Selvages on Quilt Labels

Julie Sefton of Memphis, TN has been using selvages in her quilt labels and I think it's a terrific idea! In the label above, Julie credits the machine quilter as well as the fabric designer and manufacturer.

Visit Julie's blog at: http://www.quiltdivajulie.blogspot.com/. Julie's blog has been named one of "55 Rad Blogs" in the new issue Quilter's Home magazine. Yayyy, Julie! (By "rad" they mean funny, interesting and easy to read, in case you were wondering.)

This is what Julie had to say about the label below:

It's not pieced onto the back but stitched on so that it will be quilted into
the quilt. I used a Sharpie to write on the freezer-papered fabric, removed the
paper and heat set the printing, pieced a bit, pressed some more, and finished
with selvages (giving me woven edges and no turning under).

How clever is that? Good thinking, Julie!

Awww, 4th anniversary. Happy anniversary Eric and Lauren!

New Quilt Inspired by Gwen and Freddy's Book

Quilt Diva Julie of Memphis, TN made this gorgeous basket quilt called "Sing the Sun Down." She was inspired by the new book "Freddy and Gwen Collaborate Again" by Gwen Marston and Freddy Moran (reviewed here a few days ago). Look at those basket handles, and I love the colors. Oh, Julie - this is a beauty!
Greetings to all our visitors from Spain and Canada today!

Necktie Pillows - A Keepsake from Quilt Diva Julie

I am so excited to bring you this idea from "QuiltDiva" Julie Sefton of Memphis, TN. She made these pillows for the children and grandchildren of a lawyer who passed away. What an excellent memorial keepsake! He had some pretty interesting ties too. I love how she put them together in a playful improvisational way. I plan to make some of these. Thanks, Julie!

Julie is planning her next necktie project, so keep an eye on her blog: www.quiltdivajulie.blogspot.com.

Julie Sefton's Elegant Gift

Julie Sefton used selvages from the beautiful backing of this quilt to make a 4 x 6 card insert. The card will be a special keepsake for the recipient of this quilt. Inside the card she'll add a haiku written about the quilt, the name of the quilt ("Bittersweet"), and "Gifted Christmas 2008." What an elegant idea!

Make a cup of tea or coffee and take a look at Julie's blog: http://www.quiltdivajulie.blogspot.com/. There is so much to see at this "thinking quilter's" blog. She even quotes my favorite doctor, Dr. Seuss. "Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You."
