Acme

Acme were a four-piece hardcore/metalcore band from Bremen, Germany that were around in the early 90's (1993 and 1994, at least). They put two 7"'s between the aforementioned years, and a discography compilation of both them in 1996. Despite their minor output, it's easy to hear what made this band so special and influential. The discordant riffs, athletic drumming, guttural vocals, would all become standards of American metalcore greats that came out in the latter half of the decade such as Converge and Botch. Highly recommended, enjoy.

Weak Ties

Weak Ties are a four-piece hardcore band from Bielefeld, Germany that began in 2016. Following a few releases of solid powerviolence, they put out their 2nd LP earlier this year, Find A Way, This is what really caught my attention, as its a very unique-sounding record. The fast-paced powerviolence influence is still present, but with a heavy dose of old school hardcore punk, like something straight out of the early 80's. It's the gap between Infest and The Adolescents, essentially. The production and guitar tone is absolutely incredible on this. It's crisp, raw, organic, and really just needs to be heard to be appreciated. The band brings a new, unique kind of energy to their sound, and makes for one hell of a fun listen. Highly recommended stuff, and Find A Way is definitely one of the coolest hardcore albums you're going to hear this year. Enjoy.

Danse Macabre

Danse Macabre were a four-piece screamo band from Trier, Germany that were around from 2001 to 2010. They out a slew of EP's and splits, with their standout and most well-known work being their only LP, 2005's Synkopenleben, Nein Danke. This is an undisputed essential screamo record of its era, and this band is a whole is one that this blog has been sorely lacking for years now. Sonically, fans of other chaotic, metallic screamo bands like Tristan Tzara, Louise Cyphre, or The Apoplexy Twin Orchestra will undoubtedly love them, though are most likely already familiar with them. Like I said, Danse Macabre is essential screamo listening, so enjoy.

La Petite Mort / Little Death

La Petite Mort / Little Death are a three-piece screamo band from Rodgau, Germany that began in 2014. They've got an incredibly unique sound, playing some very progressive and technical riffs with off-kilter rhythms, odd time signatures, and heavy use of syncopation. They're kind of like a zanier At The Drive-In with screamo influence. After a handful of small releases, their debut LP came out back in 2019, which perfectly encapsulates their frantic energy and highly recommended to check out. Enjoy.

Enfold

Enfold were a five-piece hardcore/screamo band from Bielefeld, Germany that were around from 1995 to 2000 (approximately). Besides that, the only info I could find on them was that they shared a member with 125, Rue Montmartre. There's also a fantastic live set from them on YouTube from unARTigNYC if you're interested here. Sonically, they're comparable to bands such as Swing Kids and Angel Hair. Enjoy.

Louise Cyphre

Louise Cyphre were a four-piece screamo band from Germany that were around from 1999 to 2007. Their name is probably familiar, since they are probably one of the best and most influential "skramz" bands ever. Fans of that chaotic, noisy emo-violence sound will basically worship this band, and for good reason. I don't have to say much else, really. If you like dark, spastic screamo, you'll love this shit. They released a discography LP which includes all they've done except their one track on the Emo Apocalypse comp (which was put out a year after their discog). I included the discography in addition to all their individual releases (except the demo, which is only on the discog). Members now play in Republic Of Dreams. Enjoy.

June Paik

June Paik are a five-piece screamo/emo violence band from Munchen, Germany that's been around since 2004. Since then, they've become one of the most notable screamo acts in the past decade, and for good reason. What June Paik does best is take the core sound of hardcore/screamo, with its dark and chaotic assault, and expand it with lengthier, more droning musical passages. As opposed to the 30 second bursts of most bands within this genre, an average June Paik song can easily be as long as 8 minutes, with most songs averaging about 4 or 5 minutes. Keep in mind, the song lengths are not for the sake of length, but to build these songs into catharsis masterpieces. Also, some of their releases are titled as 7", 10", and 12", since they're all just self-titled, which is an online music library's personal hell. Regardless, enjoy.

Alpinist

Alpinist are a four-piece hardcore/crust punk band from Munster, Germany that formed in 2007. These guys play an incredibly dark and intense style of hardcore that borders on screamo territory at times. I don't know if they're still active, since they haven't put out any material in five years. However, their two LP's are absolutely killer. If that really is the end of Alpinist, they've left with a flawless discography. Plus, their members are now active in two of the best hardcore bands active today, which are Jungbluth and Svffer. Both of those bands are already up on the blog, so if you haven't heard them, definitely be sure to check them out as well. Enjoy.
