Spring & Easter Table Setting

Happy Monday, peeps! :)
I was chatting with a friend and she mentioned that she wished bloggers would
share their entertaining tips, tables settings and recipes for holidays in time for people
to be able to take advantage of them. Yikes, I know I've been guilty of rushing to get
things put together and posting them after the fact.
I have good news and bad news.
The good...I put together this cheerful Easter table setting to share with you.
The bad...it ends up we're not hosting Easter this year.
Which probably isn't a bad thing after all since I still have my unfinished buffet project
in the dining room. And, that also explains why you only see close ups of the table. :)

The inspiration was this indigo tablecloth I found at Goodwill. Remember when I showed
you my trash to treasure scores. I love the raised white embroidery and block print style. I
layered a black and white striped runner I had from my nephew's wedding last summer.
I included my DIY candelabra for fun!

Simple grocery store lilies and wheat grass I planted add lots of color and texture.

I love to collect small vases to sit at individual place settings. Yay for spring,
I finally have a few sprigs of greenery and little flowers to cut. For a variety of
heights I used a glass cake plate to display wheat grass planted in inexpensive
 terra cotta pots, painted gold.

Aren't those little peeps poking their heads out of the cracked shells cute? :)
Just crack open a few eggs, wash them and let dry and set the peep inside.

Tomorrow I'm sharing our hands down all-time favorite dish
for Easter Brunch. I don't know anyone else who makes it and
it's sinfully delish!

to paint or not?

Thank you so much for all your sweet comments on the DIY Candelabra I shared with you.
My dilemma is whether or not to paint it, I love the warm neutral wood, but
oh my, these are gorgeous and I always fall for anything with a high gloss finish.
Don't they look like pieces of artwork?!

And then I go back to the beautiful natural wood.

And, mine...

What do you think?

White, black, navy?
I could always repaint if I get tired of one color,
BUT
once I paint there's no going back!

DIY Four Arm Candelabra

Happy Monday, friends!
You guys know one of my favorite things to do is to figure out a way to DIY a high-end
product that is out of my budget and share it with those of you in the same boat. I love
my new Four Arm Candelabra, if you can squeeze glue out of a bottle and drive
to your local Ace Hardware you've got the skills, and can have one too!

I'd seen these gorgeous candelabras here and there, but this Dining Al Fresco post by
Mandy @ Waiting on Martha last summer was the one that made me take notice, and
search them out. Sadly, they were $600 each, waaaay out of my candelabra budget!

When I started out I had no idea that I would be able to replicate it this closely,
I was just hoping for the general idea. Between pieces from Home Depot, Lowes and
Hobby Lobby it came together and is the exact dimensions of the original

SUPPLIES & HOW TO:

Cost: Just under $50 including labor

These are the pieces I used, but it's not necessary to use the exact styles if you can't
find them.
However, I was way more excited than anyone should be when I spied the the
pieces with the carved rings - you see those on the original, right? So you might
want to hunt high and low for those if you're that type. :)

The pieces on the bottom right (use four) are glued on top of the pieces top left to create
 the candle holders.

The base, bun feet and top finial (two to a pkg, use one).

9" traditional leg

Before beginning I took a dowel, a bun foot and four decorative candle holder pieces
to Ace Hardware for them to align the arms and drill the holes.
ABSOLUTELY worth $10!
My finished arms are 16" from outside edge to outside edge.
(I had a dowel, but you'll need to add it to your supply list - 1/2" x 32")

This is what you'll get back from the helpful hardware man!
All pieces fit together very snug and secure.

Begin assembly:

I adhered the decorative wood pieces with Gorilla Glue, following the
manufacturer's instructions.Several of my pieces had double threaded screws in them,
I removed them with pliers before beginning. I left it on the bun foot above since the
rings below had a hole in the center. If the glue was visible I used a toothpick to clean it
up before it dried completely. After gluing I held the pieces together firmly for
several minutes before moving on to the next piece.

Apparently I didn't think you needed any more photos after that or I was
so excited to see it come together I blasted through it!
Atop the 9" traditional leg is a decorative piece from Hobby Lobby
(see above, my supply list shows two, but I ended up only using one)
then the arms and top finial from Lowes (see above).

To keep my candles from leaning I put rubber bands around the bottom to help
them fit tightly in the candle holder.

WARNING - DISCLAIMER:
This is wood, it will catch on fire and burn your house down!!!
The Hobby Lobby packaging indicates the wood candle holders are not to be used with
 candles, as in lit candles!

So, there's more to these pretty little candelabras, they're available in
a variety of painted colors ~ indecision ~ to paint or not to paint??

Tune in tomorrow for more...
