since our tree is in the family room, I keep the rest simple, our cozy fur throw and fur
trimmed stockings are pretty touches. More blue and white pottery to tie the rooms
 together.

My favorite girl, Rio for her annual Christmas photo. :)

Hope you all enjoyed the tour, thanks so much for stopping by!
Wishing you a wonderful season and the Merriest Christmas!

I'm lucky to get to share the day with my blogging bestie,
Lisa @ Shine Your Light is sharing her beautiful tour today, too.
It's one you won't want to miss!
My jaw always drops when I see her classic New England Christmas porch!

Project Design - Five Takes on Holiday Gift Wrap

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your families!
I'm thrilled to be teaming up with a few of my favorite bloggers to share our holiday gift
wrap ideas. I love changing up my wrap from year to year, a pretty but simple look that
doesn't complete with the tree and other Christmas decor is my favorite. It's super easy to
add a little dose of the same elements I use for wrapping to my decor to help the keep the
look cohesive and achieve a nice flow from room to room.
Here are a few tips to create the look:

Use neutral color wrapping paper
Use neutral patterned boxes and metallic tin boxes
Change color of ribbon from year to year, choose different textured ribbon
Use the same ribbon to help decor flow from room to room
Add greenery from your yard to embellish your gift

You can't go wrong choosing a sheer texture, and if it has pretty detail, all the better.
Costco is a great source for sheer ribbon, and a steal if you catch the end of season sale.
Notice the printed box below right, I've had it for several years and it gets put under the
 tree every year.

I used the green leopard ribbon and sprig of greenery on the backs of my dining chairs
to carry the color/pattern into that room.

Last year I had painted my living room blush and used blush satin ribbon on my
gifts to tie the look together.

Notice the black and white patterned box above, the pattern added a little pizazz to plain
 white wrap.

Pine sprigs on the gifts, chair backs and brass container below and the blush
satin ribbon on the wreath give everything a cohesive look.

This leopard & plaid pairing is an oldie but goodie. There is the patterned box
again, and simple silver tins - I think they originally held chocolates. Save any
pretty boxes you receive during the year and simply add ribbon ~ not everything
has to be wrapped in paper.

I coordinated the bow on the wreath in the next room to easily create a pretty flow.

It's Time to Plant Paperwhites

Hi friends ~ this is my annual reminder to let you know it's time to start
thinking about planting your paperwhite bulbs. I planted mine yesterday, and if
you're hoping to use these beautiful blooms in your Christmas decor or give as a gift
you'll want to get them started in the next week or so.
They're super easy to force, I shared directions here

I bought mine at a local garden center (O'Toole's) they sell them loose for $1 each.
In the past I've also found them at Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Target and
Ace Hardware, they're usually sold in a bag of eight, and sometimes pre-planted in
a pot. I like the option of choosing my own planter, the possibilities are endless.

Here's some pretty inspiration for you:

I've shared fun ideas for planting in the past,
if you need more inspiration you can check them out here and here.
