Summer Mini Book by Karine

Mini Album Happy!

This is my very latest mini book. I will present it after the summer holidays!
It is 100% handmade and reminds us of summer, holidays, nature and outdoors strolls! We will learn how to create our book from A to Z with the help of die cuts, folding techniques and we will play with colours. This is a technical and magical mini book where the focus is on Brushos!

Supply list:

Papers: Crate Paper
Cardstock, Alphabets: American Crafts
Stickers: Pebbles
Chipboards: Heidi Swapp
Embellishments: Ephéméria
Others: Brushos

Dies:

650515 :  Sizzix Big Shot Plus Starter Kit
660320 :  Sizzix Precision Base Plate for Intricate Thinlits Dies
660815  Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 3PK- Woodland Leaves
660804  Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 3PK- Happiness Phrases
659573 :  Sizzix Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die- Spring Grinery

After having created a textured white cover, I used the leftover paper scraps to cut some embellishments with the Big Shot Plus.

I put the emphasis on leaves and words with summer connotations such as Hello Sunshine so as to match my album theme.

I used my precision base plate to cut the thinner shapes. I can’t stop using it at the moment! It is really perfect to cut thin dies. This is a must-have, believe me!

The words Hello & Sunshine will stay as is color-speaking (white) and will be glued with liquid glue. I like the textured effect that brings material in a soft way.

The other die cuts (foliage etc…) are colored in green with the help of Brushos (but spray inks will do too). Let them dry then glue them as you will do with classic embellishments.

I also cut and inserted a mini leave from the Big Shot Plus kit.

Here are some images and zooms of the album!

Have a lovely day,

Karine

Mini Album Happy !

Papiers : Crate Paper
Cardstock, Alphabets : American Crafts
Stickers : Pebbles
Chipboards : Heidi Swapp
Embellissements : Ephéméria
Autres : Brushos

Dies utilisés :

650515 :  Sizzix Big Shot Plus Starter Kit
660320 :  Sizzix Precision Base Plate for Intricate Thinlits Dies
660815 :  Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 3PK- Woodland Leaves
660804 :  Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 3PK- Happiness Phrases
659573 :  Sizzix Sizzlits Decorative Strip Die- Spring Grinery

Karine

Foxhead pincushion and small bag in one.

Hi there. So happy you came to check out my Sunday project.
This week I had some fun with a recently released die from the 'Woodland creatures' collection by Debi Potter. It's a cute fox face. I used it to embellish a small bag that I will use for my sewing yarns. At first I was going to give it as a present to my god daughter but in the end I decided to make something else for her...

I used the Bigz die to diecut the pieces for the fox's head from heavy felt. The Bigz dies are wonderful for cutting almost any craft material that is a little heavier.

I stitched together two round pieces of felt to make a round purse. I left a piece open at the top.
I assembled the foxhead and stitched around the edges. I used some black floss to make the eyes and nose. Finally I added a white button so I will be able to close the bag after I put my embroidery wool inside it. -And the good thing is it doubles as a cute pincushion as well :-)

 One more close up.
I know I will use my Bigz dies with felt or other materials more often. This was great fun!!!

Thanks for taking a look.
Next Sunday I will be here again and I hope I'll see you here as well <3

Fantastic Mr. Fox

The title of this blog refers to one of Roald Dahl's fabulous collection of children's books illustrated by the genius that is Quentin Blake. I am particularly partial to children's book illustration as is my good buddy and fellow designer Debi Potter.

Debi and I trained as illustrators at the same time, in the same college where I specialised in cartoons and she specialised in children's book illustration which brings us neatly to my point.

Debi has designed a range of woodland themed dies which are just adorable so if you like Die-cutting, foxes and owls you need look no further. Luckily for us Europeans it is exclusive to our region too.

For today's post I chose the Sizzix Bigz Die - Fox Face (659910) which I have used quite a bit recently for both paper and textile based projects. I began by die-cutting the face from ivory corrugated card and some Orange patterned paper from the My Mind's Eye Collectable range. I inked the edges of the die-cut shapes and attached the corrugated card shapes in position.

Next, I employed one of my favourite paper craft cheats by using a pattern makers wheel and marker pen to create a faux stitched effect around the perimeter of the die-cut shapes. Sometimes, life's to short to pull out your sewing machine and change the bobbin! I die-cut the nose from brown card and attached it with a 3D foam pad. I used adhesive black pearls for eyes although you can die-cut them if you prefer.
I folded an 8 x 11 cm base card before trimming to my desired shape. Next, I applied Distress Ink to the edges to add definition and added my faux stitching.

I wanted to make a tail, so I die-cut the fox's cheek from orange patterned card and ivory corrugated card. I trimmed off the top of the ivory card and attached it to the orange die-cut before adding the stitching.

The next bit is all scissor work, I decided to smarten up Mr. fox by adding a collar and tie. The collar is cut from stiff ivory card and the tie from patterned paper from the Collectable range. I inked the edges and crumpled the tie before attaching both to the base card along with the assembled tail.

And here is the finished card, Quite dapper I think?
