Celebrate LOVE

Hi everyone!

February is the lovers‘ month! The month where we celebrate Love with a big L. Therefore my next posts will be dedicated to the Love theme: let’s think pink, hearts and romanticism!

Let’s start with this first layout “Toi, my Big Love” in which stars my son Maxence. I had fun with heart dies, Glimmer Mist sprays and cloth, you’re with me?

Supply list:

Papers: Canvas Corp, American Crafts
Alphabets: Pink Paisley, American Crafts
Stickers: Making Memories, Deluxe Design, Kési’Art, Crate Paper
Stamps: Florilèges Design, Craft Origine
Washi Tape
Ink: Black Versafine
Glimmer Mist: Sunflower, Red-Nosed Reindeer, Rum Punch
Glimmer Glam: Organic Garden
Glimmer Glaze: Paradise Pink

Dies Sizzix:

657793 Heart and Wing Set
657212 Mini Hearts Set
657007 Base Tray
655268 Big Shot

Start with the preparation of your cloth pieces. Spray copiously pink Glimmer Mist inks (Red-Nosed Reindeer, Rum Punch) on a white square of cloth. Let it dry in the open or reduce the drying time by using your heatgun.

While the cloth is drying, spray your background patterned paper with yellow Glimmer Mist (sunflower).

Build your layout by superimposing stickers. Play with colors and shapes to get a nice unity.

Add your picture. It could be a color picture like mine or a black & white one.
Your cloth piece is now dry. Cut some pretty textured hearts out of it with your Big Shot. Glue 4 hearts on your layout, add some other stickers with text, and stamped patterns.

Add some patterned paper strips and Washi tape on the upper and lower parts of your layout.

As a finishing touch, add some splashes with the help of pink Glimmer Glam and anise green Glimmer Glaze.

Put it under press if necessary. Your layout is done!

Have a nice day,

Karine

Papiers : Canvas Corp, American Crafts
Alphabets : Pink Paislee, American Crafts
Autocollants : Making Memories, Deluxe Design, Kési'art, Crate Paper
Tampons : Florilèges Design, Craft Orgine
Washi Tape
Encre : Versafine noire
Glimmer Mist : Sunflower, Red-Nosed Reindeer, Rum Punch
Glimmer Glam : Organic Garden
Glimmer Glaze : Paradise Pink

Dies Sizzix:

657793 Heart and Wing Set
657212 Mini Hearts Set
657007 Base Tray
655268 Big Shot

Karine

A Tag Card

Today I am sharing a tutorial on how to make a Tag card using movers and shapers. For it I am using one of my favourite Sizzix Bigz dies of all time, Tim Holtz, Tag and Bookplates ( Movers & Shapers L die) and the Movers & Shapers Magnetic Mini Hearts.

First up, position the heart within the open area of the tag. If you are like me and almost always die cut FFF (Front Facing Foam), you need to remember that the image on the die will be mirrored, i.e. the short heart will be on the left rather than on the right of the tall heart once die cut.

Die cut two pieces of patterned thick paper or card at the same time.

Then die cut an extra heart using any left overs (the one I used was from between the bookplates).

(I forgot to take the photo of the next step. So words will have to do.) Attach one short heart opposing the die cut one, and one tall one mirroring the tall die cut one.

Trim off the excess of the bottom one only.

Attach a similarly coloured thread to the paper. Use PVA glue to secure it in place.

Use one of the two tall hearts and add some adhesive to the centre. Attach it on to the thread and position it from the back of the card.

Attach the last tall heart over it with PVA glue. So that it looks like this.

To cover the threads, use the second die cut tag and glue it over it from the back.

Die cut a tag without any magnetic movers and shapers. Those squares are magnetic ejecting black foam, they are so that the card doesn't sink in on the area and easily come off. I recommend to always die cut movers and shapers with them on as long as it is possible.

The die cut card and once cut then score about 1/2" or 2.5cm from the top.

Add PVA glue to that scored flap and attach to the back of the die cut tag.

Stamp the message on the heart. I used one of my clear stamps sets for the front and for the inside I stamped a bigger sentiment from another set inside a die cut book plate.

And added the last remaining heart to the back, just perfect to write "handmade by...".

And this is the finished tag card. You can see on the right photo how the heart has a bit of movement.

Birthday card

Birthday Card by Karine/Carte d'anniversaire par Karine

I wanted to create a very masculine card to celebrate the 61st birthday of my dad!
I chose simple patterns and three shapes of dies that helped me to create this 100% handmade card!

1- Cut out a 15x30cms piece in a wood patterned paper. Fold in two. Use a punch to round the top right corner.

2-Decorate your background with a strip of paper and masking tape.

3-Cut out two frames with the Framelits. The biggest in cloth paper, the other one in a brown squared            paper.
Add two golden brads and glue to your background.

4-Cut out a heart shape with the heart die set and glue it on the center of your card with 3D foam to add volume. Decorate with a small pearl.
Stamp “happy birthday! “. Cut out your paper in a pennant shape.

  1. Now decorate inside the card! Choose the numbers you want on the Tim Holtz stencil number set: 6 and 1 for me.
Grab your yellow waisted pattern paper, cut it in a rectangle shape and cut the edges as to create a V shape. Glue it on the brown squared paper for more depth.

We wrote our wishes on white tags that are hidden under the brown paper.
So do not glue the top of your brown paper!!

So you only need a few minutes and three fantastic dies to create a pretty card that will accompany your present! My dad was really pleased!

See you soon! Karine

More smash book: the patchwork technique

 by Paula Pascual

I am back to make more spreads of my 2012 smash book. today I would like to share as well one of my favourite techniques that I use often to save al those scraps of beautiful papers that I am often left over after a big project. I call it the Paper Patchwork technique.

Not all scraps are good for this technique, what is essential is that all corners are cut a square (90 degrees) angles, if they are slightly not square angles it is not going to look good. I am using one of my all time favourite collections from Basic Grey, Picadilly.

You will need for the next step double sided tape sheet. Stix2 makes a very good A4 one, I then trim them to a A6 or similar size. Remove one of the protective layers to expose the adhesive on one side only.

Attach the first strip across.

Then start positioning the next strip right up to the other strip.

And keep on attaching the strips at different directions but making sure that there are no gaps at all between them. That is why it is important that the strips are at proper angles.

Once that the whole adhesive area is filled, turn it over to make sure that it is all covered.

Use scissors to trim the excess. Those strips can still be used, no really nothing goes to waste. On the right photo you can see the patchwork piece. It looks all right but once is die cut it will look much better.

Next step is die cutting. I am using the Mini Hearts Movers and Shapers and the Base Tray. I run it through my Big Shot Pro, but of course it will fit through your Big Shot.

And this is what you get. Isn't it lovely the patchwork effect? Using the same brand of papers means that they have exactly the same heigh and it looks and feels pretty seamless. But you can experiment with textures for a different effect.

Also, they are self adhesive as the adhesive sheets are double sided. Just remove one side and you are done.

Then I added some scrolls that I die cut using a decorative strip, the festive greenery

On the next page I attached some more photos and some memorabilia. My 2012 smash bookis coming along nicely!
