New Furnishings

We finally saw some money from the insurance company for the robbery.  I really wanted to take some of that money and create a lasting piece to our house...sort of a healing thing.
I've been looking at reproduction  pieces and knew we needed a good sized bookshelf, so last weekend, we bought this.
It's very sturdy and well built.  Plus, the shelves are big enough for bigger books.  It's a work in progress, but I like it.  It's funny, in my last two houses, my walls were painted darker colors.  It's hard to get used to the cream.

At the same place, I had my eye on some dry sinks.  They were reproductions too and quite pricey.  So, after my hair appointment yesterday, I scurried over to one of my favorite antique shops.  They were having major sales.  In the barn, a lovely older gent sells furniture.  He was giving a 20% discount.  I told him about my yearning for a dry sink and he had two...both with burled wood.  This is the one I chose...for about $500 less than the repro!
It's just beautiful.  He said it was made in the 1800s and I just love it!  I like the storage to hold my spinning supplies.  Now, the wall above it needs a large piece.  I'm thinking a trip over the the Firecracker Kid and shopping around!  So, the decor is coming along.

My husband and I are planning a decent sized vegetable garden this spring.  We are going to build some raised beds and I hope to add a couple of dwarf apple trees as well.  I envision this:

Time to send for seed catalogs!

I'm making headway on the vintage urn.  Urn and flowers are done and the hit or miss is almost half done...I'll give an update later this week!
Monday's coming......

Garden Goodbyes and Yard Sale Staging

Things are chugging along swimmingly with our up and coming move.  Last weekend, we had the home inspection for the new digs.  What fun to spend an hour or so poking around the house, investigating all the nook and crannies.  We fell in love with it all over again!

Back at the other house, packing begins in earnest, with gathering stuff for a yard sale this weekend.  The front hall has become our staging area!
This is actually just a portion.  It's too hot to gather tonight...and tomorrow promises to be hotter.

Because it's so hot, I've been very lenient with my students...we drew our pretend creatures for our "create a creature" adaptation project today, and that's about it!  We kept the lights out, a small fan going, and took it easy!  Twenty-six kids in one hot room...yikes!

I'm filling boxes as fast as I get them.  I am thankful that I am an organized person!  We had our mortgage meeting last night and we should get final approval next week.  They are also working on having the closings on the same day...good, because they thought the new property would close a week later, meaning that we'd have to rent off of our buyer for a week to the tune of $700.  Ouch!  Anyway, hopefully we'll get our wish and close both places on our 4th anniversary.  Nice!

My little garden here looks great...with irises and peonies blooming.
I'm excited to plan a new garden!  But, sad to leave such well-developed peonies!

On a sad note, my car really and truly died.  That's the only bad news of late.  Apparently the radiator was leaking into the engine.  Our mechanic thinks it's not worth fixing at 3K.  I'd have to agree!  We'll wait a bit to get through the house stuff, then get a new car.  So...new job...new state...new house...new car....new gardens...new cat....geesh, I hope that's it!!

I have been a bit lax in leaving comments on all of your blogs.  I am reading all of them faithfully, but sometimes I am a tad bit overwhelmed!  I can't wait to just chill!!
Stay cool!
