Kick Ass Birthday Card

My brother's birthday is this weekend, so I made him this Kick Ass Birthday Card. If you knew my brother you would understand it's also very appropriate. Hopefully he will see the humor! The stamp set is from Unity Stamp Company and it's called Jack {ass} and I used this weeks sketch at Mojo Monday for the layout. Finding the right papers with the right colors was the hardest part. I finally settled on papers from the Snippets collection by Studio Calico (2012). The image was colored with Copic markers using warm gray tones. Then I decided to add the party hat from a Newton's Nook stamp set. The final touch was the addition of four pastel glimmer dot stickers by Sticko and that's it. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

Newton's Hey Pumpkin Card

This week my energy levels have really plummeted and it's affecting my creativity. After some afternoon coffee I used the energy from the "caffeine fix" to make this Newton's Hey Pumpkin Card. There are only a couple of days left to join the Halloween challenge at the Newton's Nook blog.  To make this card I used this weeks sketch at Mojo Monday  along with another Halloween challenge at The Paper Players.

The spooky sky was created by sponging on charcoal chalk ink and then adding some violet and a little pumpkin pie. Copic markers were used to color the image from the new Newton's Perfect Pumpkin stamp set. The sentiment doesn't show up well in the photo but it says "hey there, pumpkin." Well, it's getting late and I better turn in. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Celebrating 900 Posts!!!

Hello crafty friends! First, I want to welcome all my new followers, I'm so glad you've joined my blog. Second, I'm Celebrating 900 Posts!!! That's right this is my 900th blog post at Savvy Handmade Cards. I'd say that calls for a giveaway! I've got a retired Moonlight paper stack, basic gray twine and a blender pen all by Stampin' Up! for one lucky follower. You have a week to leave me a comment and I'll randomly choose a winner on Tuesday, July 19th.

To create this Flamingo Hello Card I used this weeks sketch at Mojo Monday. The image area was the perfect size to use a flamingo stamp by Stampendous! that I bought on sale but had never used. After looking up pictures of flamingos,  I colored the image with Copic markers. The argyle paper is by Crate Paper and the Hello sentiment is by TPC Studios.

Colorful Thank You Card

Hello! Today I was in the mood to make something bright and cheerful. Recently I received some colorful Bo Bunny paper from the Believe collection in a card kit and I thought it would make a fun Thank You card. The layout is from Mojo Monday, sketch #451. There is plenty of space to let the paper take center stage. The Watercolor Thank You stamp by Stampin' Up! was used and I heat embossed it with black embossing powder. I used the pink portion of the paper that had been trimmed for the banner detail and stamped it with polka dots using Melon Mambo ink. Three larger sequins were used for some sparkle and that's it! A pretty simple but colorful thank you card.

Feminine Patriotic Card

It's a little past my bedtime but I slept in on Memorial Day and now I can't go to sleep. This doesn't happen very often but I'm sure the mid-day espresso beverage didn't help my dilemma. Since I couldn't sleep I decided to make a card using this weeks Mojo Monday sketch. It's Tall & Skinny week and I do love making this size of card. The finished size of this Feminine Patriotic Card is 3.5" x 6". This card was made with a female soldier in mind as the recipient.

The patterned paper on this card is from the American Beautiful collection by Pebbles and it coordinated nicely with Marina Mist cardstock by Stampin' Up!. Using Spellbinders Die D-Lites called Bloom One the flower was die cut, layered and anchored together with a blue polka dot brad. Three die cut green leaves from my stash of extras were added around the flower. The You have Made a Difference sentiment by Hampton Art was stamped using Night of Navy ink and the final touch was some denim colored twine from The Twinery. That's it!

Watercolor Wings Sympathy Card

Hello! Last night I was playing around with the Watercolor Wings stamp set and I created this Sympathy Card. It features my favorite retiring patterned paper by Stampin' Up! called Pretty Petals. For the focal panel I stamped onto patterned paper and it really softened the ink colors. The leaves are from the Kinda Eclectic stamp set and the sentiment is from a retired hostess set. I love angled panels and really enjoyed using this weeks sketch at Mojo Monday for the layout. When it came time to stamping the sentiment I debated about making it read straight or on the angle with the panel. I went with the angle because it fell in line with the polka dots. The finishing touch were three retired Crisp Cantaloupe sequins for a little sparkle.

You're One of a Kind Card

It's always a good day when some crafting supplies are delivered to my doorstep! My Simon Says Stamp May Card Kit arrived and since my hubby was taking a nap, I played in my craft room. I used the Mojo Monday sketch, this week it's round or square and this You're One of a Kind Card is 5.25" square. Most of the supplies came in the kit but I added two scrap pieces of patterned paper to make the grass and the pink polka dot through the middle and colored the flowers with Copic markers. I love how happy this card turned out.

Happy New Year 2016 Card

My intentions were to post a New Year's Card on New Year's Day... well that didn't happen. It seems when my hubby is on vacation I don't get anything done as planned. So, better late than never, here is my Happy New Year 2016 Card.

The layout is from this weeks Mojo Monday Sketch and I've used a digital image from Doodle Pantry. I absolutely love all the birdies by Doodle Pantry! The diamond patterned paper comes with the image and the green and orange papers are from the Happy Day paper pad by Pebbles. To add some sparkle I added five purple rhinestones by Recollections. If you look closely you can tell that I fussy-cut the birds hat and popped it up on dimensionals. The sentiment stamp is by Print Works and was stamped using Memento black ink. That pretty much sums it up.

I hope you have a healthy, happy and super crafty New Year!!!

Silver metallic baby rick rack was used for detail and the sentiment is from Hampton Arts. The final addition were the three Island Indigo Candy Dots. That's it! Thanks for stopping by.

Fall Butterfly Card

"Nature gives to every season a beauty all it's own." ~Dickens

I'm ready for the colors of fall to arrive and it's evident in my recent card creations. On my last trip to the local scrapbook store they had the new collection called Enchanted Harvest by BoBunny and I couldn't resist picking up a few sheets. This Fall Butterfly Card has three patterned papers from the Enchanted Harvest collection. Several challenges listed below influenced the direction of this card.

The layout is from this weeks sketch at Mojo Monday and it was perfect for a sentiment focused design. The sentiment stamp is called Every Season by Verve Stamps and I used the Papillon Potpourri set and Bitty Butterfly punch by Stampin' Up! A little clear Wink of Stella was added to the butterflies for some sparkle but the patterned paper did most the work on this card. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Gold Butterfly For You Card

It's time to say goodbye to August and that makes me HAPPY! I wanted to make one more card for this month and had some time this afternoon to make this Gold Butterfly For You Card.  I combined the Tall & Skinny Sketch at Mojo Monday with the Tic Tac Toe challenge at The Paper Players. The middle row down was used to create this card and that includes: Circle, Embossing and Mint Macaroon. The finished size of this card is 3.5" x 6".

Most of the supplies for this card are by Stampin' Up! unless noted, here is the ingredient list:
  • Paper: Very Vanilla cardstock, gold textured cardstock by Recollections and patterned paper from the Pretty Petals paper stack.
  • Stamps: Kinda Eclectic and Bitty Banners
  • Inks & coloring: Gold emboss powder and Mint Macaroon stampin' pad.
  • Other Stuff: Big Shot, polka dot embossing folder, heat gun, ribbon by Decorative Trim (Hobby Lobby in the sewing section), Bitty Butterfly punch, stitched circle steel dies by My Favorite Things and stampin' dimensionals.

Cute Snowman Card

Hello crafty friends! There are still plenty of Christmas in July challenges online right now, so I decided to make another Christmas card. This Cute Snowman Card features a digital image by From the Heart Stamps called For the Birds. I just love the little birds perched on the snowman's arms. The image was colored with Copic markers and some Stickles added below the snowman. To accent the snowman's hat I used some white Tulip puffy paint. The layout if from this weeks sketch at Mojo Monday and all patterned papers are from the 25th and Pine paper stack by Basic Grey. To cut the snowflakes I used a Cricut machine with the Christmas Noel Cartridge. Behind the snowman image is a strip of silver glitter tape by Recollections and that sums it up. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Keep Your Faith Card

Keep your faith in all beautiful things:
 In love before it's realized,
in the flower before the bloom.

This Keep Your Faith Card started with selecting a fantastic sketch and a lovely sentiment. The Mojo Monday sketch #406 was used for this card. The focal panel was perfect for the sentiment from the Garden Phrase stamp set by Rubbernecker. It was stamped in Soft Suede ink by Stampin' Up! All patterned paper on this card are by Bo Bunny from the Penny Emporium Collection. I used the Flower Shop stamp set by Stampin' Up! and stamped onto purple polka dot paper. The flower was punched using the Pansy Punch and then popped up with dimensionals. The Bird Builder Punch was used for the leaf accents. The final touch were a few purple rhinestones by Recollections. That's it! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Dream in Your Garden Card

Hello and happy Monday! I hope you had a fabulous weekend. We didn't do a lot, just rented a couple of movies and kept it simple. Yes, I said rented... when it comes to keeping up with technology my hubby really doesn't care. No streaming or cable in our house!

Okay, onto this Dream in Your Garden Card created using this weeks Mojo Monday sketch #405. I loved playing with the angles and layers in this sketch!!! Another love is the Pretty Petals designer paper stack. The colors have wonderful contrast and contain a nice mix to coordinate perfectly. Besides the patterned paper, I added a strip of polka dot embossed Calypso Coral cardstock. The sentiment is from the Garden Phrase Set by Rubbernecker stamps. For a pop of Pacific Point blue I added the Bitty Butterfly stamped using the Papillon Potpourri stamp set. That's it! I would also like to enter this card into the Anything Goes challenge at Robyn's Fetish. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Furry Friend Sympathy Card

Yesterday my parent's Great Pyrenees, Puffy, passed across the rainbow bridge. She was a wonderful dog and lived long past her life expectancy at seventeen years old. My parents raise sheep and she was their keeper and our family friend. She will be greatly missed!!!

To create this Furry Friend Sympathy Card, I used the Tall & Skinny sketch #404 at Mojo Monday. All patterned papers are by DCWV and are layered onto Very Vanilla by Stampin' Up! This card is 3.5" x 6". The sentiment stamp is from the Kind Words stamp set by Verve Stamps. I added some twine and that was it! The patterned paper did all the work on this card.

Happy 18th Birthday Card

My niece is turning eighteen this Friday and I decided to make her birthday card including the number eighteen to celebrate this significant occasion. I used the sketch at Mojo Monday for the card layout. The patterned papers are by Glitz Designs with a strip of black glitter tape by Recollections in the middle. For the sentiment I masked the word holiday from a happy happy happy holiday stamp and replaced it with birthday. I cut the number 18 using my Cricut machine and added some loose sugar cube glitter by Martha Stewart to the white numbers. The eighteen is accented by a bling circle by Recollections.  Now, I used the eight in the same way the Cricut machine cut it, but does it look upside down to you? I thought about turning it with the small end up but went with how it was cut. The accent cardstock colors are Pool Party and Lost Lagoon. That's it! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day!

Simple Dahlia Card

Good day! I have a quick post to share this Simple Dahlia Card. There is not much to this casual card, patterned paper, one stamp set, a heat embossed sentiment and a pearl/rhinestone flourish. The layout is from this weeks sketch at Mojo Monday. When I saw the sketch, I immediately thought of the Regarding Dahlias stamp set. It's on the retired list and won't be available after today (sad face). I stamped the Dahlia using a new color called Delightful Dijon and it will be available starting tomorrow along with the Bohemian dsp. That's it! I hope you enjoy the rest of your day and thanks for stopping by.

Hello! I have a quick post to share this Celebrate Cupcake Card. It's a tall and skinny card with dimensions of 3.5" x 6". I used the Mojo Monday sketch for the design and you're getting a sneak peek at new patterned papers from Stampin' Up! called Cherry On Top. There are two new colors used on the card, Watermelon Wonder and Cucumber Crush along with Pool Party, Crushed Curry, Bermuda Bay and Whisper White. The cupcake stamp is by Hampton Arts and it fit perfectly in the 2" punched circle. I added the celebrate sentiment from the Good Greetings set by Stampin' Up! and the final touch was three sequins from Close to My Heart with rhinestones added to the center. That's it!

Cheerful Good Thoughts Card

Hooray for Friday! I hope you had a wonderful week. When I was working full-time it made it hard to spend time in my craft room and participate in challenges. Now that I've reduced my schedule I have more free time to play! It's been awhile since I played along at Mojo Monday and ColourQ, so I combined the two to create this Cheerful Good Thoughts Card. The sketches at Mojo Monday usually include lots of layers to use my patterned papers, and I love patterned paper. Adding lots of layers makes this card eligible for the layers challenge at Brown Sugar.

All supplies for this card are by Stampin' Up!. The supply list includes:
  • Paper: Whisper White, Calypso Coral, Blushing Bride and Coastal Cabana cardstock. Patterned paper from retired Fresh Prints paper stack, Best Year Ever dsp, and Subtles designer paper stack and retired 2010-2012 paper stack.
  • Stamps: Perfect Pennants and Geometrical.
  • Inks: Calypso Coral and Coastal Cabana.
  • Other Stuff: Triangle punch, hexagon punch and stampin' dimensionals.
