Patriotic Dye Shirt DIY

Last month we showed you how to make this adorable star shirt using our iron-on sheets. So, this month, we thought we would remind you of all the cool patriotic projects you can make with our fabric dye.

This flag-inspired shirt is simple to make with red, blue, and glitter tumble dye. If you can't get your hands on the kit, you can purchase each color separately and cut simple star shapes out of sticker paper.

This video gives you great step-by-step instructions.

DIY Patriotic Star Shirt Using Iron-on Sheets

As promised, here is a step-by-step tutorial on how to use our iron-on full sheets. This project is perfect for summertime! There are so many possibilities with our full sheets because you can cut whatever shape you want. But, today our example uses stars.

First, gather your supplies. You will need a hard, flat surface, article to iron on (like a shirt), something to trace (like stars), a pen, scissors, full iron-on sheets and an iron.

Trace the shape you want onto the iron-on backing. We traced stars that we printed and cut out of cardstock paper.

Cut your shapes out. We used scissors this time. But, if you have a cutting machine, that works great too.

Now, place the shapes how you want them. We did one layer at a time.

Press firmly for 15-20 seconds. Pressing is different than ironing because you don't move the iron around. Instead you pick the iron up and place it in a different area. These keeps your design from shifting.

Finally, after letting it cool for another 15-20 seconds, you can gently remove the backing and reveal your awesome design. We recommend turning your completed shirt inside out and ironing again.

Two more cool things about this design are you can fit a bunch of stars on a sheet to make a couple shirts PLUS the red and blue iron-ons are on sale today. Hurry though. The red, white and blue sale ends tomorrow!

DIY Red, White & Blue Banner - Summer Decor

Memorial Day is right around the corner. What a great time remember those who have gone before and start thinking about summer.

For us, getting ready for summer means decorating! Think how fun this red, white and blue banner would be adoring your mantel or hanging up at your next barbecue.

It was simple to make with our canvas banner kit, vintage fabrics, and iron-on sheets. We cut basic star shapes out of our red and blue iron-on full sheets.

The full sheets and canvas banner kits are on sale this week and we will show you how to use them Thursday. Check back soon!

4th of July Party Decorations

The 4th of July is one my favorite holidays, and there's nothing like bringing out the patriotic colors for some summer crafting. 'Tis the season for BBQs, so I thought it would be fun use the reds and navy's from the new Cheery Hello collection and last year's Summer Woods collection to whip up some festive party decor.

The sign is super simple to make. I was inspired by this pillow. I typed up and printed out the words in design software on my computer to make the basis of the sign. If you'd rather not go digital, you can always use alphabet stickers for the same effect. After the words are printed out, I added a few ribbon stickers and cut-out stars (don't forget the rhinestones!) To finish, place it in a frame -- my frame rotates and it's reusable, making it perfect for table centerpieces all year round.

Sitting pretty next to the sign is a utensil holder... a.k.a. patterned paper and ribbon wrapped around a short glass vase. It doesn't get easier than that, folks.

Happy crafting and happy 4th!

Firework Scrapbook Layout

Hello! It's Kelly here today sharing a layout combining the Forever Sassy collection with some elements from the Summer Party Pad for a fun patriotic theme.

I started by covering the right half of my page with patterned paper after spattering a little paint along the left side, and then stitched it down. I secured a 4x6 card from the Noteworthy collection to the top center of the layout, and scattered my embellishments along the left of the page before layering on a few labels for journaling and my photo.

I added my title cluster to the bottom right of the page using a couple labels and an overlay along with some letter stickers. To finish up, I used some scraps from the Summer Party Pad to make my borders along the top and bottom edges.

Thanks for stopping by!
Kelly

Supplies

Happy Independence Day from SEI!

Happy 4th of July!

Independence Day, done right!

**To start off a lot of people have been asking if the new lines will be used in a Club SEI kit. The answer is yes. Christmas Mint will be featured in November's kit and Winter Song will be used in December's kit. Moravia will not be in a kit but will be available as an add-on. You can tell your local scrapbook supplier to pick it up for you at CHA next month or order online at shopsei.com in August. Now onto our project.

We wanted to give you enough time to plan for the 4th of July. I love this holiday! There's nothing about it not to love
. One tradition that I've heard a lot of families have is wearing matching shirts. We have come up with a great idea to customize your own 4th of July shirts in an inexpensive way.

Did you know that SEI carries a product called Tumble Dye? It's a dye that is sprayed on and then heat set, and it dyes a lot of different surfaces. It's non-toxic, and easier to clean up than other dyes - no boiling water, pots & pans, nasty chemicals, or stained hands! That makes it a fantastic summer project to do with your kids or grandkids. And it's only $3 a bottle! We used Raggedy Ann Red & Blueberry to create the shirts below. I know the tie-dyed look might not be your favorite everyday look, but it's so fitting for the 4th of July. Here is the project along with instructions:

These cute girls belong to Lee Tibbitts

Sheryl, who works here at SEI, made these shirts.
• You can use an old white shirt that you have around the house (even one that may have a stain, you can cover it).
• First, to make
the stars on the shoulder, Sheryl cut stars out of scrap paper and laid them on the shirt. She sprayed the Blueberrry Tumble Dye all around the cut outs, and then removed them, leaving white stars behind.
Next, to achieve the "stripes", Sheryl gathered the shirt on a diagonal to create loose folds and sprayed the exposed fabric with Raggedy Ann Red Tumble Dye.

That's it! All in all, Sheryl was able to make six children's shirts, using one bottle of the red dye and a half bottle of the blue.

While you're here, tell us - what are your 4th of July traditions?
