Mirrored Windows!

Want to brighten up and enlarge a room by adding windows where you don't currently have them? You've got to check out this idea from Chic and Lovely. She purchased some mirrored windows (you can make your own if you don't want to buy them too) and created "windows" where she wished she had them.

Paint That Paneling!!!

Guest Post - Remodelaholic - Screen Room Divider

Hey Y'all,

My name is Cassity from Remodelaholic. I decided to take over Someday Crafts! Mwah..ha ha!! Okay, so I'm just guest posting. I can only wish I had as many wonderful readers as Michelle does. And speaking of Michelle, thank you for letting me show my project off.

First, a little bit about me. I am married to my/the perfect man. He is a laid back, happy, artist and designer. He is a great father! And believe it or not, he loves to work on my Honey do list.... I KNOW! Like I said, perfect!

I am a SAHM (for those of you who don't text... like me I have to admit I just figured this one out, it means stay at home mom! - look you learned something already, although, you may have all known that, so just nod and smile at my lack of techno-coolness)

I have a 6 month old daughter who is a dream. I have wanted to be a mom for a while, so I am just soaking it up, and loving it.

According to the student loans, I am an Interior Designer. And I do LOVE design and creating things, my bank account just doesn't love it too. So, we do things on a budget. That is what I like to blog about. How to make things cheap. How to recycle what you already have. How to re-purpose old junk treasures into new wonderful things. And reuse the useless things.

At our blog, we show our projects around our house, and old houses... we are remodeling our third house currently. It is a sickness I guess, and might be contagious - so watch out! I like to highlight readers projects that are similar to the things we do. We also have a linky party on Fridays, to show off your ideas and projects and give you something to do for the weekend... as if you had the time! But please stop by Remodelaholic. Oh, and to make sure I feed my poor sweetie throughout the week, I put the hammer down every once in a while and cook, so there is also a recipe or two.

I am very excited to show you the project we have been working on for the last week or so.

First, let me give you some background. I used to work at Icon health and fitness in college. No that doesn't mean I worked out a lot, I worked in the legal department and the treat drawer was huge... I may have gained weight while working there... Along with the extra ten pounds, I did get a smokin deal on a huge elliptical, and later a recumbent bike. Just recently my neighbor sold us their old treadmill... So, while I am thankful to have my own personal gym, it is not all that pretty in my family room. But how to hide it?

I love you google search!

Anyway. I found this screen online and thought "$519.00 dollars" gulp... But, it is funky, and oh so fun. You know what? I could make it. SOLD!

And guess what, now you too can make this! Original on top, ours on the bottom.

Just keep that in mind, that you will be blown away when you can see how we did it for $30 to $50, depending on the size you want.

Supplies:

1 to 2 sheets 1/2" x 4' x8' boards, cut to size at the store, see specification sheet for dimensions, (Home Deopt makes cuts FYI) Approx $20.00 a piece

6 hinges, very small 2 screw hinge. These come in sets of two for Approx $2-3.00

Paint

Wood patch compound (optional, for oops!)



Tools:

Straight edge, or long ruler (for drawing on template)

Measuring tape (for drawing on template)

Pencil (for drawing on template)

Jig saw (to cut out shapes) - not included in cost, but they are only about $30.00, for a simple saw, FYI

1-2 sheets, 150 grit sand paper (for sanding raw cut edges)

A round object (for sanding curves, see instruction sheet)

Sanding block (or small piece of wood with sanding paper wrapping it)

(If you do not have these tools check bottom of post for another option to build the screen)

For those of you who don't have the tools to make this project, try this. Get the boards cut at the lumber store to the right width, I would recommend the 4' wide option so you don't waste as much since you probably won't be building a second thing out of the waste. Sand all the flat edges. Paint both sides one solid color. Trace the pattern lightly and carefully on the screen, and paint the cut-out pattern on to the screen. Or if you know a person who cuts vinyl you can have the relief shape cut from vinyl and attach it on there.
