A little more Elegance

Today we are taking another look at the Elegance die range, but this week we are hoping to achieve that elusive elegant touch using a very basic colour palette. They say simple is beautiful well I like to think it can also be elegant too!

The die that I used is a dove named Delicate Wings together with some great stamps from the good people at Darkroom Door. The colours of card are a couple of warm greys together with some pale cream and the Distress Inks are Old Paper and Pumice Stone.

I started by die-cutting the dove from cream card before applying the text stamp inked up with Pumice Stone Distress ink; these inks are not really designed for rubber stamping but they do give a lovely soft, subtle image.Next, I gently applied Old Paper ink around the edges.

I cut a rectangle of grey card measuring 95 x 140 mm and rounded off the corners with a punch before stamping the legend 'thank you' onto a strip of darker card before gently inking the edges. I gave the dove a very light spritz of spray adhesive before applying a little Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter which creates a very subtle effect on the right side of bling!

Here's the finished card piece mounted onto a standard sized cream base card. Hope you like it!
Next Wednesday I will be blogging as usual but I will be on my way to Frankfurt to attend the Creativeworld fair, It's always a very exciting time and I promise to tell you all about it when I return.

The Magnificent Seven

I loved that film when I was a kid! It was always to be found in the festive TV schedule usually on a Sunday afternoon between Christmas and New Year. In this context however it is the most spurious title I have used this year and as regular readers will know, it has some stiff competition.

I wanted to set myself a challenge again this week. The challenge was to create a number of different 'Quick Make' cards for last minute emergencies (we always forget someone!). I also wanted to use the same set of dies namely the marvellous Paper Snowflakes Thinlits set from Tim Holtz winter collection. I also used a couple of stamp sets the Christmas Reindeer set from Darkroom Door (DRD). The 'Let it Snow' stamp is from my stamp stash and I'm afraid I can't remember where it comes from!

The reason that the title of this blog falls a little short is that ....... I only made six cards, OOOOPS!!

.....and they are not that magnificent really, but I like 'em!

They are as I said quick makes and it is pretty self evident how they were created so I did away with my usual step-by-step images and just added a few simple instructions to each picture, I hope they show a little bit of versatility for such a simple die set, I could have kept going for ages.... maybe one more would have been nice?

Botanical Flourish Card

Hi there,

It's been a while since I have posted a new project - the last few weeks I have been travelling through New Zealand! This was my 5th time teaching craft classes in New Zealand, I really love it there! This was also the first time I was able to really explore the country. So it was a fabulous trip!

Back onto the crafting I have to share today, it's a simple card, perfect for those times you need a beautiful card to send to a friend.

Instructions:
1. Stamp the Darkroom Door Grid Background Stamp onto a folded card using Archival Magenta Hue ink pad.
2. Trim two images from the Darkroom Door 'Viva La Flora' Montage sheet and adhere to the card using double sided adhesive.
3. Die cut a label using the Banner & Borders Thinlits #658788 using light pink cardstock. Stamp a sentiment onto the label from the Darkroom Door 'Etched Flowers' Rubber Stamp Set using Archival Jet Black ink pad. Adhere to the card using 3D foam adhesive.
4. Die cut some green foliage using the Botanical Flourish #658226 die and tuck it in behind the label. Adhere it to the card using small dabs of wet glue.

Supplies used:
Sizzix Originals Die: Botanical Flourish #658226
Sizzix Thinlits Die: Banner & Borders #658788
Darkroom Door Rubber Stamp Set: Etched Flowers DDRS088
Darkroom Door Background Stamp: Grid DDBS037

Photobooth Picture Wheel Card

Hi everyone, I have a fun project to share with you today from Darkroom Door Creative Team member Connie Mercer.

Connie has used the Sizzix Tim Holtz Bigz Picture Wheel Die and Darkroom Door Photobooth images. It's a super fun way to use both of these products together! Let's see what Connie has created...

So get your supplies in front of you ~ photo booth, word strip, French Script Background Stamp and the Sizzix Picture Wheel die. You'll need ink too

First run the Picture Wheel die through your Big Shot machine using white cardstock.  Then ink around the edges with black ink, for shading.  It's a good idea to use one that is really dry so it's easy get a good shade, not a dark line. Select photo's (from photo booth sheet) with two people. You will need 6.

Then cut them apart, like I have shown in the photo.

Now for the fun part. Use the Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher and staple them in the frame and then cut off the excess.

This is how the back will look.

And here is Connie's finished card.  The size is 5" X 5"on Kraft cardstock.  Connie also stamped the patterned paper with the Darkroom Door French Script Background Stamp. Love that look!!!

Supplies used:
Fabric
Patterned Paper

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Jolly Santa Tag

Hi there! It's Rachel here from a cold and rainy Australia... perfect weather for crafting! I know Christmas is a few months away but it's never too early to start thinking about Christmas cards! Especially if you have lots to make!

Today I'm sharing a project created by Marjie Kemper who is on the Darkroom Door Creative Team. Marjie has used the Sizzix Tags & Bookplate die as the main element to work on for her tag:

KemperSanta07072013

Marjie used the Darkroom Door Jolly Santa Collage stamp and the Sizzix Snow Flurries texture fade to create this wintery tag. The tag was cut from white cardstock using the Sizzix Tag & Bookplates die. Next she added texture with the Snow Flurries texture fade, running it through the machine twice to cover the entire tag.

She stamped the Jolly Santa and added some of the Snow Flurries around the edges by carefully positioning the stamped image in the Texture Fade, one snowflake at a time.

Here the reverse side ~ she ended up with Snow Flurries just around the Santa image, and not on top of him.

Layers of Distress Inks build up the background.

Marjie used Distress Markers to color Santa and his bag. Some twine and plastic snowflake bits finish it off.

Darkroom Door Products used:
Jolly Santa Collage Stamp

Sizzix Products used:
656938 - Tag & Bookplates Die
656944 - Snow Flurries Texture Fade

The Snow Flurries Texture Fade is no longer sold in the UK, so if you don't already have this in your stash, you could try using either of these as an alternative:

I hope this has inspired you to get started on your Christmas projects soon :)

Happy stamping!
