A crafty way to keep track of flower dies

I am not sure about you, but I do love and have loads of flower dies. So many that sometimes it is hard to keep track of all of them. For this reason, I came up with an easy reference swatch book that allows be to look through the different flower dies as well as allowing me to check whether some of them look good together even though they are from different sets.

This is the finished swatch book. Here is how I made it.

I die cut all my flowers using different scraps of paper. I printed (as my handwriting is atrocious) the name of each set for easy reference. I attached the name of the set onto thick acetate and then glue the flowers on the acetate. Each set is on a separate acetate.

Using a Cropadile, I made a single hole on the top left corner of all the acetates, and linked them all with a ball chain, which is easy to open to add more or rearrange order.

Here is some of the pages of my swatch book.

This is how it works, by layering different pages I can find out how some of them will work together.

Some of the possibilities were a complete surprise how well they look together.

One of my favorite combinations was this one above, using the Intricate flowers 1 and Intricate Flowers 2. Even though they have similar names I did not designed them to work together at all. But they work really nicely so I am very happy.

To make a simple card, I stamped a message on the same paper and die cut it using one of the Sentiment Tag dies. As I wanted it a little bit shorter I place the die purposely over the edge of the paper, one of the beauties of the Framelits I know exactly how it is going to look once die cut.

And that is the finished card. The flower is the central point and I would have only come up with this combo because my new flower reference booklet.

Pinwheel birthday

Merle turned three this week-end and I wanted to make a fun and bright card for a summer-girl like Merle.

It is easy to make a pinwheel by die cutting a square, cutting half way in from each corner, folding the corners towards the midle of the square and glueing them down. I used Sizzix Framelits Die Set 6PK - Squares, Scallop to give my pinwheel even more details. As the base of the pinwheel I used a paper straw in a fun pattern.

Since Merle was born I've added butterflies to her scrapbooking layouts, cards etc. and this time aroud was no different: Tree little veneer butterflies had landed on the pinwheel.

In order to be able to add name and age to the card I used Sizzix Framelits Die Set 12PK - Tags, Sentiments to die cut two tags. I didn't want them to have the rounded end, så I folded the paper and let the die hang out over the fold.

This gave me two nicely cut tags that I attached around the paper straw using a stapler. Then I added Merle's name and age using letter stickers.

This is not a card that will easily fit in an envelope but I do think it is fun once in a while to make cards with a lot of dimension.

Alma tumler i sneen

I had a beautiful picture of Alma in the snow and I wanted to make a wintery scrapbook page for that photo so I went with my favourite winter colour scheme: blues, red and white.

The page is fairly simple but that is the way I like my pages: I cut a piece of pattern paper to work as a frame for the photo and then I added various embellishments and a title around the photo.

I die cut the largest of the snowflakes from Sizzix Framelits Die Set 3PK - Snowflakes and divided it in two adding one part to the upper left corner of the photo and the other part to the lower right corner of the photo.

Besided from the snowflake I die cut multiple tags using the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 12PK - Tags, Sentiments, stamped them using various winter themed stamps and hang them from baker's twine wrapped around the entire layout a few times.

Skoleklar / Ready for school

Wednesday again and this week I decided to create a layout using a few of Sizzix Framelit dies. They are terrific all round dies that can be used for cards, layouts and all kinds of projects.

I find that when using shapes on a layout they stand out less than when using them on a card but that is fine by me: I want to create a whole. I clustered by two pictures on top of a large tag made using the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 9PK - Tags #2. On the buttom of the tag I added a sliver of a different pattern paper die cut with the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 6PK - Squares, Scallop.

I didn't have room to fit in a large title so I felt I needed to anchor the title somewhat. I die cut two tags using Sizzix Framelits Die Set 12PK - Tags, Sentiments and then added my title to the tag. This is a good way to make sure a small title can still be seen.

I even got around to incorporating some hexagons as a contrast to the circles from the balloons.

Bright and cheerful hexagons

Yet another Wednesday and yet again it is time for me to share a project with you. My mother had asked if I could do a card for a little girl's baptism using bright and happy colours and this is what I came up with.

It is indeed and bright and happy card and I enjoyed creating it using fun papers and various Sizzix dies.

The pattern on the right side of the card was created by die cutting a number of matching patterned papers into hexagons using the Sizzix Frameworks Die - Honeycomb.

Next up I die cut a frame using the same die (in a white piece of scrap paper) to use as a stencil when lining up the hexagons to form a pattern. I simply alligned the stencil where I wanted it, glued down all the hexagons directly on the front of the card base and once I had all of them in place I cut of what ever extended beyond the card base. To finish off the patterned portion of the card I ran a green sliver of paper as well as some glitter tape down the card.

The final touch was to add two tags made using the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 12PK - Tags, Sentiments to house the sentiment and the little girl's name. The tags hang from a piece of baker's twine wrapped around the green paper.

Easter Chickens

With Easter rapidly approaching I took the opportunity to decorate an egg carton with chocolate-eggs in it. Since I made the box for a little girl I wanted it to be playful and fun so I decided to use one of the birds from Sizzix Bigz Die - Birds #3.

1. Using the Magnetic Platform and a die from Sizzix Framelits Die Set 7PK - Ovals I was able to cut a rounded edge on the pattern paper I wanted to dress the egg carton in.
2. Once I had achieved the rounded edge on the paper I attached it to the egg carton using a fast drying liquid glue.
3. Before closing the carton I wrapped all four eggs in pink tissue paper.

4. I wanted the birds to sit perched on top of the box and in order to achieve this I attached a strip of paper to the back of each die cut bird.
5. To hide the paper strip I die cut birds in plain cardstock and glue to the back of each bird.
6. Next up I decorated the birds with googly eyes, beaks and combs. Once that was done I attached the birds to the egg carton using glue dots.

I tied a ribbon around the box, closed it with a bow and then attached a tag with the name of the recipient on it. The tag was made with one of the dies from Sizzix Framelits Die Set 12PK - Tags, Sentiments.

5. Ekstra udstansninger i almindeligt karton skjuler papirstrimlen.
