Italian music scene is not known only through San Remo and belcanto, but also for high quality and vibrant blues scene which is ranked among the best in Europe by experts. Especially in recent years Italian blues scene has been growing constantly and one of its best exponents is Mama's Pit, a band that shows off their potential with every concert, with every new recording.



Official formed in 1995, on remains of the popular band Big Fat Mama, whose starry moments include appearances with some top names like Robert Plant, James Cotton, Billy Cobham, Brother Jack McDuff and Mike Stern. Mama's Pit members are powerful vocalist Barbara Vulso, explosive guitarist Alessio Menconi, original keyboard player Federico Basso, and powerful rhythm section of Danilo Parodi-bass and Salvatore Cammilleri-drums. They play mostly original material plus few covers from the old masters like B.B.King, Al Green, Jimi Hendrix and alike.



Their latest CD "Mama's Pit" include guest appearances by Johnny Mars and James Thompson, well known and respected members of blues fraternity. Mama's Pit play the blues with conviction moving smoothly within the ranks of loose blues frames with some funk and rock spice for "better taste"! Vocalist Barbara Vulso stands out with her emotional delivery which is top class. Same can be said for guitarist Menconi and keyboardist Basso, while rock solid rhythm section build strong foundation of Mama's sound. (Vasja Ivanovski - Beyep)

Italian band "Mama's Pit" had the honour to close this year's "Skopje Blues & Soul Festival" and they did it in style! The band had the audience jumping and asking for more with their brand of blues including classic blues and R&B material, some Stevie Ray Vaughan stuff, a couple of funky pearls, some rock memories of Janis Joplin and good vibrations in general which were greeted with excitement of music lovers. Five excellent individuals featuring excellent guitar player Alessio Menconi and exceptional vocals of Barbara Vulso made a party to remember. Barbara really tore the place apart with her performance which included material road-tested throughout countless European gigs. Perfect ending of a festival which has maintained its tendency of prosperity that says we can expect more exciting blues happenings in the near future! (Vasja Ivanovski)
