Wild Card - TMS #600

Hello! I hope all is well in your world and I hope you're ready to play along with a new sketch at Tuesday Morning Sketches. This weeks sketch is designed by Melissa Craig and I think you're really going to like it. My card was made in a hurry, so if you don't have a lot of time to craft this sketch is for you. You can find the sketch and the design team inspiration on the challenge blog HERE. We hope you will join us this week!

The zebra image is from the Zany Zebra stamp set by Stampin' Up! (it's retiring soon) and it was lightly colored pink with Copic markers. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day.

Wild Wishes Card

Happy Tuesday! It's time for a new challenge at Tuesday Throwdown and this week our theme is Exotic Animals. It was a lot of fun getting a little wild with these Jungle Animal Faces images provided by our sponsor MyGrafico. There were several animals to choose from and I used the panda, giraffe and zebra. We would love for you to join us this week in our Exotic Animal Challenge. You have until mid-day next Monday, July 11th to play along. Click here for all the challenge details and wild design team inspiration.

When I first started making cards I loved using zebra patterned paper. It's been awhile since I've made anything with it, so I was happy to see this challenge. To create my card I adhered the giraffe paper by Bella BLVD and the zebra paper by The Paper Studio to a piece of black cardstock and then adhered directly onto the white card base. For the offset white focal panel I decided to add some gold texture paste by Heidi Swapp using the Dot Fade stencil by Tim Holtz. The images were printed, colored with Copic markers and punched using a 1 1/2" circle punch. The images were then layered with a 1 3/4" scallop circle with black cardstock. I used the computer to print the sentiment and that's it.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to see your Exotic Animal creation in the gallery at Tuesday Throwdown

Violets and Polka Dots Card

Sometimes you just have to make a card using your favorite colors and things, so that's what I did. Purple and Green are my favorites and I love zebra patterns, polka dots and violets. The layout for this Violets and Polka Dots Card comes from the Stella Says Sketch challenge #310 at the Catch The Bug Blog. On the green side I debated over using gingham or polka dots but decided to play along at Cards und More to use dots. The zebra paper is from The Paper Studio and the green is from the Amy Tangerine collection by American Crafts. I colored the violet image by Bugaboo digital stamps with my Copic markers and used a circle die cut for the shape. The white off center scalloped border is by K & Company and the final detail was adding the three candy dots. I decided not to use a sentiment on this card to keep it open to several possible occasions. Well, thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Happy 18th Birthday Card

My niece is turning eighteen this Friday and I decided to make her birthday card including the number eighteen to celebrate this significant occasion. I used the sketch at Mojo Monday for the card layout. The patterned papers are by Glitz Designs with a strip of black glitter tape by Recollections in the middle. For the sentiment I masked the word holiday from a happy happy happy holiday stamp and replaced it with birthday. I cut the number 18 using my Cricut machine and added some loose sugar cube glitter by Martha Stewart to the white numbers. The eighteen is accented by a bling circle by Recollections.  Now, I used the eight in the same way the Cricut machine cut it, but does it look upside down to you? I thought about turning it with the small end up but went with how it was cut. The accent cardstock colors are Pool Party and Lost Lagoon. That's it! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Shamrock Bear St. Patrick's Day Card

Hello! I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. This month is flying by and I realized I still need to make a few more St. Patrick's Day cards. It's been awhile since I've played along with a Stella Says Sketch challenge at Catch The Bug. So, this afternoon I made this Shamrock Bear St. Patrick's Day Card using the Theodore - Shamrocks Bugaboo Image. I colored the image with my Copic markers and used several shades of green to give it a nice St. Patty's Day feel. The zebra pattern is a stamp by Stampabilities and I used Garden Green ink by Stampin' Up!. Well, enjoy the rest of your night and thanks for stopping by!!!

Simple and easy.... a Less is More Zebra Flourish Birthday Card. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

One Year Blogiversary

Hooray! Today marks the one year blogiversary for Savvy Handmade Cards. So, today I am celebrating 42,000 page views, 65 card making enthusiasts (followers), and this makes the 301st post. Now, let me tell you a little story.... last year when I started this blog I had never looked up/searched for other handmade card blogs. I had no idea the vast amount of fun you could have creating cards for challenges. When I first started making cards I immediately started submitting my work to be published, not realizing the competition was steep. The only source of inspiration at the time was from published magazines. Needless to say, I had a quick reality check when I found the world of online card blogs. There are many amazingly creative people posting inspiration on a daily basis. Thanks to everyone who have left comments on my creations and chose to follow my blog. I enjoy sharing my creativity with you and I look forward to another creative year!!! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

Wild and Irish Card

Hello! I'm loving all the green and St. Patrick's Day challenges right now! I think green is a fun and happy colour. Don't let the sentiment on my card fool you... Yes, I'm Irish and NO I don't consider myself "wild" but I did have fun creating this Wild and Irish Card. I bought the Studio G stamp set last year after the holiday was over and until now I had never used it. The green polka dot paper is from the Ooh La La collection by My Mind's Eye. The shamrocks and sentiment were heat embossed to give the images a raised and shiny effect. I love the look of embossed images. Don't you? The design is simple but spacing the images can be a little tricky. Well, have a wonderful weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Over the Hill Birthday Card

Hello Friends! Here is an Over the Hill Birthday Card I made for my Mother's Birthday. She loves blue and burgundy so I used those colours on top of the herringbone patterned paper by Crate Paper and added a fun strip of blue zebra paper by The Paper Studio. The Over the Hill image is by Bugaboo Stamps and I coloured it with my Copic markers. It's fun to make handmade cards for family and friends. I didn't just go to the store and buy something generic. I created something  special for someone special. Have a great day and thanks for stopping by my blog!

Wild Halloween Card

Hello! Today ColourQ meets CASology with this Wild Halloween Card. The cue word at CASology is WILD. The first thing that comes to my mind is the zebra pattern. The zebra stamp was quite large so I masked about a third of it to make it more narrow. Combine that with the ColourQ colours and the end result is a simple, savvy, and spooky handmade Halloween card! Thanks for stopping by my blog and have a wonderful day!

Wild Halloween Card Supplies:
  • Paper: Whisper white and tangerine tango card stock by Stampin' Up!
  • Stamps: Zebra background stamp by Stampabilities and Googly Ghouls by Stampin' Up!
  • Inks: Classic stampin' pads in rich razzleberry and basic black.
  • Other Stuff: Circle punch, dots bright bling by Jolee's, googly eyes, and stampin' dimensionals.
The sentiment was created in word and printed on card stock.

Great Birthday Card

It is evident that I have fallen behind on some of my favorite challenges. There are so many that it's hard to keep up. This afternoon I realized that I only had a few hours left to create a card for The Play Date Cafe's color splash challenge. Since I was pressed for time I went with my favorite glittered zebra patterned paper and created this Great Birthday Card. The splash of green is lucky limeade by Stampin' Up! and the bling is by Recollections.  Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Triple Butterfly Card

Two of my favorite colors are included in the CR84FN color challenge. Those colors are purple and green, so of course I had to play along. I knew I wanted to use butterflies and the blue zebra patterned paper. This triple butterfly card design evolved from my first idea. I originally had the zebra paper turned horizontally but, I just didn't like it. After I played around a bit and added some twine, this is how it ended up.

Triple Butterfly Card Supplies: Very vanilla cardstock by Stampin' Up!, euphoria patterned paper by Basic Grey (eup-1248), grape crush and parakeet cardstock by Bazzill Basics, blue cardstock and blue zebra patterned paper by The Paper Studio, butterfly prints stamp set by Stampin' Up! (retired), sentiment stamp by Inkadinkado (60-60049 Everyday Expressions), VersaMark watermark stamp pad, Stampendous! Pearlustre embossing powder in translucent pearl and jade pearl, heat tool, butterfly punch by Stampin' Up! (retired), circle punches, scallop circle punch, purple doodle twine, foam tape, and stampin' dimensionals.

It was time to use more zebra patterned paper and the Mojo Monday challenge was the perfect place to use it.  The challenge today was either a round or square card.  Until today I had never made either.  So, I chose the square and made mine 5" x 5".  My nieces were the inspiration for my card.  They participate in a lot of activities during the school year and this card will be a fun encouragement card.  Thanks for stopping by my blog and have a happy and crafty day!
