Mailbox Monday (130)

I'm managing to check in for a bit and post a Mailbox Monday update!
Mailbox Monday
For Review from France Book Tours
The Secret Language of Stones by M.J. Rose
I've read two other books by M.J. Rose and have enjoyed them both. Each one was historical fiction with a bit of magic thrown in, and I'm pretty sure based on the cover that will be the same this time.

Purchased
The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
I feel like I'm the last one to jump on the train here (Get it?!?), but I've finally arrived. I've actually already read this, and loved it. I totally see where the hype is coming from. Review to come... hopefully in the next year or so!

From Paperback Swap
Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins
So five years ago, I read Hex Hall, the first in this series. Obviously, I've forgotten quite a bit, but do remember enjoying it. Hopefully this is as good as I remember, and maybe I'll even finish the series before the decade is over!

Mailbox Monday (99)

Yes, I'm back again linking up my newly acquired books with Mailbox Monday!
Mailbox Monday
From Goodreads
I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes
This one is actually a finalist in Goodreads' Best Books of the Year for thriller, which I'm sure if why they were giving copies away in the first place. I tend not to read a ton of thrillers, but knowing this may be considered one of the best published this year... well it's makes me think I'll probably enjoy it too. No idea when I'll have the time to read it, but it's still one I hope to get to eventually.

The Water in the Middle East

When Camels Fly by NLB Horton
Published
: May 15, 2014 by NLBHorton, via Amazon’s White Glove
After Grace daughter is abducted she's goes off to rescue her, and succeed. But then when both Grace and her daughter are captured again, both her husband and son travel to Israel to rescue the rest of the family.

Several years ago I was lucky enough to travel to Israel and absolutely fell in love with the country on this trip. I loved how ready this book brought me back there. I could so clearly see the characters at the Western Wall, or riding camels in the desert, or eating in a bedoiun tent.
not quite in a straight line
This is me, riding a camel in the deserts of Israel
Unfortunately though, I didn't quite connect with the story the same way. There was so many different things going on and so many twists and turns. But it changed the point of view without any clear guidance of who we were hearing from. There were lies and double crossing. And while it was meant to be complicated unfortunately I was lost for a good portion of it.

This is the author NLB Horton, also riding a camel in the deserts of Israel
I realize I don't read very many thriller and I think maybe if I did I would have had a better grasp as to what was going on. But even so it definitely was an entertaining story and I had fun with it.
