A Gleam In His Eye

Happy Saturday afternoon! Yikes! I haven't had a chance to use Mr Bones yet, so I just had to squeak in one more Halloween project.

I made the background a while ago by embossing Ornate from Tim Holtz' Ornate and Lace set. I just swiped it with shimmery layers of Prima paste wax. This goes from being grungy to glamorous depending on how you turn it in the light. Use your imagination here; I couldn't get it on camera.

I love Mr Bones all decked out in his moldy but shimmery top hat. I randomly heat embossed with clear powder, then Seth Apter's Dirty Sand. The actual skull is colored with Distress Oxide ink.

His one good eye gleams with DecoArt Liquid Glass.

I love all this texture! Great texture from Tim's Laurel Impresslit and some char on the stamped document from Crackle Paint.

I added some faux stitching to the distressed background panel. And that concludes the Halloween crafting for this year!

Happy Halloween!

He Was Spellbound

Sara Emily Barker http://sarascloset1.blogspot.com/ He Was Spellbound Alcohol Lift Ink Inventor 1 Gear Head Halloween 1

Hello friends! I enjoyed some much needed crafty time this weekend, and finally gave Tim Holtz Alcohol Link Ink a try. I've had it for a while, but truth be told, I was just a little afraid of trying something so different. My card features two of Tim's stamps sets: Inventor 1 and School Desk. I inked white yupo paper with alcohol inks and allowed it to dry overnight. I applied the inks by first dipping and dragging the yupo through puddles of alcohol ink diluted with 91% alcohol, and then by dropping individual drops of a contrasting ink on the panel. Using my Stamp Platform, I lifted the color with typewriter and typeface stamps from each of the stamp sets. I blotted the ink off the panel with a paper towel and buffed with a clean cloth. How easy is this?! Why haven't I tried this before? After all, the simple instructions are listed right on the packaging.

I layered my background over two sheets of  sanded Classic Kraft Stock. Then I layered a vintage spelling book page, a scrap of kraft stock, some thread, a pile of gears, a Mixed Media #3 die cut and a Halloween Paper Doll Ancestor with piercing eyes. I cut the gears from kraft stock and black card using Tim's Gear Head Thinlits die, sanded the kraft and layered them up for dimension. I used the large gear collage, cut off what I didn't want and added a few individual gear die cuts.

I further distressed the spelling book page and typeface die cut with Old Paper and Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide inks and Caramel alcohol ink. I scuffed the Paper Doll and Halloween Quote Chip and blended them with Vintage Photo Distress ink.

I love how clear even the finest of images lift off using the Lift ink. I think I have fallen in love with alcohol inks all over again! I hope you enjoyed my first experiment with Alcohol Lift Ink and inspired to give it a try!

Happy crafting!

Sweetly Creepy Halloween Party Favors

Sara Emily Barker http://sarascloset1.blogspot.com/ Sweetly Creepy Halloween Party Favors with Tim Holtz 3D Embossing Stampers Anonymous Entomology 1

H1! I had my first play with Tim Holtz Burst Impresslits 3D Embossing Folder a couple of weeks ago, and I was undecided on how I would use the bursts I created. Then my long wished-for Entomology stamps and Gift Card Bag dies arrived, and I was in the business of making some Halloween party favors.

I die cut the gift card bags out of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock and blended them with Antique Linen Distress Oxide, Frayed Burlap, Hickory Smoke, and Ground Espresso Distress inks. I watered down and splattered on some of the inks left on my craft mat using my Splatter Brush. I later did the same with Black Soot Distress Crayon I had left on my mat.

I stamped the script and a few of the bugs from the Entomology set in Black Soot ink on both of what will be the front and the backs of the envelopes. The pockets were assembled and glued with Distress Collage Medium Matte. I love the detailing on the stamps, but these creepy insects look a little too realistic for my comfort. It's a little disconcerting to see those bugs squeezing their way out between the seams of the bag, isn't it?

Each of the bursts are made a little differently from each other. I used the de-bossed side of one, just to see how it would turn out. Each was colored and textured with Antique Linen oxide, Black Soot crayon, and Distress Crazing; I just varied the order of application, so they look a bit different. I love to experiment with my products, but really need to keep better records. To top off the Bursts, I cut the ring portion off some cheapo dollar store spider rings.

Cheesecloth is left over from a previous Halloween, but I distinctly recall spritzing it with Hickory Smoke and Wilted Violet Distress Spray Stains. My hands were stained for days!

I sprayed a length of twine in the same color to tie on the Halloween Typed Tokens.  The tokens were given their spooky look with Mushroom Alcohol ink and Black Soot crayon.  Everything was glued down with the collage medium--my go-to glue for adhering everything from paper to metal.
