Ethnic style creations by Karine

Hello!

Thursday, here we come with an ethnic-style creation! This lay-out has been realized with scraps from my latest mini book on the same ethnic theme. I also realized 3 cards.

Supply list:

Papers: Crate Paper
Glitter paper: American Crafts
Cardstock: American Crafts
Alphabets: Jenni Bowlin
Spay ink: Studio Calico
Black Versafine ink
Stamps: Stampin'up, Kési'Art
Masking Tape

Dies

650515 : Sizzix Big Shot Plus Starter Kit
659957 : Sizzix Original Die-Phrase, Love #3
660801 : Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 4PK-Speech-bubbles
660804 : Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 3PK-happiness-phrases

I started by selecting three tiny pictures which are very representative of my stay in Africa.

The background has been partially built with Crate Paper pattern paper pieces.
Some splashes and stamp prints are added to wrap up the whole. They are printed with black ink for a maximum of contrast.

The words “hello” & “Love” are cut out of white cardstock.

I had fun creating a frieze with the Speech Bubbles die. I cut little triangles out of pattern paper, cardstock and glitter paper. The shapes are sewn with white thread with a sewing machine, not glued, to add some texture and volume.

I wanted to keep this ethnic atmosphere when I created these 3 little cards: a gold triangle, masking tape and a small leave cut out of white paper. This pretty die is to be found in the Big Shot Plus kit!

Then the tiny accents are sewn :-)

I hope you liked today’s realizations!
See you soon,

Karine

Hello !

Une nouvelle création en ce jeudi, tendance ethnique ! Une page réalisée avec des chutes de mon dernier mini album sur le même thème, elle est accompagnée de trois petites cartes.

Matériel :

Papiers : Crate Paper
Papier pailleté : American Crafts
Cardstock : American Crafts
Alphabets : Jenni Bowlin
Encre en spray : Studio Calico
Encre Versafine noire
Tampons : Stampin'up, Kési'Art
Masking Tape

Dies

650515 : Sizzix Big Shot Plus Starter Kit
659957 : Sizzix Original Die-Phrase, Love #3
660801 : Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 4PK-Speech-bubbles
660804 : Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 3PK-happiness-phrases

Hello-card

My stash of regular birthday and just because cards has dwindled to next to nothing so I need to start filling it up again. I also knew I wanted to try using Originals Die - Phrase, Hello #2 to diecut some felt I had lying around and that is how this week's card came about.

I went with a relatively simple design for the card adding a piece of bold striped paper and on that mounting my little cluster of sentiment and embellishments.

It was very easy to diecut the felt and the cut is as clean as a cut you normally see when diecutting paper. I decided to give this simple and quick card a little extra by handstitching along the inner lines of the heart.

As you can see here the edges of the diecut sentiment is well-defined and straight.

Supply list:
Cardstock
Patterned paper
Felt
Enamel dot (My Mind's Eye)
Tread

---o---

Dearly Beloved

Whenever I have been naughty, my wife always starts by saying "You know what you've done don't you?" to which I almost always reply " What now my beloved?" in the vain hope that one little endearment will help to calm the waters.

I'm not that naughty really, just minor day-to-day irritants like forgetting to fill the water filter jug or forgetting to pick up milk or..... it's usually forgetting something or other!..... MEN!!!

This week I'm going to make her birthday card (21 again!) and I thought I would use some of the new dies/folders from Lori Whitlock and Prima listed below.

I started by cutting a 10 x 12 cm rectangle of ivory card and die-cutting a flourish from the same card. I used the flourish as a template and traced around the edge on the base of the rectangle with a pencil before trimming around the pencil line and rounding off the upper corners with a suitable punch.

I embossed the floral pattern onto the card and gently inked over the embossed image using the Weathered Wood Distress Ink pad applied with a blending tool followed by the Shabby Shutters ink pad. I also applied a little Mustard Seed ink which is a very strong yellow so use with caution, it adds a little freshness where needed. I used the same colours on the flourish.
Remember the beginning of the blog? well this is where the 'Beloved' part comes in. I measured the tab die from the Ornate Labels set and created the word 'Beloved' on my PC before printing onto ivory card. Next I cropped the word with the die and die-cut the ornate label from gold card which I then distressed with a sanding pad. I also cut the label background onto which I matted the ornate label followed by the die-cut phrase. This is a seriously useful set of dies and I urge you to check them out.
For the finishing touch I wanted to add a pretty little flower and who better to design such a set of dies but Prima. This is one of five different flowers in the same set and they are a die-cut essential in my opinion. I inked the edges of the petals using the same inks as before and set about applying a little texture and dimension to the petals using my trusty tool kit by Susan Tierney-Cockburn. I added a Crystal to the centre as the finishing touch and......

.....Here's the finished card.

I had so much fun I decided to make another one using the same elements but changing the colours slightly. I also used a different ornate label and flower, both from the same sets though.

And here they are together, now all I've got to do is choose which one I think she will like..... and then give her the other one as I'm bound to get it wrong!!!

Botanical Flourish Card

Hi there,

It's been a while since I have posted a new project - the last few weeks I have been travelling through New Zealand! This was my 5th time teaching craft classes in New Zealand, I really love it there! This was also the first time I was able to really explore the country. So it was a fabulous trip!

Back onto the crafting I have to share today, it's a simple card, perfect for those times you need a beautiful card to send to a friend.

Instructions:
1. Stamp the Darkroom Door Grid Background Stamp onto a folded card using Archival Magenta Hue ink pad.
2. Trim two images from the Darkroom Door 'Viva La Flora' Montage sheet and adhere to the card using double sided adhesive.
3. Die cut a label using the Banner & Borders Thinlits #658788 using light pink cardstock. Stamp a sentiment onto the label from the Darkroom Door 'Etched Flowers' Rubber Stamp Set using Archival Jet Black ink pad. Adhere to the card using 3D foam adhesive.
4. Die cut some green foliage using the Botanical Flourish #658226 die and tuck it in behind the label. Adhere it to the card using small dabs of wet glue.
