Inspiring me Quilt: Blocks 16-24

Hi everyone!! After two months and a half since I sew some blocks, today I show you some more  for my Inspiring me Quilt, my own design using Sizzix dies and planning to get 100 blocks.
Well, here  they are nine new blocks, some with embroidery with DMC floss.
I´m sure you can find some inspiration and even take a chance to try some of these ones.

You can find some of these dies in more of my Inspiring me quilt blocks but I always try to find a new way  displaying the fabrics.
All of them are 8.5" finished.

 ¡Hola a todo el mundo! Después de dos meses y medio desde que os enseñé  los últimos bloques para mi "Inspiring me  Quilt", hoy vengo con nueve bloques más que he diseñado usando los troqueles de Sizzix. Si recuerdas bien, mi idea es llegar a los 100.

Así que ahí te los dejo , algunos de ellos  bordados con  hilo DMC.

Estoy segura que encontrarás inspiración e incluso te atreverás con alguno de ellos.

Algunos de los troqueles ya han sido usados antes para otros bloques pero intento siempre jugar con las telas y hacer nuevas combinaciones.

Todos miden 21.5 cm

Creating Curves - part 3

HI, Trudi here from Quilting Prolifically, back from the excitement of Quilt Market in Houston.

So I finally got my quilt on with my quilt top.  I've named this one 'curves not curves'.

I started off with these dies:

and a plan.

I made 2 different blocks, you can see them in this post.

I made my top completely from scraps, so the Sizzix Big Shot Plus was great for cutting the shapes.

The next dilemma was how to quilt it.  I always had a plan to quilt curves into the piecing to accentuate the curve and take your eye away from those straight lines of the piecing.

So I added curved lines in the orange peel section, extending them all the way to the half square triangles and filled the curves with feathers.

In the center curved square area I used curved cross hatching to highlight the curves even more.











I am really pleased with the overall effect the quilting has had on changing the straight lines into curves.

 Its funny what your eye will pick up and see, but choose to ignore.

I also extended the quilting out into the borders to continue the curved story of this quilt.  I think it worked well.


So next time you fancy doing a curved quilt, but don't fancy dealing with the curves, try piecing in straight lines, but quilting the curves in to create the curved effect.

My Big School Ball

Hi everyone! September is here. Routines and school come back again. Because of that I wanted to do something new for my classroom. Working as  teacher I love to try new things with my students and if  it is possible I  prefer we can enjoy all  together. So this time I have designed a very big ball to learn  and play.

It was very easy and quick  to cut all the dresden plates, sew by machine and add  the red circles in the middle with blanket stitches with my Bernina 440 ( stitch 46).

¡Hola a todo el mundo! Ya está aquí septiembre. La rutina y la vuelta al cole regresan otra vez como cada comienzo de curso. Por eso esta vez quería hacer algo para mi clase. Trabajando como maestra, me encanta probar cosas nuevas para mis alumnos y si es posible, disfrutar juntos. Así que esta vez he diseñado un balón grande para aprender y jugar.

Fue bastante fácil  y rápido cortar las piezas de dresden , coserlas a  máquina, añadir los círculos en medio y hacer una puntada decorativa sobre ellos. Yo he usado mi Bernina 440 y la puntada 46.

He vuelto a hacer otro video explicando el tutorial. En él vais a ver  cómo corto las telas con la Big Shot Plus, añadiendo a la roja entretela por la parte del revés antes de cortar, para hacer los círculos y darle más consistencia cuando vaya a aplicarlos. La de rayas  y la estampada no necesitan  nada más. Se necesitan diez de cada para círculo grande.

Una vez que todo estén montados  los dresden, se cosen del revés dejando una parte abierta para meter el relleno , luego se cose a mano con puntada escondida.

Creo que el vídeo lo deja claro.

Starting a Vintage Grandmother´s Flower Garden Quilt

Hi everyone! Today I come back to hexagons! How does it possible if I´m working in a hexagon quilt yet ? Yes, I know , but  since I worked with this big hexagon size in one of my block in my Inspiring me quilt I felt I wanted to do a new one. That´s all !
Anyway I continue sewing the first one and I hope I can show you some progress in some weeks.

As usual I started cutting a lot of regular white cardstock  with Sizzix Bigz Die - Hexagons, 1 1/4" Sides.  This die comes with four hexagons to cut so , you can get lay three card stock and get until 12 hexagons!!

Then  a bunch of fabrics , most of them in 30's Prints and  some Mary Rose Prints  with Sizzix Bigz Die - Hexagon, 2" Sides . I cut out a lot of cream fabric too. 

This die comes with only one big hexagon but you can cut out 8 fabrics in the same time and save time too .My idea is doing a three rings flower, so my last will be this cream.

Of course  all the pieces are sewn by hand. I don´t know how big will be this quilt but I hope to enjoy a lot because I have chose beautiful fabrics.

This  has been my big project during my holidays. I love carrying my " treasure hexagon box" with my  and I have had the possibility to do more than one flower traveling by car.

 And here it is what I have done so far.

They are big blocks so I hope  this quilt can grow fast.

¡Hola a todo el mundo! ¡Hoy vuelvo con hexágonos ¡ ¿ Cómo es posible  si ya estoy trabajando en otro quilt  con ellos ?Pues sí, desde que cosí el de tamaño algo más grande en uno de los bloques  del quilt que estoy diseñando Inspiring me , sentí que quería hacer uno nuevo.

De cualquier modo , sigo trabajando en el primero y espero mostraros mis avances en algunas semanas.

Como ya es  habitual , empecé cortando un montón de patrones con cartulina blanca (los paquetes de DIN A 4 vienen estupendos para esto)  con el troquel de hexágonos de 1 ¼”  de lado.

La verdad es que puedes cortar muchos de golpe porque el troquel ya trae para cortar cuatro y si pones varias cartulinas  puedes conseguir 8 o 12 de una vez.

Luego hice lo mismo con  telas de estampados de colecciones  de los años 30 y algunas de  la colección de Mary Rose y el troquel de  hexágono de 2” de lado.También corté una buena montonera de tela crema lisa. Este troquel trae un solo hexágono pero puedes doblar la tela y cortar 8 piezas de una vez, con lo que te ahorras un montón de tiempo.

Mi idea es hacer  una flor de tres anillos , siendo el último  el color liso y que sirva para unir unas flores con otras.

Desde luego todas las piezas son cosidas  a mano. No sé todavía cómo será de grande  pero espero disfrutar con cada flor porque serán telas muy  bonitas.
Este ha sido mi gran proyecto durante las vacaciones y más de una vez se ha venido conmigo en coche.
Como resultan grandes bloques, espero que este quilt crezca con cierta rapidez.
