My beautiful Spring Bag

Hi everyone! Today is the first day of Spring! Yippieee at last! Nothing better that starting with some flowers around us, so here it is  my Spring Bag with a lovely flower I showed you some weeks ago in this post  and how I used one of the Net Waltmore die to appliqué the flower  and freezer paper.

Polly Doodle die  is going one of my favourite dies because I can mix  the different pieces as I like and  get multiple options  in my sewing.
You will  see  soon how I use it again!

Well, come back to my bag made in linen that I designed by myself.
After I appliquéd  the flower with hidden stitches I embroidered with some stitches in 8 cotton thread matching the colors of the beautiful Liberty fabric. First with straight lines around and later with some french knot in the middle.

Then  I  only quilted the big panels  by hand , top and back.
I did some bias with Liberty fabric to tie right and left side.
Sew  all the sides together and adding four bias  as you can see in the pic. After that I sew bottom  linen piece.

I did the same with the lining fabric and added a pocket inside with some lace and a metal closure.

Before sew  the linning I  added the handles and some print folded fabric all around.

And here it is with some details. I´m more than happy  to enjoy this unique bag.

I hope you like  this project. Have a wonderful weekend and I see you in fifteen days.
Love

Cutting freeze paper for appliqué with Sizzix dies

Hi everyone! Today I come with a new idea. I have been using Sizzix dies for doing some applique in a different way, using cutting out freezer paper.
You have been some of my work  sewing some stitches with my machine on the piece that I want to appliqué on the fabric.
This time I wanted to use my beautiful Liberty fabric I bought from London last summer and I wanted something more delicate and with a  linen background.
And here it is ,  a nice flower  with stems thanks to Nel Whatmore  die that was waiting for me to use.

Here I go with the steps if you want to try it.
First cut out the freezer paper  with Polly Doodle die. There are different petals so I liked this one. You can try other combination if you prefer.

Ironed the freezer paper on the wrong side of the fabric, exactly on some of the nice flowers in the fabric.

Cut out with my scissors leaving something  around the templates and used my iron.

Peeled the paper and used some glue like Sewline  to stick  the  outside stitching edge, especially with small pieces or points in the petals.
Pinned and appliquéd with hidden stitches by hand.

I have a pair of ideas to finish my work......but you  will see  later when I sew the rest and do some quilting.
I hope you enjoy this technique and how you can use Sizzix dies.Remember you can use the templates with freezer paper again!
Happy weekend and  I see you in two weeks.

Paisley Daisy Feathers

Hi, its my first day here, so be gentle with me! For the benefit of those who don't know me, I'm Trudi, I'm a Quilter, Long Armer, mother of both a teenager and an adult child, allotment grower, and on other days I also work part time.  Mostly, I'm a quilter.

I'm absolutely thrilled to be here and have plenty of ideas of how to make life just a little bit simpler with the Sizzix Big Shot.  I've been quilting for close to 25 years now, a stroker and collector of fabrics, and mainly make big quilts.  I guess I am a modern traditionalist, I like all the pretties!  Since my children have gotten to the stage they can forage for themselves I get more time for quilting.

So, to break myself in gently I recently went on a retreat, and part of which was to decorate the ticket tote for another attendee,  As a long arm quilter, I love feathers, and was recently lucky enough to demonstrate with the Nel Whatmore dies at Festival of Quilts.  Whilst there I had time to percolate a few ideas.

I selected some Art Gallery fabrics from my stash, and the Paisley Daisy die, and with a few bits of packaging from a recent purchase cut myself some plain paisley shapes.

Having roughly cut the shape about 1/4" bigger than the cut papers, I like to glue baste them.  I use a cuticle tool, to smooth down the edges and ease the fabrics evenly on the convex (outside) sides.  It also helps snipping within a few threads of the edge on the concave (inside) curves as it  persuades the fabrics to lie flat.

Once the glue is dry, after a good press with a dry iron, I removed the papers, pressed again to ensure my seams would lie flat, and machine appliqued my paisley shapes to the back part of the bag.  Nothing fancy in this, I just used my normal sewing foot, and a straight stitch, but was careful to pivot with the needle down when I needed to adjust my direction of sewing.

As my bag had been deconstructed, I could load it up on the long arm for quilting.  As the quilting is small scale and dense around the appliqued shapes, they take on a trapunto feel about them.

The circle for the center was cut free hand, however, the Circles die would be a great addition for this, as it has 3 sizes to choose from.

I am pleased to report the recipient of the bag was thrilled!  As was I with the results, so much so, I have a  table runner planned, along with the addition of the Leaves die, which I intend to hand applique. A nice project for the cooler evenings now the nights are drawing in.

Til next time, when I hope to have something a little seasonal for you.

Loving Liberty fabrics and Sizzix dies

Hi to everyone! This last week we enjoyed some days in London with family. I can´t believe we are at home after spending hours and hours walking  through its streets and so much to see.
So, time to spend far from my sewing days and finding new places to visit.
Although we knew the city for two times I was wishing to go to Liberty Shop. Love those beautiful fabrics and I wanted to have them on my hands.

As you can imagine , a lot of ideas come to my  head when I came in the Liberty world.

I could to buy some of the lovely fabrics and come back home with something to try  with Sizzix dies.....

Of course some of  the new collection dies like Nel Whatmore dies for quilting . Have  you see them ? Check them and you will love them.

I especially love this flower to sew some applique with my Liberty fabric. What´s your opinion ?

Well, I have to think , lol. I hope you enjoy  next September  week. We are having our local festival  at the village and waiting to be with family and friends!

¿ Los has visto ?
