Inchies Need to Make a Comeback

When I saw the inspiration card in my Pins on Pinterest, I already knew I was going to love to make this card.  I was totally right.  Those who have been in cardmaking for a while remember inchies. To create the inchies for this card I did a bit of ink smooshing along with a white embossed image on top.  Then I just cut 1 x 1-inch pieces.  I didn’t even pay attention to the orientation when I placed them on my square card.  You don’t need to.  You could totally do this with patterned paper scraps as well.

Ink Swiping but With an Embossing Powder Twist

I am doing a bit of ink swiping, though this time it is with Versamark Ink. Then just add embossing paper for something a bit different. I do have to admit the card I made looked like 3 eyebrows once I added the black embossing powder, but I was happy with the card when I was done. I don’t have a lot of colored embossing powders, but if you do…wow all the things you can do with this one. This is a technique I can see using quite a bit in the future.

Making a Shaped Card Is Something Fun to Try

Not sure this lived up to the Pinterest Card I used for inspiration, but I love trying out new products. This time I was using my new smaller brushes that work well for small stenciled areas. It did what I wanted on this card helping to highlight the embossing, but it did get into the grooves too. That is ok. I did use a few bits from my stash, which turned out great, but I think I went a little overboard.

Let's Sand That Cardstock for a Different Look

Did you know if you sanded cardstock that has a white core, it will show through? Well, now you know. This will give your cardstock a different look after you have embossed it. This is just another way to stretch your supplies. I really like having this option. You then could even rub another ink color over top as well to give more variation. The possibilities! Hope you try this card technique when you get a chance.

Emboss Resist Using a Kid's Watercolor Set

Not every card making technique needs the fanciest of supplies. Today’s card I revisited a staple how-to, embossing resist. I also did this quickly using a kids watercolor set that I bought my son probably 7 years ago or so. It still has plenty of use left, so I thought I might as well use it. I love it since it had some bright colors in it that would match the washi tape I was going to use as the focal images. I took the washi tape, layered it on cardstock then used a die to cut out the images to make them look like postage stamps. I think this worked pretty well. 😉

Faux Wax Seals

I would do the triple heat embossing along with sinking in a red rubber stamp all the time back in my early days of card making. I have been eyeing all the wax seal products out there for some time. I was contemplating adding wax seals to my growing collection. But I thought of this old technique. I tried it out. Loved how it turned out. Now I just saved myself some money because I can make these faux wax seals. I hope you find this helpful.

Foil your Stamped Images

This was something I HAD to try. Saw Simon Hurley use embossed images. After the image was embossed I then foiled them. I used my mini Minc machine but any laminator would work. I found the best setting was the lowest when I was doing this. I don't think this is as great a result as with other options out there for foiling. However, if you are like me and are not ready to invest in a foiling system this will work. I am so happy with the results.

I have a video trying this out over on YouTube. Just go here.

Scraps Card Tissue Paper Edition

I believe all paper is up for adding to a card. So I decided to explore a bit with tissue paper. I wanted the crumpled look. I then decided why not dry emboss the card front with an embossing folder AND embossing powder. It was a double emboss if you will. This made a great background. I kept the focal point pretty minimal with a white embossed image/sentiment. For a bit extra, I added on some prima flowers. I did add another layer of patterned paper under the double embossed panel. I loved how it just matched the colors. More scraps from my scrap bin used! Yay!

See the video for this card here. It is only a minute long... 😃

Using Up Scraps from my Scrap Bin: April

Each month I try to make sure I am using scraps out of my scrap bin to make a card. This month I tore up some scrap pattern paper, layering it with a glue stick. For the focal point, I added an embossed damask emblem (at least that is what I think it's called). Super easy card anyone can do.

Alter Patterned Paper: Stamping and Embossing

Revisiting how you can change your patterned paper to fit your project. Today I added stamped/colored images along with some heat embossing. This created the paper that I really wanted to have for this Birthday Card. If you love glittered elements or foiled patterned paper, remember you can use what you have in your stash. Just add those elements you love. Hope this gives you a whole new outlook on that patterned paper stash.

Check out the video for a quick less than 2 minute recap on this card below.

One Sheet Wonder: Making a Batch of Cards

I am using a one-sheet wonder "recipe" if you will for a 6 x 6 piece of paper. I found the card sketches and the one-sheet wonder from a blog called Poetic Artistry. It is a post from 2008. Now, this was to be used with double-sided patterned paper. Didn't realize that. I had made my own patterned paper using emboss resist. So I just brought in another pattern that had neutrals (black & white). I also after completing the first four cards...made a "stepped up" version. The video for the process of making the background and two of the cards can be found on my YouTube Channel. I will put a link below for the video with the rest of the cards as well. Have a great day!

The post from Poetic Artistry can be found here.

Simple Slimeline Card Using Cardstock Scraps

Today I am using up some cardstock scraps. If you tend to hoard all those scraps you have to find ways to get them used. I am using mine today to make a background for a slimline card. I combined that with some Unity Stamp Co. Stamps and Wow embossing powder. For the sentiment "Do more of What Makes You Happy", I used a clear sticker from a pack of these stickers from the Paper Studio. Easy Peasy!

You can see how I made this card over on YouTube here.

Combined Card Challenge Leads to ....

I decided to combine MOJO 302 sketch and
the inspiration challenge from The Curtain Call
Inspiration Challenge.  I am not sure I am thrilled
with the result but it's what I came up with.

I did not have nautical themed stamps, so I
focused on the purse from the inspiration collage.

I stamped my image on blue cardstock and
paper pieced that onto the image I stamped and
embossed in gold.  I really wanted the purse handle
to look like a chain.
The mesh at the bottom adds texture and I do like
the addition of the gold buckle at the bottom.

The yellow star adds a bit of pop.  All the paper came
from my stash of leftovers.

I used StazOn in black and Ranger's Adirondak in
Jet Black to emboss with.

Simple Valentine

Here are a couple of pictures of some simple Valentine Day cards I made a few months ago.  The stamps and die are from Papertrey ink.  I embossed the background with a cuttlebug embossing folder.  I used Stazon's black ink, added a couple of stick on gems, and Voila'. All done.  Enjoy!
