15+ Baby Girl Headbands, Hairbows, and Flowers

One of the things that I don't have for this little baby girl is hair pretties. My boys have been mostly bald for quite a while. My oldest didn't even need a haircut until he was 2, and my 1-year-old looks to be on that same timeline. Needless to say, I'm not holding out hope that our little girl will be much different. Despite the fact that she may not have much hair at first, I'd still like her to have some pretty, girly things. Here are some of my favorites!

Crafting for Baby - Embellished Baby Clothes from Mabey She Made It

Lisa from Mabey She Made It is here today! I had the pleasure of meeting her last week at a blogger get-together and she's so sweet! Plus she has the cutest baby bump - and makes a bunch of maternity clothes! When I was looking at tutorials for maternity stuff, I kept coming across a bunch of her projects. Anyway, here she is...

Don’t you just love tiny newborn girls in headbands? Those little bald heads (mine are bald anyway) with a little something to make their eyes shine…so adorable!

Hi, I’m Lisa Mabey from Mabey SheMade It where I blog about DIY Crafts and Sewing. Today Let’s talk about a few ways to make your own baby headbands!

Now before we get started, I’m just going to say I’m not a big fan of the headbands with flowers or bows that are as big as the baby’s head (you can’t see the beautiful baby!), so the ones we’re going to make/talk about today are much more delicate.

The first thing you’ll want to do is make the actual headbands. Foldover elastic is by far my favorite thing to make these out of. It comes in a wide range of colors and even designs, so find something you love for the base.

Then cut the elastic so its long enough to go around your baby’s head comfortably. You don’t want to squeeze their little noggins but you also want it to stay on. Then sew or glue the two ends together.

You can also tie the ends together (you’ll want to cut your elastic longer if you’re going this route) but on newborns I typically don’t like the knotted look. Now you’ve got your basic headband. Time to embellish!

This is where it gets fun! You can go with a variety of embellishment options here you can: A) cut a flower out of some fun fabric, layering the petals and adding something to the center, B) Make a cute little bow out of felt and ribbon, C) Add a few stacked and coordinating buttons, D) Go really simple with a ribbon bow, or E) Embellish a felt bow with some little half-back pearls. Let’s make a felt bow together.

Start by cutting a strip of felt. The strip for my larger felt bow is 1.5” x 5” and my smaller bow is 1” x 4.”    Now fold the ends so they overlap a little, and while holding, cut out a small crescent shape on both sides to give the bow a little shape. Use hot glue to glue the ends together, just overlapping.

Take a second small piece of felt (or coordinating ribbon) and wrap and glue it around the center of the bow.

Glue it to your headband! On the larger bow, I hot glued some half-back pearls to the headband just for fun.

And in just a few minutes, you have adorable baby headbands that are custom designed for your baby! And if you don’t yet have a baby to model your headbands, squeeze your 3-year-olds head into one for a few minutes.

So cute! I wish I had some girls to wear headbands around here. Think my hubby would mind if I made some and let the baby wear them anyway? ;)

Also, Lisa's been having issues with her blog, but don't let that stop you from checking her out. Keep trying - I'm sure she'll be up and running again soon!

Interchangeable Flower Headbands

Pin It Want a great gift for a baby shower or for a new momma?   Try this interchangeable headband tutorial at Made It On Monday.   Make a couple sizes headbands and 10 flowers and you have a perfect present for a stylish baby!  I wish I would have done this when my daughter was a baby!  It would have saved a bunch of money.

Wednesday Party Highlights

I missed posting some party highlights this week because my computer was not cooperating! Here are a few lovely projects that I would love to see in my house or do!

I want a couple shelves filled with these Restoration Hardware industrial basket knock-offs at my house. I have quite a few shelves that would more stylish with these babies! Blissfully Ever After is the creator of these!

Have the style of Ballard Design without the high cost by building these cafe shelves by yourself. Great tutorial by That Village House.

I'm loving how A Little Tipsy glammed up her builder grade bathroom mirror by adding some frosting around the edges. (That sounds funny!) Pretty, Pretty frosted-edged mirror!

Check out these gorgeous skinny ruffled headbands at Flamingo Toes! So pretty and feminine.

I've never met a kid who didn't like to play in water with their hands. This water wall looks like so much fun! A Family That Birds Together has some happy children because of this contraption!

Headband Earmuffs

Make adorable earmuffs from a store bought headband. A great idea from A Girl and Her Glue Gun. One great thing about this is there is no sewing involved - just glue!

Guest Blogger - the30girl - Felt Flower Headbands

Hello Someday Crafts readers! I'm Katie from
and I'm excited to be here sharing a tutorial with you and introducing you lovely readers to my blog. On January 5th, I will be celebrating my one year blog anniversary; I started blogging to have a place to inspire and be inspired and to keep a record of what I'm doing here and now. Over this past year, so many opportunities (like a monthly television segment!) and internet friendships have developed through blogging; I can't believe I never started sooner!.

Today I'm here to share a tutorial for making felt flowers that can be used for making a myriad of accessories. I'll show you how to use them to make a headband.

If you've never visited the30girl, I tend to post crafts & DIY projects(with an emphasis on re-purposing/recycling), recipes, outfits, and inspiring things. Lately, I've been posting on holiday-focused for my 30 holiDAYS series. Here are a few of my favorite tutorials.

&

one for the season...

Now for today's tutorial! Recently, I participated in the Spread the Cheer holiday gift exchange and made these three gifts of assorted brooches, rings and headbands.

They turned out so cute and wearable that I wanted to share my simple how-to!

We are making the cream and olive headband today.

Step 1 & 2: Gather your felt (at least 35% wool), circle stencils, disappearing ink marker or chalk, and scissors. Trace around your circles; then, using the trace mark as a size guide, draw an amoeba shape.

Step 3: Cut out your three amoebas, two small and one medium.

Step 4: Cut the amoebas into long spiraled strips. (Note: The first couple of times I did this, I drew out the spiral just to make sure I got the hang of it.)

Step 5: You will end up with three strips of wavy, spiraled felt.

Step 6 & 7: Starting from the inner-end of the spiral, begin rolling the felt and hot gluing it into place as you go. (Note: I always roll it up without hot gluing first to see if I need to do any trimming to the felt "petals".) You see, the wavy spiral makes the petals in the flowers. So simple, yet so cool.

Step 8: After hot gluing each spiral, you will end up with three flowers for your headband.

Step 9 through 12: Using transparent monofilament nylon thread and small beads of your choice, stitch the beads in the center of each flower. (Note: You can use three beads in each flower for a more intricate look.)

Almost finished.

Step 13 & 14: It's time to glue the flowers to the headband. First, I glue the three flowers together. Then, I cut a piece of felt the same size as the flowers, place the flowers face down, spread the hot glue, place the headband and, finally, the backer.

Now it's time to wear or gift your new headband!

I love felt for winter! You can also use this same technique to make brooches, hair clips, rings, and more (I think I'm going to stitch some to a pair of wrist gloves). Feel free to contact me with any questions! Thanks so much for having me, Michelle and I'd love for you,-wonderful readers- to visit my blog - the30girl.
Thanks, Katie! Those felt flower headbands/rings/brooches would be super easy and quick to make for last minute Christmas gifts! I can think of a few people on my list who would love them. Visit the30girl for some great inspiration. I'm drooling over her Peppermint Truffle Pops!
