Color My World Link Party!!!

Thanks to everyone who has been following the Color My World Challenge!  We've reached the final week.  This is where we invite all of YOU to link up a post sharing how you challenged yourself to try a new color in your home.

The best thing about this party is that your link will show up on all 15+ Color My World challengers blogs.  Next Tuesday, we'll all feature a few of our favorite links.  So start linking at the bottom of this post!!!

In case you missed the last few weeks, I added navy to my living room.

This challenge forced me to finish some projects that I've had lingering for a while.  Thanks Jessamie for dreaming this whole thing up!

It also gave me a good excuse to purchase some new chairs that I've had my eye on.

After I picked navy, I realized that I cheated a little bit.  I already had some navy in my living room, but the challenge encouraged me to add more!

I already had these navy banded curtains.

And these navy chevron chairs.  Wow, that's an old picture...I almost forgot I used to have that ugly carpet!  I must have blocked it out.

I promise I will show you pictures of the entire room soon.  I had ordered a jute rug from West Elm that came with some damage.  I had to ship it back and am waiting for the replacement.  West Elm has been great to work with through this process, by the way.  As soon as the new rug arrives, I'll show you some pictures.

I also have my eye on these pillows from World Market.  I love the colors.

I would like a throw for the couch to hide the drab olive green.  This one frome Serena & Lily is cute, but at over $200, I think I'll look for something a bit less expensive.

And the room won't be complete without the elusive fiddle leaf fig tree.  This tree doesn't seem to exist anywhere near me!

I don't think I have any "finished" rooms in my house.  They are all works in progress that are continually changing.  At least the living room is now on the right path!

Show us what you've got and link up!!!

I know you want to see what the other challengers have been up to as well.

Suzy's House Party #7 - Link Up!

You might remember that last week I shared this little chevron table and asked for tips on how to get nice crisp lines when painting.
You readers are the BEST!  I got some great tips.  Flour Blossoms shared the cutest striped laundry room and this tip: tape off your stripes, then take your base color (white, in the case of the table above) and paint right back over the edges of your tape. This way, your base color does all the bleeding through the tape and essentially seals the edges of the tape.  Genius and so easy!

My bloggy friend Vicky from http://decorharmony4290.blogspot.com/2011/08/shes-so-pretty.html from shared this tutorial on painting chevron that she found over at Elizabeth & Co.  Go check it out.

Now, on to the features from last week's party.  I think this was the best party yet and it was so hard to choose just a few favorites.

First up, is the Red Devil from Life We Live 4.  The detail is amazing and I like her bold color choice.

I also liked this midcentury piece that Vicky did.  It's a little hard to see from the picture, but it has kind of a metallic finish.  Check out how she used Rub 'n' Buff to get this unique look.

Party Time!

Missoni for Target

The good old chevron or zigzag pattern has provided lots of fodder for blogs.  We all love a good chevron dresser makeover, right?

The granddaddy of the zigzag is the Italian knitware designer Missoni.  Here are some of their clothes that are available at Saks.

As you can imagine, this clothing does not come cheap.  The pink ombre skirt alone is $3300.

Luckily for us chevron-lovers, Missoni has teamed up with my favorite store Target (or Tar-zhay, if you are feeling french and fancy) and will have a collection coming out September 13.

The collection reportedly will have over 400 items, including lots of things for the home such as sheets and dinnerware.  Here's a little preview:

I love this blanket and really want to see what the reverse blue side looks like.

The tote above is super cute.
There are even items for your littlest fashionistas.

Here are a couple of things from the home collection.  I'm really curious about what else they might have.

I think these plates could look amazing in a plate wall display.

Someone who is good at sewing and a perfectionist, definitely not me, could knock off that ruffle pillow.  Given Target's prices, however, it might be cheaper to just snag their version.

I guess the zigzag is not over, seeing that it is now at one of America's largest and most-loved retailers.  On the other hand, maybe some high-style people would say it's over now that it has reached the mass market.

What say you?

Feature Friday #3

The chevron trend has been around for a while now, but I still love it. My chevron chairs are one of my most favorite saves ever.

There are so many fun things going on in Blogland featuring the chevron pattern, everything from painted rugs to painted walls. I thought I'd share one of my favorite uses of the good ol' zigzag pattern (that's what we called it, before we knew the fancy name "chevron"): painted dressers.

I love the yellow knobs on this one. Check out the link to find a very helpful tutorial too.

Again, the gray and white looks great.

This Ikea hack features a more subtle, but no less beautiful, pattern.

I like the contrast between the stained top and the painted body of this one.

Here is a totally new take on the dresser that is absolutely stunning:

And one last pic. This time the chevrons were flipped on their side and painted in a bold color:

What do you think? Do you like chevron painted furniture? Is this trend done? Has it been overdone?
