Number 1 Wonderful Father

 Welcome friends and visitors! I had some fun playing with some new to me Tim Holtz stamps and Framelits set this weekend, and made my father in law this Father's Day card.

 I started with Heavystock that I dipped into inky puddles--Frayed Burlap and Iced Spruce Distress Oxide pressed onto my craft mat and spritzed with water. I wanted to use the old typing machine as a background image this time, so I inked it with Vintage Photo ink and spritzed the stamp with water before making the impression. I was purposefully going for a blurred image, but you can see how crisp and clean this stamp inks up in my post here.

I even got out my sewing machine for this one! You can see I need some practice with my stitches! I couldn't figure out what to do with those loose ends, so I stapled them with the Tiny Attacher. I colored the staples with Teakwood alcohol ink and scribbled over them with Ground Espresso Distress crayon for the ultimate grunge. I'm sure my FIL will have a great big laugh at my wonky stitches!

Now it was time to layer up this handsome Paper Doll over some ephemera. First I gave him and the Accelerator ad from the Collector Layers set a random coat of Distress Crazing medium and allowed that to dry (well, I did speed it up a bit with my heat tool). I colored both pieces with Distress crayons smoothing and blending with my finger.  I sanded a second Layer and colored it with Frayed Burlap and Ground Espresso inks.

 I inked up one of the stamps from Ticket Booth with Ground Espresso Archival ink and die cut it with the coordinating Framelit. It's colored with Fired Brick and Frayed Burlap inks and Ground Espresso crayon. A Christmas Quote Chip works perfectly as a portion of my sentiment. I just cut out the word "wonderful" and used a portion of the rest to give importance to a Chit Chat sticker. To age them, I scribbled the edges with  Ground Espresso crayon and gave them a coat of Distress Vintage Collage Medium. Since I dried them with my heat tool, I got some nice crazing-like cracks. Perhaps you can see them in the photo below.

A Vial Label cut in half and a Numbers Remnant Rub were aged with Ground Espresso ink and stapled to the edge to balance out the collage. I love the way the Remnant Rubs resist the ink and that the crayon gives just the right amount of grunge for this guy card. I layered the panel over textured red card  and that over another sanded Classic Kraft Stock panel. Both panels were blended with Ground Espresso ink.

Wonderful Dad Father's Day Card

Hello friends! It's that time again, the Funkie girls are revealing their takes on the current challenge 'Letter Perfect' at Frilly and Funkie. The challenge theme was chosen by me and here's the lowdown:

"According to Merriam Webster, 'letter perfect' is defined as "correct to the smallest detail". We're not asking you to be immaculate or flawless; we just want to see letters or words on your vintage or shabby chic project. They don't have to be the focus, but be sure we can see them!"

In need of a Father's Day card for my husband, I chose to make one using my latest purchase from The Funkie Junkie Boutique. I instantly fell head over heels with the vintage typewriter and clock diagrams in Tim Holtz' Inventor 1 stamp set. The detail is amazing and even with such detail, the image stamps crisp and clean. The typewriter has letters on it, and immediately came to mind when I thought of this challenge.

I started with Heavystock Mixed Media card and pounced it in puddles of watery Frayed Burlap and Iced Spruce Distress Oxides. I stamped the typewriter in Potting Soil Archival ink, and made an extra impression on scrap. I fussy cut the scrap, cutting just the typewriter to use as a mask. I place the mask over the typewriter and proceeded to do a monoprint using Tim's Cargo stencil. I blended Black Soot DOX over the back side of the stencil and spritzed with water to make the print. Inking the reverse side is important, because since you're dealing with letters you want it to face the right way. Tim's got a great tutorial on the monoprint technique using his stencils here, if you don't already know how to do it. I do mine a little differently, but it all comes out the same way.

I couldn't wait to use Tim's Ticket Booth Framelits for the first time. I used one of the dies to make part of my sentiment. For my Distress paint resist, I used his Type Lower Cling Foam stamps to spell out and stamp 'Dad' in Antique Linen Distress paint. When that was dry , I blended over with Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap DOX and splashed with water. I edged with Ground Espresso ink and added Remnant Rubs - Tiny Text and one from an old set all chopped up into little pieces. I grunged up an Index Clip with Rocky Road Baked Texture and added another old Remnant Rub inside.

'Wonderful' is cut from Classic Kraft Stock and a Pondering Words, Thin die. I sanded it, and blended with Ground Espresso ink. I backed it with a scrap that was colored with Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap DOX, adhering with Distress Collage Medium Matte.

I matted this panel on a panel of Classic Kraft Stock, and then again on a panel of Heavystock that I wrapped with Design Tape. This sweet typewriter text is from the Journey set.

I know it's hard to see 'Dad' on my card in my photos, but it's pretty obvious in real life. Geez, I hope my hubby sees it!
