My Five Favorites - Displaying DIY Artwork

Hey friends, hope you enjoyed a fabulous long weekend!
I'm sure I'll have my days mixed up all week, but I'm not complaining, only
a few days till Friday!
This month we're focusing on Art for My Five Favorites, I'm sharing my favorite
ways to display art and it so happens most of it is DIY. I'm always changing my
pieces around moving them from room to room, and mixing it up. It's such an easy way
to give your space a new look. I'm anxious to see what my friends are sharing,
be sure to check them out, too.

Jennifer @ Dimples & Tangles

I'm thrilled to introduce our talented guest this month ~ Jennifer @ The Chronicles of Home.
She has a crazy, amazing range of skills and isn't a light weight DIYer! She's not intimidated
by power tools, and is just as comfortable whipping up a gourmet meal in her beautiful
kitchen she renovated!

The Chronicles of Home

Let's check out my favorites:

#1
Grid Focal Point
These inexpensive DIY Abstracts were created as a focal point for the large space
above a headboard. You can see them in this Budget Guest Room Reveal.
We used 24 (5x7) gold IKEA frames, $5 each, and simply swished a scribble of paint on
 computer paper and framed them.

#2
Low Placement on Wall
I love the unique look of artwork placed lower on the wall. The French settee and
global prints are a fun contrast of styles, too. This is another budget friendly and
colorful DIY, I Framed Batik Fabric from Joanns. The pattern and color possibilities
are endless, these frames were a score from a thrift store, but IKEA sells similar in a
variety of sizes and very reasonably priced.

#3
Layered
Vignettes with layered artwork always draw me in, it gives the room a collected feel
and adds another level of interest. Although the black and white artwork looks like the
popular abstracts, it's simply another framed piece of fabric.

#4
Hanging on a Bookcase
I tried my hand at a DIY abstract for our Summer Home Tour, I knew I wanted a larger
statement piece to help my blue and white color scheme flow from room to room.
I always hang artwork on the front of my bookcase, and love the versatility of changing
it out whenever I change up the decor.
(Sorry, I couldn't begin to tell you how I created the abstract, it looks nothing close to what I was going for!)

#5
Eclectic Gallery Wall
I always keep my eyes open for artwork when I'm thrifting, and love to mix my finds
with framed DIY abstract scribbles, and one of my favorite ornate gold mirrors.
I buy what I love and it works ~ nothing matchy or pre-planned.
I created this collection for our Spring Home Tour.

Our Summer Home Tour 2016

Happy Summer Friends!
Welcome if you're stopping by from Christy's lovely tour at  Our Southern Home, also
a huge thank you to sweet Marty @ A Stroll Thru Life for putting together the fun tours!

If you're new here I share our 1938 cottage style home in Denver with
Mr. Simple, our teenage son, and our spoiled fur babies! Come on in and I'll show you
what I've been up to getting our home spiffed up for summer.

Since I changed things up for my Spring Home Tour at the end of March, and I was
still loving all my new blue pillows...are you sitting down....I wanted to keep them
through summer! Crazy, I know! Haha!
Don't worry, I made some other changes to go with them!

Living Room

This striped chair is my newest Craigslist find...are you still sitting down...$50!
Despite my overflowing collection of chairs it was too fun to pass up!

If you've forgotten here are my old blue pillows :) and a pair of bamboo chairs
from my stash in the basement. I like the airy summer vibe.

Dining Room

Much to my surprise, I've grown fond of the lively green walls in our dining room.
It feels fresh for summer, and a little daring.  My friend and I found a pair of huge
brass lamps at an antique store one day and shared them. My sweet client gave me a
foo dog for my collection (of two, so far).

Family Room

I added the large canvas abstract to the family room to tie in with the blues
throughout. I tried my hand at a DIY, it looks nothing like what I was going for, but
I'm happy with it after a lot of tweaking.

Kitchen

My favorite update is new slipcovers I made for my barstools. I thought taking the old
ones apart and copying the pattern would be a no-brainer. Sewing them back together
put my skills to the test, but I love them now that I'm finished!

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by my tour friends!
I'll be sharing our outdoor spaces soon, with some new Craigslist finds.
Up next on the tour is Laura @ Decor to Adore, be sure to stop by and visit.

Steal These Designer's Ideas for Displaying Artwork

Happy Friday friends!
I've been working on an artwork project for a client, we've finally come up with
a creative solution to a common problem that I can't wait to share with you...coming soon!
Of course I had to do my research on Pinterest, and in doing so I came across
several unique ideas I loved and thought you would too.

It's all about doing something unexpected.

Weight your art at the bottom of the frame instead of the top, which is typical.
Use an oversized mat...really oversized mat.

Andrew Brown - Veranda

Choose an unpredictable placement on the wall.

Krista Ewart/Ruthie Sommers
Photography - Douglas Friedman for House Beautiful

Display eclectic pieces from floor to ceiling, include an unusual shape frame.

Design & Photograpy Peter Fehrentz

Frame and paint a section of wall as a background for artwork.

Albert Hadley

Use a collection of small frames for interest.

 turquoisetulipsandbliss.blogspot.com

Display around furniture in an uncommon, asymmetrical arrangement.

Hope you all have a wonderful three day weekend!

Budget Guest Room Reveal ~ Inspired by Williams Sonoma

You guys know I LOVE designing anything, but to get to work on a project with one
of your dearest friends (who happens to be a great designer) is icing on the cake!
I first mentioned this Guest Room project in this post back in May, she was stuck and
asked me to help her pull it together, on a budget, of course! It's actually been finished
for quite awhile and I finally had a chance to take photos today.
We're so happy with the look we were able to achieve using DIYs, Craigslist, :)
IKEA, Homegoods, Walmart, Hobby Lobby and Target.

 WILLIAMS SONOMA INSPIRATION ROOM

BEFORE

AFTER

We decided to bring in a little dose of glam to keep it from looking too masculine.
The crystal chandelier was the perfect addition and making it even more perfect, it was
free from a family member that moved to a new home, and lucky us, it wasn't their style.
We chose my all-time favorite Walmart Upholstered Headboard that I used in
Great quality for the $129 price tag!

We're using a pair of antique tables I scored on Craigslist for $50 each,
as nightstands. They have beautiful burled wood, leather tops and cute little casters.
The open style is great for the small room.

A modern marbled vase, and ornate mirrored tray in contrasting styles were fun
finds at Homegoods, my go-to place for accessories. A pretty monogram carafe
is a nice touch for guests vs a plastic water bottle. :)

We had a DIY day and knocked out several projects:
The IKEA Hack Sconces, we totally copied from one of my genius blogging
besties, Lisa @ Shine Your Light. We followed her awesome tutorial and loved the
budget friendly price of about $20 each!
The Gallery Wall using 24 - (5" x 7") $5 IKEA frames, just swish a little
scribble of paint on white computer paper, and you've got it.
We trimmed IKEA Ritva drapes in jute trim from Hobby Lobby for great texture and
custom detail.

And, made a simple tailored no sew bedskirt, again from my same talented friend above!

This vintage tufted cane chair was another Craigslist score, and the oversized
IKEA canvas (78" x 55') we stole from her Master bedroom.

She's had this rustic trunk for years, we added the large full length mirror and convenient
hooks for guests. All of her woodwork and interior doors are painted black, if you missed
the post where I shared her home tour a couple years ago you can see it here,

We thought we deserved a splurge given our savvy shopping and DIYing, and had the
two camel colored pillows custom made, they were worth every penny. The shaggy
textured pillow is Target and white bedding is from Homegoods.

Thanks so much for reading friends, hope you all enjoyed the reveal!
