Blue Blue Selvage Quilt

Lynne in New England was inspired by the quilt on the cover of my book "Quilts from the Selvage Edge" when she made this stunning wall quilt. She has such an artistic eye. Look how she handles all those blues, and the little splashes of red, orange and yellow are just right. I also like how the quilting lines echo the selvages. The red cherry dot near the center of the quilt, the brown lacy strip in the southeast corner, and that sparkling black and white binding...oh this quilt has it all! Yayyy, Lynne!

Lynne made this selvage quilt for a Doll Quilt Swap. Here's what she had to say about it:

"There was a discussion on the swap forum about what some abbreviations mean. I didn't know what kwim was, so I proposed some funny possibilities... like Kisses With Important Messages... Kiwis With Impromptu Mangoes? Kangaroos With Illegal Machineguns? My swap partner (who's flickr name is quiltinkimmie) suggested "Kimmie's Wonderful In Michigan."So when I had this very long, very blank selvage I had a little idea... and wrote that on the edge of the selvage and sewed it in the quilt."

Selvage Tote for Lynne's Mom

Lynne in New England made this beautiful selvage tote bag as a birthday present for her Mom. They're both artists so you would expect this to be stunning...and it is! I love color gradation arrangements. She put some dark selvages in the middle so dirt won't show up on the bottom of the bag. Pretty smart idea. See the handles below.

Lynne had this funky pink button left over from another project. It's perfect here!

Millie likes the bag too (below). She has her own blog: http://www.darlingmillie.blogspot.com/. You should see all the cats in the list of Followers of Millie's blog!

Oh, yeah. Lynne has a blog too: http://www.patcherymenagerie.blogspot.com/. She shows more in-progress photos, including the zippered inner pocket. Nice job, Lynne!

Selvage Shopping Tote

Here's the latest from artist/quilter Lynne, of the Patchery Menagerie blog:
"I love tote bags. I've been using reusable canvas grocery bags for 17 years, but many stores now accept a bag you bring in, so I decided to make myself a shopping bag. Many of these new bags have a small loop on one side so the checkout person can keep the bag open. For general shopping, a big grocery-sized bag is too big, so this one is smaller and, of course, made from selvages."
Very cool, Lynne! I love how you arranged the colors, and put black and white at the top. This is so pretty; I think I would even remember to take it with me on shopping trips!
Be sure to visit Lynne's blog to see more about this bag, (including the giant polka dots on the inside) at: http://patcherymenagerie.blogspot.com/2009/03/shopping-bag-how-to.html. She has 2 posts on this bag, so be sure to see them both!

Lynne's Round Selvage Pot-holders

Lynne in New Hampshire has a bad case of the selvage bug! She recently went fabric shopping with her sister who is also a quilter, and bought 38 FQs checking each one to make sure it was cut from the selvage side.

Lynne is trained as an artist and she's been sewing since the fifth grade. You will love her blog: http://www.patcherymenagerie.blogspot.com/. She found the tutorial for the round pot-holders at "An Sew On:" http://ansewon.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2009-02-22T12%3A58%3A00-05%3A00&max-results=7

This pretty pot-holder in Lynne's kitchen will be a constant reminder that she could be sewing rather than cooking. Makes sense to me. Nice job, Lynne.

Zippered Selvage ipod Case

Lynne in New Hampshire just made her first selvage project, a little bag with 2 zippers. Here's her story:

"The bag is 7" x 10" and it is mainly for carrying around my iPod. This little bag is nifty. I can put the iPod in the front pocket, and my wallet and keys in the big pocket. It fits across my body, and the strap is long enough so I don't have to take it off if I have to go to the bathroom, for example. It's also light enough to wear under a coat. It's excellent for traveling, in that it's small enough to fit in a larger bag, and it protects my iPod. I can even turn it on and off without taking it out of the bag, so that's nice too."

Lynne blogged about it here: http://patcherymenagerie.blogspot.com/2009/02/selvage-bag.html. She took some photos during the process of making it that are very good. Nice job, Lynne!
