Summer Birds

Hi there,
today I made a summer decoration for the garden. I like it when something nice is blowing and waving in the trees. This summer I have chosen cute, little summer birds.

All you need is your favourite paper, strong cardboard, matching feathers, sequins and beads, a small branch, yarn and cord.
Of course, the most important thing is your Big Shot Plus and from the ...

The cardboard is glued on both sides with the birds, so the Mobile can rotate in all directions.

The birds are so lovely, that I decided to put also one of them onto my pencilbox.

Do you like it?

Have a nice weekend!

Little birds for a baby

The long anticipated baby has arrived - and it's a boy - James Arthur, brother to 3 beautiful girls!
So there will be a quilt for him - but I really must finish the quilts for two of his sisters and one of his cousins before I start his ( the good news is that all 3 tops are made - I just need to layer them up and quilt them!!)
So a quick gift is what I need - so here it is -
a little string of birds that can fix across his pram - I did think of adding some little bells to this but know that my daughter, Naomi, wouldn't appreciate it.
I used Bigz die 657685 http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/657685/sizzix-bigz-die-birds-3 and the Big Shot http://www.sizzix.co.uk/product/660200/sizzix-big-shot-machine-only-white-gray  to cut the birds in felt - I chose grey and aqua - cutting 4 birds, 2 wings and 2 eyes in grey, and 2 birds, 4 wings and 4 eyes in aqua.
I started by stitching the eyes and wings in place, using a small running stitch, but this can also be stitched on a machine. ( remember to make pairs of birds)

Then I stitched 2 grey birds together, with a length of grey ric rac running through the middle, and adding a little toy stuffing before completing the stitching -
it just remained to complete the other 2 birds in the same way.
I now have a little gift to take when I visit again tomorrow.
An alternative would be to make the birds into a mobile - hanging the birds from ribbon attached to the back.
I could also make a little quilt to match - or even add a bird to a tiny t-shirt - I'm sure my granddaughters will help me decide on the next thing to make for him.
So that's all for this week, have fun sewing.

Black bird singing...

Last week I showed you a card with a cute owl on it and this week my card sports another bird: I know a little girl whose name means black bird and I when I make birthday cards for her, I make sure to encorporate a black bird. This year I went big:

Using one of the birds from Sizzix Bigz Die - Birds #3 I made a black bird the main motif of the card. I simply die cut the bird and its wing from black cardstock, the beak in patterned paper and added the eye in white cardstock decorated with a googly eye.

I made the background look somewhat like the bird was perched on a fence by choosing a patterned paper with a woodgrain / fence look.

In order to add some extra embellishments I diecut a cloud and a sun from Sizzix Framelits Die Set 9PK w/Stamps - Welcome Home in neutral patterned paper. I even stamped the diecut shapes with the coordinating stamps and then I decorated the sun with an enamol dot before adding it to the card on a few foam squares.

I had tied a piece of seam binding around the card where the two patterned paper met in order to hide the seam between the papers. It gave me a chance to add a tag made using a die from Sizzix Framelits Die Set 12PK - Tags, Sentiments. I decorated the tag with a small cloud and a heart from Sizzix Framelits Die Set 9PK w/Stamps - Welcome Home.

Spring Fever

I hope you are all enjoying spring? This week I want to show a card I made for some one who might not be enjoying spring right now: I wanted to create a get well soon card with a spring theme.

To me one of the cool things about dies is that they can be used in other ways than they were originally designed: When I saw the feet for the birds from Sizzix Bigz Die - Birds #3 I immediately thought they would be perfect as naivistic tree trunks. So that is how I used them on this week's card. When it came to adding tree tops I needed those to be very simple too. That led me to using the eye from Bigz Die - Birds #3 as well as from Bigz Die - Owl #2.

Easter Chickens

With Easter rapidly approaching I took the opportunity to decorate an egg carton with chocolate-eggs in it. Since I made the box for a little girl I wanted it to be playful and fun so I decided to use one of the birds from Sizzix Bigz Die - Birds #3.

1. Using the Magnetic Platform and a die from Sizzix Framelits Die Set 7PK - Ovals I was able to cut a rounded edge on the pattern paper I wanted to dress the egg carton in.
2. Once I had achieved the rounded edge on the paper I attached it to the egg carton using a fast drying liquid glue.
3. Before closing the carton I wrapped all four eggs in pink tissue paper.

4. I wanted the birds to sit perched on top of the box and in order to achieve this I attached a strip of paper to the back of each die cut bird.
5. To hide the paper strip I die cut birds in plain cardstock and glue to the back of each bird.
6. Next up I decorated the birds with googly eyes, beaks and combs. Once that was done I attached the birds to the egg carton using glue dots.

I tied a ribbon around the box, closed it with a bow and then attached a tag with the name of the recipient on it. The tag was made with one of the dies from Sizzix Framelits Die Set 12PK - Tags, Sentiments.

5. Ekstra udstansninger i almindeligt karton skjuler papirstrimlen.
