Felt Ice Cream Keychain and Brooch

Hello there! I’m Anna from Café Creativo and I am so excited to share this project with you today!
This week I am bringing you a project that will help use the fabric and felt scraps ;)
I made these jewels textiles. I thought it would be lovely to share a tutorial to make a small last minute gift for this summer.

I die-cut the bits and pieces using the new seasonal dies from Echo Park collection.
I chose ice cream to make a Keychain and some hearts to make a Brooch.

Make a textile brooch using leftover fabric and felt, it’s so perfect for a summer t-shirt!

Here’s how you do it:
Cut out one medium heart from felt, one small heart from your fabric.
Pin and sew the two hearts together.
Glue or sew on the back a strip of fabric and a piece of lace.
Add a button, a rhinestone and a decorated pin.
If you want to make a brooch sew a brooch bar onto the back. If you are making a keychain add the ribbon loop and keyring at the top and add a second heart on the back.
Blanket stitch around the edge of the heart with a contrasting thread colour.
Your brooch or keychain is finished!

L'elenco materiali è in fondo ;)

Buon Ferragosto! ♥

Simple Circle Strings

My son, Aidan and I have had lots of fun this week making super-easy circle strings to decorate the house and tree with this Christmas. Aidan has been fascinated by the Big Shot for a while and so was delighted to get the chance to help me use it. At 7 he's too young to operate it without adult supervision but he was more than happy to just be in charge of handle turning whilst I handled the die and dealt with the fabric.

We used the Circles, 3/4in die to cut all of our circles and used 6 different coloured felts in total (as selected by Aidan).

Once we had a sufficiently large pile of felt circles they were then fed them under the presser foot of the sewing machine one at a time, sewing straight down the centre. The next circle was fed under just as the last stitch was made on the previous one so that they were chain pieced together.

I can't remember where I first saw the idea for these but I expect it was somewhere on Pinterest. They are so quick and easy to make and really effective, we made an 8ft or so string in little over half an hour from start to finish.

They make a great simple decoration and could even be used as a trimming to tie around gifts too. We might try a different shape and colours next time, little hexagons would look good. Aidan is hooked on making them and so by the start of December I'm expecting the inside our house to be webbed.

Downton dilema

Well it's only how to put the quilt together! - there's and easy way for the piecing, which is difficult to plan, or there is a difficult way to piece which is very easy to plan - still not sure which option to take - here are the options -

I can make each pinwheel complete and then lay them out to get a balance of colour and pattern - but the piecing will be complicated, or

I can stitch the shapes into triangles - but as you can see from the numbering on the pieces in each triangle that it is quite complicated - so I'm off to the sewing machine to see which method I'm going to adopt - back soon.
The decision is made - this method was quite tricky to stitch precisely although as previously discussed it's easy to plan.
This triangle method gives me a much neater result - not so many difficult half seams - so I'm going to attempt this method and hope that I can plan it well enough.
As I have about 20 different fabrics to work with I think this method will work.
My next task is to cut some more half hexagons with die -http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/658880/sizzix-bigz-die-5-half-hex and get sewing again. I'm going to cut 24 half hexagons from each fabric and see how far I get - this may just end up as a bed runner-or a single bed quilt - I'm not sure yet. I'll keep you informed as it progresses!
Next week I'm demonstrating at Alexandra Palace at the Knitting and Stitching show. I'll be on The Cotton Patch stand, I'm not sure of the number, so if you're at the show come and say hello.
Hope to see you next week.
Angela

Spool quilt

Hi! Here it´s Mercedes again in her second post. Go for it.
Do you remember the spool I did before ? Ok, here it´s what I have done , a nice coloful  and spring spool quilt with a touch of vintage.
As I said before, I sew a short white lace in the middle of the spool and now I have add  another more for the border. Really I love  the effect of this quick quilt that I have done using Sizzix dies.

Ok , take a look and see materials and directions.

Suppy List:

658324

658322

657605

656847  Sizzix Accessory - Cutting Pads, Bigz XL 25", 1 Pair

scraps of fabric in different pastel colours
White fabric
32" fabric and   batting  for backing
70 " short white lace for spools
94"  wide white  lace for the border
Gütermann White 40  cotton thread for quilting

First I sew the spool block, a total of 15 units. I told you  here . Don´t forget to add the lace in the cental block before to sew  to the top and botton of the spool .

Then, I cut  the rectangles pieces to do the outside border. Just sew them one to other  alternating different fabrics. You need to do  it for the four borders.

So , sew the  spool blocks. I did three across together changing the direction of each spool and continued adding four more rounds . Be careful with that directions. Finally you get three blooks across and five down.
Now it´s the time to add around  the 2  1 /2 " border  ( 2" finished ) with the lace. Put the lace between the top and the fabric border and sew all together. You can use pins  if you want .

Sew the previous rectangles that were  sewn together and prepare the sandwitch for the out side border.

Quilt as  you prefer. I did two different ways, one for the spool and border  and other for the back in white fabric and rectangles.

I used the same vichi fabric for the binding.

It´s great how  quick you can do this kind of quilt using the dies. Before you think you are quilting  it !!

My quilt is 29" x 40"

Hope you  like and  it can be an idea to sew these next Easter Holidays, which  I´m  already enjoying here .

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!
Love
Mercedes

¡Hola!

 Materiales :

658324

658322

657605

656847  Sizzix Accessory - Cutting Pads, Bigz XL 25", 1 Pair

Mercedes

Sew far sew good!

I woke up this morning and fancied something a bit vintage largely inspired by the  new Antique Faire range of dies and folders from Sizzix. I love this range because it is such an eclectic mash up, but they all seem to work so well together. I particularly love  the Bigz dies which come with a corresponding embossing folder, such a clever idea!

I know that many of you love both paper crafting and sewing so I thought it might be nice to combine the two

Here is a list of what I used together with my Trusty Big Shot Machine:
I also used assorted Distress Inks, Perfect Pearls metallic Powders and Gold pigment ink.

I die cut a label from blue patterned paper and placed it into the corresponding embossing folder before running through my trusty Big Shot. I then used assorted Distress Inks (Mainly browns) to age the card I followed this up with some Perfect Pearls metallic gold powder to add a vintage patina. Next, I die cut a doily from ivory card and distressed with the inks, once dry I randomly applied a sanding pad to the edges.

I die cut the Sewing machine from gold textured card and deep grey card, I trimmed away the wheel, needle and bobbin from the grey card and distressed the edges of both. Next, I used a swirly embossing folder to add texture to the grey sewing machine and brought out the detail using a gold pigment ink pad.

Using My PC I printed to phrases 'I Love You...' and 'Sew much...Sew much...etc' onto cream paper. I trimmed each to size and added a faux stitch effect using a pattern wheel and brown fine marker before scrunching each printed strip and distressing with inks. I then attached the 'I Love You' strip to the centre of the label using 3-D foam pads.

I mounted the black sewing machine onto its gold counterpart andscrunched, creased and folded the 'Sew much' strip before attaching it to the assembled sewing machine as shown. Next, I mounted the doily and label onto the base card before die cutting the various reels and bobbins. I distressed the edges of the die cuts and wrapped each in assorted lengths of cotton before attaching to the assembled sewing machine after which, I attached the sewing machine to the base card using 3-D foam pads.
