Scrapping Our Stash : April Blog Hop

Friday, April 25, 2014

Welcome to April's Scrapping Our Stash Blog Hop with Practical Scrappers! You should have found your way here from Brenda's blog. If not, make sure to head over to the Practical Scrappers blog to find a full list and start from the beginning. You're in for lots of inspiration!

For this month's project, I pulled out a few pieces from BoBunny's Enchanted Collection. This collection is a few years old and is absolutely gorgeous - Black and white and glitter all over! For this layout, only a small portion of the patterned paper peeks through the layers, but it was just enough.

Bride Wedding Layout
The pictures are of the most darling of brides, a dear friend of mine. They cried to be the main focal point; therefore, I tried to create a minimalist layout. The doilies, a never-ending supply in my stash, added texture without overpowering the page. I promise I can sew in a straight line, but I went for a messy look, adding an additional layer of dark grey thread.

Thanks for hopping along... And thank you to Glitz Photography for the pictures of my gorgeous friend! Your next stop is Susie's blog with more Stash Scrappin fun!

A wonderful year with SWAT

Saturday, February 1, 2014

Hello all! Today I must share some sad news - I'll be taking a break from the SWAT team. What a fun year it has been with these talented, kind, and beautiful ladies! I couldn't help but look back on the last year of drills, starting with my very first drill - All About Me

I've gathered together my favorite projects from the past year of drills. Join me in a little bit of crafty reminiscing...

Drill #24 : Button Up This Sketch

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

Have you seen the exciting Drill over at the SWAT blog? We're challenging you to take this sketch from Page Maps and create a layout with buttons somewhere on the page!

Scrapbook Sketch

Here's my take on the sketch:

Scrapbook Layout (via shezigzags.blogspot.com)
I have had these crazy photo booth images from Renegade Craft Fair sitting near my craft table for two summers now just waiting to be scrapped! They're the worst photo booth pictures in history -- which makes them the BEST photo booth pictures in history!

Thickers Scrapbook Layout
I added different alpha stickers and chipboard words to create a title that fit well with the theme of the pictures. I decided to use the buttons the same way I would enamel dots or other bling. It was fun to dig into my stash and use them in a creative way!

Scrap Your Stash : Practical Scrappers Blog Hop

Friday, January 10, 2014

Good morning and welcome to the Practical Scrappers Blog Hop! You should have found your way here from Erin's blog. Thanks for hopping along. In case you get lost, or want to start at the very beginning, visit the Practical Scrappers Blog

CHA is in full swing and that means the industry is showing off some amazing new product that I can't wait to get my hands on! Who's with me?! In order to make room for all the new stuff I'm sure to pick up, we're kicking off our monthly Scrapping Our Stash Series with a Blog Hop!

Beauty Layout (via shezigzags.blogspot.com)
I looked through my papers and embellishments for some papers I had been hoarding and immediately came across this 'you are awesome' paper. It is awesome, and it was time to be used. I paired it with a few Studio Calico papers from past scrapbooking kits and beauty photos. My sister-in-law Elle asked me to be a model last year for her final portfolio. She cut and dyed my hair, styled the outfit, and created nothing but beauty. I wanted to document the experience and journal about how proud we are of her accomplishment!

Scrapbook Layout
I also looked at my Silhouette designs that I've purchased the last year and found so many I haven't used yet! This was the perfect opportunity to cut that adorable scissors. I cut the beauty script with the Silhouette as well, forming the 'Create Beauty' title.

As a thank you for hopping along with us today, there's a prize up for grabs from Kiwi Lane Designs. You can do any or all of the following for up to three entries:
So much fun digging into my stash! Now head over to Krissy's blog to see her amazing project!

Smile

Thursday, December 26, 2013

Are you as tired as I am? Christmas was filled with lots of food, family, and fun, but boy is it exhausting! What am I doing out of bed?! It's back to work for the rest of the week where I'm trying to complete a wedding album. I can't help but share the following page, which is slapping me in the face as I am on coffee cup number three!

Wedding Scrapbook Layout (via shezigzags.blogspot.com)
These pictures of the bride and groom greeting family and friends after the ceremony are just darling and needed to be included in the album! I chose to keep the page clean and simple, adding the pictures directly to the background page and adding a single piece of patterned paper along the bottom.

WRMK Embossed Stickers
The title was cut from the same white cardstock using the Silhouette Cameo. The weld option on the Silhouette makes it so easy to adhere the word to the page as one complete piece.

WRMK Embossed Stickers
To bring in a little color, I grabbed embossed cardstock stickers from the Chalkboard Collection by We R Memory Keepers. Several pieces from the sticker sheet were layered onto the page with a simple typed word.

Scrapbook Layout
Now, how can you not smile after seeing something like that?! Hope you're having a wonderful, restful day.

Drill #21 : Caroling We Go

Saturday, December 7, 2013

Are you ready for a new drill from SWAT? We're starting December off right. For this challenge, create a layout with a Christmas Carol as a title. You have until December 28th to link up your creations - There's a fun prize up for grabs!

For my layout, I chose an older photo of me hanging out at our family's cabin in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Friends have laughed at my snowman in this picture, but I think it's quite the looker!

BoBunny Snowman Layout (via shezigzags.blogspot.com)
Papers from Bo Bunny's Elf Magic and Woodland Winter collections were used, including these gorgeous snowflake stickers. The title was created with a Silhouette Cameo and cut on white cardstock. I chose to use the negative space and allow the dark blue to show through!

Good Times

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and it's the perfect reminder to appreciate all God has blessed us with. Today, I'm extra thankful for great friends. And that's exactly what the layout is about - Great company, laughter, and friendship.

Friendship Scrapbook Layout
Let me first point out the funny cards on our foreheads. It's the game of Headbandz, and everyone should play!

I tried to keep this layout simple, matting each photo and adding a strip of patterned paper to anchor them to the page. The title was cut from American Crafts Dark Kraft paper, and I added a few strips throughout the layout to tie it in. Of course, I couldn't help but add a little faux stitching with my favorite white gel pen.

It must be fear of writing directly onto a layout, but I always seem to write my journaling on strips of white paper and then cut them up, spreading them throughout the page. They're perfect subtitles to describe each photo and help me remember names and details far into the future.

Use It Tuesday : Anything Goes

Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Today at Use It Tuesday, we have a favorite challenge for you: ANYTHING GOES! So dig into your stash of hoarded items, we know you have them, and make something. Anything. Then link up the creation by Friday, December 6th.

For this challenge, I dug out some old papers, embellishments, and STAMPS! Image stamps are not always my go-to supply while scrapbooking, so they often get overlooked.

Shopping Scrapbook Layout
The tag and 'cheesin' phrase were both stamped onto white cardstock and cut out to make a fun embellishment. The stamp set, vintage Market Street Stamps, is a travel-themed set. However, the tag worked perfectly for this shopping layout!

Adding journaling to scrapbook layouts
There's lots of paper distressing and stitching on this layout - both machine and doodled. The title was cut from BasicGrey patterned paper using my Silhouette Cameo. The pattern was a little busy and hard to read, so I added some faux stitching with a black marker.

Lil Swimmer Layout

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

Last week I shared a few pages from my 2013 album using pocket protectors to document my summer. It's only appropriate that I share the layout that accompanied them. Here's what the pages look like together inside the album...

Mixing 12x12 layouts and pocket pages
I just love pocket scrapbooking! And here's a close up of the 12x12 traditional layout I created...

Swimming Scrapbook Layout
My nephew is only a few months old, which means I'm documenting EVERYTHING. Everything he does is a fun, new, exciting adventure. I can't help but capture, and document, all of it. That includes the first time I saw him "swimming" in a pool. Can we all just agree that babies in pools are cute?! So cute.

Faux stitching on layouts
I choose papers full of yellow and orange to coordinate with the teal of the photo, but to also create a bright summer layout. The small strip of teal paper was added in to tie the papers and photos together. A few splashes of Mister Huey's mist was added to the stark white background.

Stamping on layouts
All of the other elements were cut with the Silhouette Cameo. The title was the Bebas font, cut from the same patterned paper used behind the photos. Faux stitching was added to break up all of the yellow I gathered together. I couldn't help but stamp a few sayings around the layout with the help of Citrus Twist Kits. Stamping on layouts has become a must for me.

Stamping on layouts
It's only in the 30's here in Wisconsin, so I'm loving the idea of swimming and summer. Hope this layout brings a smile and a little warmth to your corner of the globe!

Drill #20 : Feathers

Saturday, November 16, 2013

Good morning! It's time for another Saturday with SWAT! For this challenge, we're asking you to use the sketch below from Page Maps, as well as use FEATHERS.

scrapbook sketch

I started out with some crazy photos taken with my roommate. The feather trend is one of my favorites, because, like arrows and triangles, it's an element that can be incorporated into almost any layout or card theme.

Scrapbook layout (via shezigzags.blogspot.com)
I chose to use a feather stamp from A Muse Studio. I stamped it with black StazOn onto two patterned papers that coordinated with the layout. I used my fingers to fold the edges, creating some texture, before adhering them to the page. To add just a bit of glam, I added Stickles too!

creating scrapbook embellishments with stamps
For the line on the bottom half of the sketch, I used two strips that I had previously cut off patterned papers. They're the strips along the bottom that hold the barcode and name of paper. These ones had patterns on one side. You would never know that they were meant to be trash!

scrapbook titles
The products from this layout are a mixture of November's Studio Calico Scrapbook Kit and Amy Tangerine's Cut & Paste Collection. The tag in the scrapbook kit was a perfect place to add my journaling. I stamped the 'i love this' image onto the top of the tag, also from the kit.

Thanks for dropping by the blog today and checking out my take on the challenge. Now it's your turn! You have until November 28th to create your own project - using the sketch and feathers - and link it up to the SWAT blog. As always, there's a fun prize up for grabs. I can't wait to see what you create.

One Last Halloween Layout

Thursday, November 14, 2013

Good afternoon paper crafters! I have one last Halloween project to share this year. This was one I created a month or more ago, preparing for Halloween, and then I forgot about it!

The pictures on the layout are not the best quality. They were taken in dim lighting, without a flash, on a cell phone. Therefore, I wanted to incorporate as much white and grey as possible to lighten up the pictures. Most of the papers and embellishments come from the Bewitched collection by We R Memory Keepers. The hexagons were cut from a patterned paper in the collection, opting to scatter them onto a white background than use a chunk of the paper.

Just a bit of stamping and enamel dots finish off this layout. It was a quick one to put together.

With that, I say goodbye to October and fully embrace the Thanksgiving season. Stop by tomorrow for a Fall-themed project. You won't want to miss it!
