Antique Cherry Tree of Life

This pretty antique cherry tree of life quilt from the Southeast USA is for sale on eBay today. The opening bid is $464. There isn't much info about the quilt and I don't know the seller. But I thought the photos were interesting. I like the cherries made from two colors. The ad says they are stuffed, but it doesn't really show in the photos.

Yesterday I went back to see the red and white quilts in NYC, this time with my Mom who also lives in CT. She's not a quilter, but she enjoyed it too. We had lunch there within view of the quilts and it was wonderful. The title "Infinite Variety" is so appropriate for this collection of quilts! We were told by a representative of the American Folk Art Museum that the book about this collection by Elizabeth V. Warren, Guest Curator will be available in a few years. Well, this will be worth waiting for.

I'll be getting my new computer in about 3 weeks, then I'll be back to regular daily posting. I miss visiting with you every day. I can't wait to show you lots of red and white quilt photos. I hope you are all well and doing lots of quilting!

Curious Irony

This quilt was auctioned on eBay a while back and I saved the photo because it's the type of improvisational quilt that really speaks to me. I love the wheel effect, the embroidered circles in the center of the wheels, the funny-shaped applique bits, and that garish "number two pencil" gold. Like cheddar, but brighter. It looks good next to black (and it doesn't say "Halloween" to me).

I think this quilt would look stunning as a wall quilt displayed with antiques. Maybe in a modern setting as well. I wouldn't want it on my bed though. It would feel alien, ikky even. Now what's with that? If you have any insight on this curious irony, please comment.

Note: See June Calender's comment. She hit the nail on the head.

Antique Quilt Offered on eBay for $5,000

This quilt was made by Melissa Gardner in 1881. We know this because she embroidered a label on the back of the quilt. The opening bid is $4,995. This looks like a museum quality quilt: classic color combination, fabrics still nice and bright, extensive quilting, expert workmanship. Wow!

Wouldn't Melissa be astonished to see her quilt selling for this price!

Old Ugly Quilt in Terrible Condition

Yes that's the title for this quilt auction on eBay! No chit chat about its rustic charm or bold design, just the facts. Haha. Opening price $19.99, no bids with 20 hours to go at the time of this writing. "It looks like a rag quilt as there are many different pieces of material used," according to the seller. It weighs over 5 pounds. Oh yeah, it smells too.
This seller-wannabe could use a little training in marketing! And in quilting.
