A Fall Inspired Project from GDT Janice

Hi, everyone! Here in Texas, cooler weather is finally hitting us and it has inspired me to update the traditional paper pumpkin. :)

Here is what I came up with:
Isn't is cute?  ;)  I love the idea of making a few of these in different colors and sizes and displaying either as a center piece or through the house for some fall decor.  :)

The How-to
I started out with a 4 1/4" by 11" piece of orange card stock that I heat embossed a pattern onto (Gina K Designs stamp set, Whimsical Autumn).

First, using your Scor-Pal, score along every 1/2" mark along the length of the card stock.

Then, turn it width-wise and score at these marks: 1/2", 1 1/4", 1 1/2", 2 3/4", 3", and 3 3/4".

On the surface of your Scor-Mat, cut off triangular sections from both ends of your scored card stock using a craft knife and ruler as shown below.  Start at first corner and cut diagonally stopping at third scored line down (the line scored at 1 1/2").  From there, position your ruler and cut to the top of the next 1/2" line continuing that cutting pattern all the way across.

Do the same technique to both the top and bottom of the scored card stock.

Turn the piece over and using a bent tool, press and create a rounded shape on each section of the piece by pressing firmly over a foam pad in vertical stokes.

Turn the piece vertically and create a round shape using the same technique as above.

Place stripes of Scor-Tape on the inside edge of each section.

Take the paper backing off and gently adhere the flaps together as show below.

Cut a 1" circle and glue to cuter opening. This will be the bottom of your pumpkin.

Cut a 1" circle and using a craft knife and your Scor-Pal mat, cut some cross-hairs about 3/4" long. This will be adhered to the top of the pumpkin and allow for a stem to fit inside.

Adhere the green circle to the top of the pumpkin using hot glue.  For my pumpkin, I added a branch from my back yard to be the stem, hot glued a couple of Spellbinder's Foliage leaves, and added a fun curly vine for extra flair.

I hope you've enjoyed this little tutorial!  Comment below with pics or links of your cute paper pumpkin decor--I'd love to see what you come up with!

Have a wonderful day!

Keep Calm with Guest Designer Janice

Hi, everyone!  Janice here with a fun "on trend" card to show you.  :)  Bright neon colors mixed with the still very popular chevron stripe, makes for one super fun card!

Isn't that fun? :)

To make the chevron strip that I placed on my card, I used the Scor-Buddy to score a 1" x 5 1/2" piece of cardstock.

I went ahead and used a larger piece of cardstock to make it a bit easier to score but I only used the first 1" of the paper.  I scored at the 1/2" mark vertically at each 1/2" mark horizontally as shown in the pic below.

I forgot to take a pic of how I drew the lines to create the chevron pattern (sorry!) but it was quite simple!  Take a ruler and draw a line from one corner of the squares created then up the other side to the corner of the square right next to it.  Do that for each set of side by side squares as shown in the picture above.  After I drew the pattern I colored it in and cut the excess cardstock off! Easy peasy!  ;)

Next, I cut a 3 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of white card stock and lightly scored it down the center at 2 3/4".

I then lined up the end of my lightly scored center line and one of the opposite corners of the piece and scored it.

Next, I scored at 1/2" intervals on both sides of the initial diagonal line as shown below.

Next, I turned the piece to the other corner and scored in the same way to that side.

The next step was to adhere my chevron strip and put my card together!

You can use this technique of making a scored grid to make bigger, wider chevron stripes for any project!  :)

My card uses a Hero Arts stamp for the greeting. I couldn't find the name of the set but on the package it says: Hero Arts CL650.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Locking Card by Janice

Hi, Everyone!  Janice here bringing you a quick and easy way to spice up your card making!  ;)  Sometimes I get in a rut and all my cards start looking the same.  I started thinking of a way to change things up a bit when my eyes landed on a dowel rod in my craft room--boom, it came to me!  :)

Here is what I came up with.  It may not look that different at first glance but it is not your ordinary card.  Check it out.

At first glance, it seems like all the embellishments are on the top of the card as per usual.  Take a look at these photos to see how it is a bit different.

 The "embellished" wand slides out!

So fun, right!?  I basically created a little wand that keeps the card closed, tucked away in a pocket created using my Scor-Pal!  :)

Here is how I did it.
First, cut your card base the size and shape you want.  I used Spellbinders Labels Eight for my base and Labels Seventeen for my layering.  Using the Scor-Pal, score 1/2" down on one of the Labels eight.  Later you will put the two pieces together to create your card base.

Glue your layers together and cut a small square out of the three layers.  I used Spellbinders Classic Squares LG (the smallest die) to create my cutout.

Cut a strip of card stock that is 1/2" by 2" and score at the 1/2" mark, the 3/4" mark, the 1 1/4" mark and the 1 1/2" mark.

Fold at the score lines to form this shape.

Adhere here two card bases at the lines scored earlier to create card.  Stick the 1/2" by 2" scored piece through the square hole.  Put Scor-Tape on the inside flap.

Close card and press firmly.  In this picture, I added another die cut.  I used Spellbinders Labels Thirty-Two to create a fun frame.

And here is the pocket section fully adhered to card base.

I used a 1/4" diameter dowel rod to create my rod.  I decorated it with some ribbon and used a Spellbinders Hatpin Bezel to create the top of my wand!  :)  The cute xoxo stamp is from Flourishes's "Tiny Flowers and Tags" stamp set.  I glued my white flower onto my wand using hot glue and only glued down the petal closest to the bow so that it wouldn't impede it from sliding in the pocket.

I hope you enjoyed a fun new twist to your regular card!

Have a wonderful day!

Teacher Gift with Janice

Hi, everyone! Janice here bringing you another easy to make teacher gift idea.  :) Check it out!

Tutorial
First, cut the outside cover to 8 1/2" x 6" and the inside cover to 9 1/2" x 6".  Using your Scor-Pal, score as shown below in my diagram.

Here are a few step by step pictures:

Score the inside cover at the marks shown below.

Fold at the score marks as shown here.

Score the outside cover as shown below.

Fold it along both score marks.

Place Scor-Tape along the inside edge of inside cover as shown below.

Peel off Scor-Tape backing and adhere to outside cover so that the pen holder section is raised.

Close the cover firmly along score lines once the inside cover is in place.

Glue notepad and sticky note pad in place. Place pen in pen holder area.

Decorate the outside cover as you wish!  This vintage school-themed paper line is from Authentique and I used Spellbinders Labels 18 to create my "notes" label.  The stamp is from a GinaK stamp set called "Organize it!"

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope this tutorial has inspired you to create your own easy to make notebook w/pen holder!  Have a wonderful day!

Back to School with Janice Whiting

Hi, everyone!  Janice here again bringing you a great first of the year teacher gift!  My sweet kiddos will be starting school here in a few weeks so we've had school shopping on our minds lately.  I thought about what we could give to our new teachers on the first day that could be both practical and cute, and I came up with this sweet and simple post it note holder.

I first started out with a 9 1/4 by 9 1/4 square piece of patterned card stock. Using your Scor-Pal, score and cut it according to the diagram below.

Here is the actual box cut and scored.

Next step is to fold in and adhere the side flaps.

With all flaps adhered.

At this point, use a circle punch to cut a semi-circle shape out of one side.

Now, glue all the side tabs to the outside of box walls as shown below.

And your post it note holder is done!

Side view.

And, voila!  A super easy and super cute teacher gift idea!

Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my latest Scor-Pal project!  Have a wonderful day!
