Wabi Sabi Quilt is Finished!

And the pattern is finished too! This is a raw-edge machine applique quilt. The final task is trimming off all the loose threads after machine washing and drying. But then it has a nice soft texture.

Wabi sabi is a Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in simplicity, authenticity, imperfection, and the natural cycle of growth and decay. It also involves asymmetry which goes against my natural default settings. That's part of the fun of making a quilt like this.

Wabi Sabi quilt by Karen Griska.

All of these photos were taken after machine washing and drying.

Wabi Sabi Quilt

I've been wanting to make a wabi sabi style quilt for a while, and just finished my first one today. Now I can't wait to make another. This is raw-edge machine applique. The frayed edges will add a nice touch. I'll show you how it looks after machine washing and drying.

Newest Quilt Pattern! Sweetie Pie

Here it is: Sweetie Pie. That sounds better than "Baby's First Pie Chart," right? This is a raw-edge applique quilt, the first one made on my new sewing machine. This quilt has been machine washed and dried (on HOT settings) and it's puckered and soft. This quilt and the pattern will go in my Etsy shop today.

Have some quilting fun this weekend! Tell me what you're working on.

Easy Quilt Pattern, Raw-Edge Tied

This soft quilt is great for beginners and people who need a quilt finished yesterday!
Raw-edge squares and little wool ties (see below). This makes a lovely gift.
See the pattern here. 11 Pages, lots of how-to photos.

I made this quilt in one day, but writing the pattern took longer. That's okay, I love making the patterns.

My Mom and Dad bought this rocking horse 29 years ago when our first son (their first grand-baby) was born. Eventually Brian, David and 4 cousins rode this little guy.

I love the texture provided by these little wool ties.

Please spread my Patterns link around on Pinterest, FB, etc. Thanks so much!

"Hexie Quilts" blog hop starts here on June 1st! Book giveaway too.

Stephanie's Raw-Edge Applique

This is Stephanie Hughes' raw-edge applique quilt, shown on A Ditchin' Time. She uses buttons, beads and embroidery too. Good idea! She also sells Green Goose car trash bags on Etsy. Stephanie lives in Maryland.

Gail Griffin's New Raw-Edge Tile Quilt!

This is Gail Griffin's stunning new raw-edge tile quilt. I like how the circles and ovals keep your eye moving. Take a look at those flowers in the corners too. So artistic. Here's what she said about it:
I finished my raw edge tile quilt top and have attached a photo. It was a lot of fun to make and I enjoyed the process. It made me feel like an artist! There is an orange block, several Christmas blocks, a couple of red, white and blue blocks, and a block that shows all the states I've lived in. Great pattern - thank you!

Quilt Pattern for Fussy-Cutters!

Are you a "fussy-cutter?" I won't bother asking if you're a fabric collector. Duh! My new pattern has 18 pages of idea photos and how-to photos. This quilt is fun and easy to make. It's a great way to feature the "Best Of" your fabric stash. And it gives you another reason to shop for those awesome novelty fabrics.

This is a fun project for a guild workshop or small group. Participants can trade scraps. The way I like to do it is to have a community scrap table in the workroom where people can browse and take what they want. Take a look.
