BP Portrait Award.................Not!

My submission has again been rejected for the BP Portrait Award. From 2,377 entries, 55 works have been selected. I think it would have been a miracle! Guilt now takes over at money wasted
.............about £150 altogether..................especially with the bailiffs knocking at the door!

Eat - Progress

Eat 16" x 20" x 3 Charcoal

From photos taken at Hertford Life Drawing......beginnings of drawings destined for Hertford Art Society Annual Exhibition. Not sure about them yet. I do have better, more interesting photos, I think.
Can anyone tell me why I am only able to resize two of the three images ? !

Lunch 24" x 24" Oil

I have spent a couple of days wondering what to do about the background of this painting to make it a masterpiece (!) ;o  Asking advice on Facebook and playing with lots of options on Photoshop, but in the end I feel it grabs attention as it is. I might still fiddle with details, maybe darken the background, but it is done!

Lunch 24" x 24" Oil Initial Scribbles

I fetched my pictures back from Kings Lynn today. Draw a line under that then...done.
After tiddling a few paintings and frames aimlessly, despondently, I remembered the photos I had taken of the lovely model we had on Saturday at Hertford. I loved her childish outfit......pink!.......and her stripey socks! Woohoo...I'm away again, I love painting !!!!!

Busker Boys 20" x 16" Oil WIP

I cannot believe we went to Wells-next-the-Sea on Monday and I didn't take any photos of the boats! I cannot believe we went to Wells-next-the-Sea on a bank holiday Monday! Especially Easter. Not surprising we couldn't get near the fish restaurant and had to eat take away in the car....still delicious though ......and a better view!
I DID take photos of these glorious busking boys and also of the beach huts in Old Hunstanton, both with a view to painting.
This is absolutely nothing like what's in my head, so maybe I'll be doing a few from this reference. Thank you boys!

Painting.......or not.

Siblings  20" x 16"   Oil

I have finished this commission,  just in time for Christmas, and really hope the recipient likes it and think she has a wonderful brother to think of such a lovely gift. Can't believe I started this back in September!

So.....I have been painting, a little, but, I confess I have turned my attention elsewhere....back to my first love...sort of. When I was 17 I wanted to be Michelangelo! I wanted to have created 'David' and 'Pieta' but real life took over and I have never, or ever shall, have the wherewithall to realise such ambition. But carve wood I can do, or at least I can try. My efforts are not for public scrutiny as yet...but don't go away!

Siblings 20" x 16" Oil WIP

This is the commission I have been working on, which my client, David , has kindly given permission to post. It's coming together quite well, but then it's just copying a photo, and I'm having a good time. Now the tricky stuff starts...with getting the likeness precisely. It looks like them to me, but I'm not their mother, who is to be the recipient!

Kathy 16" x 20" Charcoal

I have been tiddling with this, today, which I started, from life, at the last Hertford Art Society life session. Kathy was sitting opposite me, and having exhausted the possibilities of the models' pose, I spent the last half an hour scribbling. Had not Kathy expressed a wish for the drawing I doubt I would have returned to it, mainly because it is on the backing cardboard of a sketch pad!

Procrastinating!

Remember this? I didn't want to do what I should have been doing, so I got this out. Wasn't happy with the red and yellow, and the jug didn't sit on the table!

Not Mine! 16" x 20"  Oil

So I remedied that and I'm happy. Sorry, Pam, but I love this!

Self Scrutiny Too  12" x 14"  Oil

Miserable again! Well you'd think so........:)
I had a lovely afternoon slapping the paint about...in my usual reserved manner........and I like how I look ten years younger.
