Card from the Rescued Cats

Hello and Happy Father's Day! My hubby and I never had kids, but we have rescued cats. So, I made my hubby a Card from the Rescued Cats. He does a lot for them and I could never do it all alone. He will tell anyone that he wasn't really a cat person before he met me, I made him love cats. Right now, he is in the recliner taking a nap with our youngest who was rescued a block from our house last October. The poor little guy had been dumped and was crying for help. He would have never made it outside. Thankfully, he ended up with us. He is one of my hubby's best buddies.🐈

This Card from the Rescued Cats features a stamped image and sentiment from the Adopt Don't Shop Cats stamp set by Whimsy Stamps. The image was colored to look like our cats using Copic markers. Black cats are hard to color, but I think it turned out okay. The sentiment was popped up using foam tape and some sequins added for sparkle. So glad you stopped by and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

Ewe Christmas Card

Good day and thanks for stopping by my blog. My parents raised sheep for nearly 30 years. So, when I find cute sheep stamps I tend to add them to my stash. Today I'm sharing this Ewe Christmas Card featuring the Fleece Navidad stamp set from Whimsy Stamps. It's designed by Crissy Armstrong, she creates the cutest stamps. This stamp has been in my stash for many years, but this was the first time I inked it up. Copic markers were used to color the image and then it was adhered to a piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock by Stampin' Up!. All the patterned papers are from the Christmas Magic paper pad by Echo Park (2021). That's it! The design is simple and everything was adhered flat for easy shipping. Thanks again for stopping by!🎄

Old Buzzard 70th Birthday Card

Hello! It's been busy at my house and crafting has taken a backseat to other priorities. However, my dad turns 70 in a few days and I needed to make his birthday card. The Old Buzzard stamp set from Whimsy Stamps was perfect for this occasion. Copic markers were used to color the images and then they were die cut with the coordinating dies. The Connected Tile die from Whimsy Stamps was used to give the buzzards a place to perch. The background paper is from the It's a Party paper pad by Pink & Main (it's been in my stash for awhile). To finish off the card the number 70 was stamped using an Echo Park classic numbers stamp set. Then it was punched with a 1" circle and layered with a green scalloped circle. That pretty much sums it up. I appreciate you stopping by and I hope you have a lovely day!

Tenth Year Blogiversary

Wow! Today marks the tenth year since I started this Savvy Handmade Cards blog. I want to thank all of my followers! As of today I have 196 followers and 622,484 page views. It's amazing how much has changed in the past ten years. When I started making handmade cards I used a lot of stickers for images and sentiment stamps. Over the years my stamp collection has grown and now I color a lot of my images with Copic markers and use coordinating dies to cut them out with my Big Shot. I still love using patterned paper! There is just something about pretty/cute paper that makes me happy. I don't know what's in store for the next ten years, but I've enjoyed sharing my handmade cards with you. 😊

This Tiger WOWzers Card was made for my niece. She is a senior in high school and has decided to attend East Central University, where I graduated, to pursue her education. The university mascot is a tiger, so I couldn't resist using the Tabby Tigers stamp set from Whimsy Stamps. To add some detail I used the Connected Rectangle die from Whimsy Stamps. Everything was adhered flat and three sequins added for some sparkle. That's it! I'm so glad you stopped by and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.

Cute Dragons Valentine Card

Happy Valentine's Day! Today I'm sharing the card I made for my six year old nephew. He loves dinosaurs and dragons look like dinosaurs, so I used the cute Heart Kisses image by Dustin Pike. A mix of Copic markers and Stampin' Blends were used to color the image. The patterned paper is from the Dino Friends paper pad by Echo Park. A sentiment was added and everything was adhered flat for easy shipping. That's it, a simple Cute Dragons Valentine Card. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your day.💗

Mouse St. Patrick's Day Card

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Did you wear green today? It's one of my favorite colors, so I always embrace the wearing of the green. Although that's about the extent of my St. Patrick's Day celebrating. I don't drink, so no green beer for me!☘☘☘

This afternoon I made this Mouse St. Patrick's Day Card using a digital image called Little Shamrock Mouse that I found at Whimsy Stamps. It was colored with Copic markers and then die cut with a stitched circle die. The green patterned papers are from the Lots O' Luck paper pad by Doodlebug Design (2018). The black and white polka dots help break up all the green and I decided to add a little bit of gold glitter paper for some sparkle. A sentiment was the final touch and everything was adhered flat. This card is entered into the 2 Crafty Critter Crazies March Anything with a Critter challenge and Crafty Gals Corner Make It Green challenge. Thanks for stopping by!☘

Garden Kitty Card

Hello crafty friends! It's been awhile since I sat down to make a card without a specific reason or occasion. So today I made this Garden Kitty Card using all the summery colors I love. The Kitty in the Garden image is from Whimsy Stamps designed by Crissy Armstrong and it was colored with Copic markers. The patterned papers are from the Bloom Street paper pad by Pink Paislee. To add some detail I used a stamped and punched butterfly and flower both from retired stamps sets by Stampin' Up!. The Hello Beautiful sentiment is also by Stampin' Up! from the Butterfly Gala stamp set. That's it! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day.

Bunny Fabulous Day Card

Hope you're having a great day! My hubby is working today, so I took advantage of the time to myself to make this Bunny Fabulous Day Card. It's been a long time since I made a square card and Cute Card Thursday has a square challenge this week, so I made a square card. The image is called Morning Glory Bunny from Whimsy Stamps and it was colored with Copic markers. I've hoarded the floral patterned paper for awhile, it was a freebie from a magazine from 2012, but it goes really well with the image. The sentiment is by Hero Arts and I added a stamped yellow butterfly and three purple sequins for detail and that's it. I'm glad you stopped by!

Cat and Dog Hugs Card

Oh my... it seems when it rains it pours, especially lately. Several of my friends have lost family members lately and I'm still struggling with my own grief. So, I decided to sit down and make something cute and heartfelt with a couple stamps I had never used. The Cat and Dog image is from Whimsy stamps and it's called Lend Me Your Ear (mine is a rubber cling stamp but it looks like it's only available as a digital stamp now) and I paired it with a Hugs sentiment stamp by Unity Stamps from the Bunny- Keep You Forever sentiment kit. After stamping the image with Memento black ink, Copic markers were used for coloring and then it was fussy-cut. The plaid paper is from Perfectly Plaid Christmas paper pad by Lawn Fawn (2016). Three punched hearts were added and everything was adhered flat for easy shipping. That's it! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day.

Penguin Watermelon Card

Thanks for stopping by to check out this Penguin Watermelon Card. Watermelon is a loved summer treat here in Oklahoma. My grandparents used to grow them in their garden and sell them in their farm stand. I have many fond memories of summer that involves watermelons. I guess that's why I love this penguin digital image from Whimsy Stamps designed by Crissy Armstrong. Copic markers were used to color the image and then it was die cut with a stitched square die. The sentiment says "Today calls for something sweet" and it's from the retired More Than Words stamp set by Stampin' Up!. All patterned papers are from the Summer Lovin' paper pad by Carta Bella (2014) and that's it. Wishing you a happy and crafty day!

Puppy's New Friend Card

Well, it's the last Wednesday of the month and honestly I feel March just flew by. Today I'm sharing my latest card using the Puppy's New Friend stamp from the Crissy Armstrong Collection at Whimsy Stamps. The image was colored with Copic markers. For the layout I found a sketch from Mojo Monday 439 from March of 2016. I substituted a square for the focal area but I really like the way the sketch was designed. The papers are from several different paper pads and I matted them to a piece of kraft cardstock to go with the kraft striped paper. A Just Because sentiment was added and that's it. Everything was adhered flat for easy shipping and no other embellishments. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Autumn Bunny Card

Hello and happy Wednesday! My hubby was home the last couple of days, so there was no crafting going on at my house. He is at work today, but then he will be off tomorrow through the weekend. While I had some time to myself today I made this Autumn Bunny Card using a stamp by Whimsy Stamps called Bunny in Leaves (retired). The image was colored with Copic markers and then die cut with a square alterations framelit die by Tim Holtz. Since the image is on the larger size, I opted to make a square card. The layout is from the sketch at Cheerful Sketches Challenge. The leaves and plaid patterned papers are from the Fall Blessings paper pad by Carta Bella (2015) and were matted to Shaded Spruce cardstock by Stampin' Up!. There is no added embellishments to this card, just a sentiment from the Harvest Tails stamp set by Newton's Nook. That's it and thanks for stopping by.

Penguin Halloween Card

Hooray for Friday! Halloween is a little over six weeks away which gives me plenty of time to make my Halloween cards. If I make two a week that will give me the right amount to send to family and friends. Most of them are one of a kind designs, but sometimes I'll make two if I get rushed. Here is my first Penguin Halloween Card. Isn't this the cutest Halloween stamp? It's called Penguin Spook Nite by Whimsy Stamps. Copic markers were used to color the image and then it was fussy cut. The background panel was made with distress inks and watered down white acrylic paint for the splatter. A piece of chevron paper from the Not Too Spooky paper pad by Pink & Main was used to help pull the colors together. Two punched bats were added for detail and that's it. So glad you stopped by and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Penguin Easter Bunny Card

Happy Wednesday! Since Easter falls earlier this year I'll have to pick between making more St. Patrick's Day or Easter cards. Between the two... Easter wins! I'm still having a hard time sitting for long periods of time, the bone spurs on my hip are not fun!!! I did buy a new padded chair today, so maybe that will help.

The stamps I ordered to make my Easter cards haven't arrived yet. So, when I found this cute Penguin Easter Bunny digital image at Whimsy Stamps, I decided to make a couple of my Easter cards with it. I adore penguins and this image is really cute. The image was colored with Copic markers and then die cut with a stitched rectangle die. All patterned papers are from the Echo Park Hello Easter 6 x 6 paper pad. It seems I covered up all the yellow in the patterned paper, but I thought yellow butterfly/butterflies went okay. Which card do you like best... one butterfly or two? I had the hardest time deciding, so feel free to help me out. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Penguin Hello Autumn Card

Hello! I have a quick post to share this Penguin Hello Autumn Card I made for a few challenges. A couple of weeks ago I saw this Penguin image used and it's so cute I had to buy it. The image is called Penguin Apple Bushel and you can find it at Whimsy Stamps. Copic markers were used to color the image and then it was die cut using a cross stitched oval by My Favorite Things. Most of the papers are from the Woodland Forest paper pad by Pebbles (2016) with the exception of the gingham which was in my scrap bin. The Hello Autumn sentiment is from the retired Cheer All Year stamp set by Stampin' Up! and Memento black ink was used. Three green candy dots were added for detail and that's it!

Balloon Kitty Birthday Card

There are several wonderful blog hops going on right now! I decided to combine The Cat Lovers Hop with The Hop to Stop raising awareness for domestic violence. That meant I needed to use purple and a cat... no problem! A few other challenges helped to inspire this Balloon Kitty Birthday Card and here they are:
It's been awhile since I've used a stencil and I'm ashamed to admit the Quarterfoil one I used today sit new in a drawer for over a year. I need to break my patterned paper addiction and make more of my own backgrounds, but it's SO hard!!! The stencil is from Clear Scraps and Lavender dye ink by Hampton Art along with Purple Passion powder puff by Quick Quotes were used for color. This adorable kitty image is from Whimsy Stamps and the birthday sentiment is from Hero Arts. That's it! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Birthday Greetings Card with Kitty

Happy Birthday to me! Yep, today is my birthday... so I made myself a card. Why not? I used my favorite color purple, my favorite Secret Garden patterned paper by Bo Bunny and my favorite new Kitty stamp by Whimsy Stamps. The layout is from one of my favorite sketch challenges Tuesday Morning Sketches, although I took a few more creative liberties than usual (hopefully they don't mind). Copic markers were used to color the image and the kitty is colored to look like my first indoor kitty. She lived with us for twenty years before she crossed the rainbow bridge, it's been almost five years ago since she passed. She was the sweetest kitty with beautiful blue eyes! My coloring doesn't do her justice so I'm sharing a picture.

Here she is Miss Precious:
