See Kathi Price's Selvage Fabric Bins!

Kathi Price of Texas makes the most charming selvage items! Now she's making fabric bins. These 3 photos are all the same bin: front, back and inside-out. The fabric with all the words (Sweetwater by Moda) goes perfectly with the selvages, doesn't it?
Kathi is all over the web! She sells her kreations too. See them at:

Birthday party prize winners (packs of interesting new selvages) announced tomorrow! Scroll down to enter the drawing. (April 29 post)

Coiled Selvage Basket

"Misses Stitches," a fabric artist in Northern California just made her first selvage project, a coiled basket. She knew there must be some good reason she was saving those selvages. And she has enough rope to make countless more baskets. To read more, visit her blog at: http://www.missesstitches.blogspot.com/.

Meet Catherine from France

Catherine from France has made her first selvage project, a pretty basket that she uses to hold spools of thread. The buttons are a nice touch, and I really like the selvage that looks like a red tape measure! I'd like to see more of that pineapple quilt under the basket too. Nice job, Catherine!

Fiesta's Selvage Basket

Fiesta from Florida made this pretty selvage basket cover. What a nice job! When she's not quilting or gardening, Fiesta is a Spanish teacher. Take a look at her blog:

Brenda's Basket - New Method

Take a look at Brenda's new selvage basket block. She's been experimenting with the process of sewing selvages together without a foundation fabric, and she says it's working fine! Visit her blog to find out more: http://www.scrapsandstrings.blogspot.com/.

We hope you're staying warm up there in Manitoba, Brenda!

Selvagey Basket Block

Brenda of Manitoba, Canada made this artistic and charming string block. While it's not a selvage block, it is definitely selvagey.

There is so much that I love about this piece! The writing on the basket fabrics interests me, especially my old favorite, "Run, Dick, run." The strings look nice ararnged on an angle. And that splash of color is perfect, near all those neutrals. The black and white bias handle has an appropriately woven look. And the background is quiet, but interesting; a little askew like the basket. I bet Brenda threw this together intuitively, and it's just right!

Be the first to try this with selvages!

Take a look at this great idea. Susan Brier has written a book about how to make these pretty baskets by covering clothesline "rope" with strips of fabric, then sewing them into coils using the zig-zag setting on your sewing machine. Wouldn't this look great done with selvages?

I don't have a zig-zag setting on my machine, so if you make one of these, please email a photo to me at karengriska@selvagequilts.com and I'll post it here.
