Fall Subway Art & a Silhouette Promotion!

Sorry this is so late in the day. I've been having issues with my Silhouette not cutting or sketching in the right place. It was a silly thing, but I finally got it fixed and was able to get this project done!

I know that for some of you, it's still summer, But I'm so over the extreme summer heat here in Idaho. I'm desperately wishing for cooler temps. So I'm sitting inside doing some fall crafting! I've got a fun Fall Subway Art for you today using my Silhouette machine and Silhouette's Sketch Pens!

This is a fairly straight-forward project. It's also very similar to the Spring Subway Art that I did earlier this year. I typed out the words I wanted in the desired font, laid them out how I wanted, and then got to sketching.

This is the design I came up with in Silhouette Studio. Don't mind the coloring. That was me just playing around with color ideas. If anyone is interested, I can offer you the design minus the chevron border in the middle. The chevron border is a design from the silhouette online store.

Thanks to an awesome reader (big shout out to TaraJay) who commented on my Spring Subway Art, I found out that the easiest way to send something through the Silhouette multiple times is to just turn off and on the things you do and don't want cut (or sketched, in my case). Maybe I'm the only one out there that hadn't figured out this feature, but incase I'm not, I'll show you what I'm talking about. Up at the top of the toolbar in Silhouette, there's a button that looks like a pair of scissors and a red line.

Click that button and you'll get some options on the right sidebar.

I started by choosing the whole design and turning everything off (by choosing "no cut"). Then I chose one specific word and turned it back on (by choosing "cut") to cut only that part. In the image above, I actually chose both sides of the border. You can see that when something is going to be cut, the lines turn to a bold red. The ones that aren't going to be cut are really faded out. Once that part is sketched, then you click that scissor button at the top again, turn off what you just sketched, and turn on another part of the image to cut.

Super easy, right? Why has it taken me almost 3 years of having my Silhouette to figure this out?! Please tell me I helped someone...? :)

Also, randomly here, for a bolder look and color with the sketch pens, I recommend using the double cut feature. The pens go over the image twice. It does take twice as long, but the end result looks much better. I think that feature is especially helpful for something like this that is usually displayed on a wall and not seen up close, like a card would be.

Anyway, here's my finished Subway Art.

I don't think I'm quite ready to leave it up permanently yet, but it's in my arsenal of Fall décor to pull out in a couple of weeks!

Also, Silhouette is running another promotion for their machines and, of course, their sketch pens!

Silhouette Promotion

Silhouette is at it again with a great new promotion for ya'll! This month, they're highlighting the vinyl! Who doesn't love a good vinyl project, right?

Silhouette is running a Buy One Get One Free sale on all their vinyl. That's like getting the vinyl for 50% off!! You can also get a Silhouette Cameo plus 2 rolls of vinyl (chalkboard and white) AND 1 roll of transfer paper for $269.99!! Unfortunately Silhouette is unable to offer a sale on the Portrait at this time, but the Cameo will cut a much larger area. If the Cameo had come out before I bought my Silhouette SD, I definitely would have purchased the larger size machine!

To get either of these discounts, just use the code "SOMEDAY" at checkout. Just go load up your virtual cart with all the vinyl you could ever way, then use the promo code, and you'll see your total cut in half! Yay for sales!

My Silhouette is having issues cutting the vinyl the right way. No matter where I put my design to be cut (when I'm designing in the software), it always cuts off the first 1/2" to 1" of the design. It's driving me nuts, but hopefully I'll have it worked out soon. And then I'll be able to post my newest vinyl creation. In the mean time, here are a few vinyl creations from the past.

Here's the Headboard Vinyl that I created a few weeks ago. Still loving this and I get so many compliments from people who take a peek around our house!

And don't forget the Frosted Vinyl Mirror in our downstairs bathroom. Despite the bad lighting (there's no natural light in our bathroom), I think this little design really adds some class to our bathroom.

Or how about the soap dispensers that I created as Mother's Day gifts? My Mother-in-Law is visiting and LOVES it, so I told her I would try to cut her some vinyl so she could make one once she gets back home.

October Silhouette Bundle Promotion

It's that time again! Time for another Silhouette Project and Promo. This month we are all about Halloween. Cardstock, vinyl, heat transfer, you name it, we are decking it out for this spooky day.

This month I got the chance to play with the Flocked Heat Transfer Product. It was a cinch to cut.

Cut Settings:

Blade: 3
No cutting mat

I decided to make some cute personalized Halloween treat bags for my littles.

The Heat Transfer was a bit tricky. They recommend putting a shirt over the plastic and holding an iron there for 45-60 seconds. That just didn't work for me. I removed the shirt and ironed directly on the plastic. The coating got hot and warped a bit, but did not melt and there was no smell. The transfer worked much better that way, but you didn't hear it from me!

Now for the good stuff! Here are our deals for this month.

Coupon code is : SOMEDAY

Click here to get to all the deals or you can just click on the deal you want and you will be directed to the page. Easy Peasy!

Happy Crafting!

Promo runs from today through October 31st.

I got to play with all three specialty medias and today I'm sharing what I created with the Printable Sticker Paper.

I created name labels for my little guy. We constantly are having to send things to school and childcare and I have to put his name on everything. I wanted to make him feel special so I made these little custom stickers.

Here is a peek after printed.

And here I am removing one from the backing.

NOTE: With the recommended cutting settings for this media, it only cuts through the sticky paper leaving the backing intact. This makes it super easy to store your stickers should you not use them all at once.

And finally here's a look at it in action inside his book bag.

Promotion runs from today through Sept 30, 2012. You must use the links provided on each bundle to get our special price and you need to use coupon code SOMEDAY at checkout.

Happy Crafting!
