Long John Baldry 1973 Good To Be Alive

Genre: Blues-Rock
Rate: 179 kbps VBR / 44100
Time: 00:41:18
Size: 42,66 MB

United Kingdom Canada

Good To Be Alive - (1973/1975) is probably one of Long John's most unknown records particularly in North America. Arguments can be made that this record is one of LJB's best records and it's a personal favorite of John's. The release of 'Good To Be Alive' in 1973 on GM Records (Gaff Mgt.) in England was the third great record that John had recorded in three years along with It Ain't Easy (1971) and Everything Stops for Tea (1972). This set of 3 recordings definitely marks a peak in Long John Baldry's recording career.

Part of the problem with the record being unknown to North American fans is the fact it wasn't released until 1975 on Casablanca Records. It has always been my contention that if this Folk, Blues, and Roots-Rock recording had been given an international release on a major label in 1973 then John's career would have sky rocketed.

This album was recorded in the spring of 1973 and it features some stunning slide guitar by Sammy Mitchell. John does a wonderful duet with the great session singer Liza Strike on 'She' a song by Graham Parsons. The title track, 'Good To Be Alive' is a great rocker written by Colin Allen and Zoot Money. John does a acoustic version of the traditional folk song 'Rake and A Rambling Boy' which in many ways is semi-autobiographical and Bo Diddley's 'Let Me Pass'. There is a strong interpretation of 'Gasoline Alley' that highlights the first side of the record. Also a rare Baldry written song, 'Maggie Bell' an acoustic tribute to the great Scottish singer of Stone The Crows fame. It would be nice if this record was someday recognized for its greatness by a proper North American CD release. (Jeff Edmunds)

JR Band 1998 My Way Or The Highway

Genre: Rock
Rate: 192 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 01:04:46
Size: 89,00 MB

Netherlands

We write down the year 2000, the new century has started and the JR BAND is running faster, bigger and better. An average of 120 gigs per year, well received through Europe, what am I saying....over the Globe! The JR BAND is very close to being a cult, with loyal fans, that will follow them where ever they go.

Of course, they have done supports for: ALLMAN BROS., ZZ TOP, SLASH, SIMPLE MINDS, WHITESNAKE, etc., and worked together on projects with : CHUCK BERRY, NAZARETH, the ANIMALS, B.B.KING and the horn section of TOWER OF POWER.

And J.R. was the singer with the Elvin Bishop Band in the late eighties.

But most of all they are the public’s favourite, a band that (with a lot of success and enthusiastic stage presence) lightened up many festivals, playing their perfect togetherness. Or to speak with the words of “BIG AL” (DJ. and rock VIP) :

JAN AND HIS BAND ARE THE LAST ROCK & ROLL GYPSIES THAT HOLLAND HAS GOT, SO LET’S PAY SOME RESPECT TOWARDS THESE GUYS, THEY DESERVE THE NAME:

“ THE HARDEST WORKING BAND IN SHOWBIZZ ”

They played such an energetic set for the Spanish T.V., that the following 2 weeks tour sold out. The first CD: “MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY” sold over 10.000 copies and was well received by the press. Something that is really special, considering they had no major record deal backing them up. (http://www.screenwerk.de)

Heavily Allman Bros. influenced southern rock by this Ohio band, with mostly blues based mat'l, and featuring dual lead and slide guitar, some vocal harmony, and a few Grateful Dead moves as well. It's been such a long time since I heard about a French "jam band". With such a great and fabulous rhythmic section, Will Lester, singer and guitar player, has everything he needs to create these wonderful solos and improvisations, with or without his slide, as does his master Warren Haynes. This album has been produced in four days and despite the "under mixed" voice on some tunes, General Store delivers a great album.

When you listen their cover of "Soulshine", one of the nicest ones I've ever heard, you'll know General Store is one of a kind band. While waiting for their next release, go and catch them on stage. (Dominique Turgot)

Italian music scene is not known only through San Remo and belcanto, but also for high quality and vibrant blues scene which is ranked among the best in Europe by experts. Especially in recent years Italian blues scene has been growing constantly and one of its best exponents is Mama's Pit, a band that shows off their potential with every concert, with every new recording.

Official formed in 1995, on remains of the popular band Big Fat Mama, whose starry moments include appearances with some top names like Robert Plant, James Cotton, Billy Cobham, Brother Jack McDuff and Mike Stern. Mama's Pit members are powerful vocalist Barbara Vulso, explosive guitarist Alessio Menconi, original keyboard player Federico Basso, and powerful rhythm section of Danilo Parodi-bass and Salvatore Cammilleri-drums. They play mostly original material plus few covers from the old masters like B.B.King, Al Green, Jimi Hendrix and alike.

Their latest CD "Mama's Pit" include guest appearances by Johnny Mars and James Thompson, well known and respected members of blues fraternity. Mama's Pit play the blues with conviction moving smoothly within the ranks of loose blues frames with some funk and rock spice for "better taste"! Vocalist Barbara Vulso stands out with her emotional delivery which is top class. Same can be said for guitarist Menconi and keyboardist Basso, while rock solid rhythm section build strong foundation of Mama's sound. (Vasja Ivanovski - Beyep)

Freeky Cleen & Dickey F 2011 Ins & Outs

Genre: Rock
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:38:41
Size: 88,49 MB

Uktaine

The one-man rock'n'roll band Freeky Cleen was started in 2004 when Ilya Polishchuk (guitar, bass, vocals, percussion and harmonica) and Alex Okhrimenko (tech) fondly decided to challenge the world’s major record labels by creating their own home studio and possibly their own label after the band had failed to get signed. They built, installed and configured their recording equipment themselves which they believed would set them apart from other recording studios in Kyiv, Ukraine (Eastern Europe) - mostly pop-oriented at the time.

Ilya came to try the new gear and soon he got so involved with exploring new sonic ideas that he felt he should take a chance to capture a few original songs previously kept in cold storage. As a result of this blistering effort Freeky Cleen's debut album "Infertility" was released in 2005. The album contained all original compositions with elements of hard rock, boogie woogie, and rhythm and blues which reflected the band's kick-ass back-to-the-roots attitude.

The early hits by Freeky Cleen such as “Evil Mother” and “Dead Man’s Show” brought the band to local “celebrity” status in Kyiv and established Freeky Cleen as soul-mates to US sleaze rockers of the late 80s. Technically restricted to their own sound, the guys went on to develop better sonic concepts which led them to record a new album entitled “Augean Stables” (2006).

The second Freeky Cleen’s album incorporated memorable songs such as “Male Chauvinist Pig”, “What It Takes” and a power ballad "One For Me" which held a dynamic balance of Ilya’s expressive roar with his dexterity on the guitar. The album “Augean Stables” received very positive reviews. The latest album “Street Roots” (2007) contains only a few songs at this point but the powerful bluesy hits “Jellyroll Lovin” and "Mr. Please Me" really beg to be heard.

Although the guys have been aware they are in a bad time for rock'n'roll they would still hope to build up another home of true rock spirit. Have a taste of that straight-ahead gritty and bluesy rock – absolutely free of trendy stuff!

I found this CD 7 years ago and have been listening to it regularly ever since. Tremendous vocals, blistering guitar and backed by Gov't. Mule drummer Matt Abst (with cameo by Warren Haynes), this release really grooves. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a sophomore release from Mr. Anderson. He is an incredibly gifted blues musician and while he may be doing a regular gig in the country music field, he truly belongs in the blues genre. I am a big fan of this man and would love to hear other music by him. Also, for those of you who do not know, there is a hidden track at the end, #13 and is untitled. Bottleneck blues instrumental, just amazing. C'mon Chris, give us MORE!!!! Mike in Ohio

Well, been waiting a while to be able to spring this news on you. "Live and Kicking at Lexington" Has Been Released by Wounded Bird Records (a company that specializes in reissuing classic rock albums on CD).

Now for the back story. August 8th and 9th of 1970, PG&E did 2 shows at the federal drug rehab center in Lexington, KY. The filmmaker Lawrence Schiller was there to make a documentary of the band, the facility and it's inmates. Columbia (now owned by Sony) was also there, recording the shows for a planned live album. When Schillers film didn't go into national release (it was only shown twice in California before being shelved by a judge) Columbia chose to stop work on the record.

Recent research has uncovered that Sony still has the tapes... about 9 unmixed multi-tracks and 4 stereo masters. These stereo masters are now available on CD thanks to Wounded Bird. This is a once in a lifetime chance to hear the band in their natural element, on stage. No other full live album has ever been released by PG&E. (http://www.pacific-gas-electric.com)

Bas Paardekooper & The Blew Crue 2008 Hang On To Tomorrow

Genre: Blues
Rate: 160 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:30:47
Size: 35,19 MB

Biography

At the age of eleven, twenty-two years after the death of the phenomenal guitar-player Jimi Hendrix, Bas Paardekooper was struck by the sound of ‘Hey Joe' coming out of his grandma's stereo. Bas immediately took up his guitar and made an arrangement to this classic song, which had just opened the door to his musical career. Fed by records, cassette tapes, video's and, not in the last place, the musical environment of the Paardekooper family, Bas mastered the basics of Blues and Rock guitar. Soon his feeling for the instrument and his pleasure in playing made him well-known in the neighbourhood and it did not take long before he started performing on stage with fellow musicians. When he was fifteen years old, the Living Blues legend Ted Oberg heard him play and decided to take Bas under his musical wings for a time to develop his Blues-play.

After he finished school, Bas and a few former class mates formed a band called Blue Illusions. In this setting he mainly played old Rock and Blues covers. El Diablo followed later on, a four-men band, based on the hard Blues-rock style. To add new styles to his guitar-playing technique, Bas entered the (commercial) cover circuit and became an all-round guitar- player for a while in the bands Tjeez and Ramble. After a lot of practicing and playing, a period of complete musical rest set in. When he met all-round musician Wouter Hoek after a time, who encouraged him to pick up playing, Bas at first joined several jam sessions before playing in a band called React.

Bas Paardekooper and the Blew Crue made their first official appearance in 2007, although most members of the band had already been playing together in different settings.

Members of the band are:

Bas Paardekooper (Guitar and vocals)
René Mijnten (Bass and vocals)
Roel van Leeuwen(Drums and vocals)
Wouter Hoek (Keys and vocals)

Being inspired by Steve Ray Vaughan, Walter Trout and Jimi Hendrix their style can be best described as American Blues-Rock. The repertoire is heavy at times, but contains some beautiful ballads as well. All compositions are self made, forming a perfect basis for the spectacular and surprising guitar-sound of Bas Paardekooper. (http://www.baspaardekooper.com/)

WT Feaster Band 2007 Long Overdue

Genre: Blues-Rock
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 48000
Time: 00:44:36
Size: 102,15 MB

United States

Album Notes

Long Overdue Indeed,

The Indianapolis power trio of Travis Feaster (guitar and vocals), Austin Shearer (bass), and Jake Iseminger (drums) are joined by J. Wesley Smith on piano and organ for the band's superb debut album, Long Overdue.

After years in residency at the famous Slippery Noodle Inn playing covers of Hendrix, SRV, and all of the Kings, the W.T. Feaster Band has come up with ten great original songs confirming the transition to accomplished musicians in their own right. Celebrity endorsement has already come from Tad Robinson, one of the top singers of Soul Blues, who opines, "Nice sounds, good songs, and great playing."

The CD is a mix of Blues, Rock, Soul, and groovy Funk, with Feaster proving that he can write poignant lyrics as well as play one of the fastest guitars in the midwest. Smith's keyboard playing is melodic improvisation at its best while Iseminger lays down infectious rhythms, adding subtle nuances and clever changes in pace and dynamics. Add the constant, solid rolling bass of Shearer and the outcome is the perfect platform for the bandleader's mellifluous voice and his mind-bending, diamond-hard riffs as Feaster mercilessly attacks his Fender Stratocaster which screams with an edgy intensity on some tracks and is played with gentle intricacy on others.

Tracks that stand out are the pure Blues of "Walk On," the soulful "Out Of Time," and the slow, haunting "Devil's Daughter," the latter sounding atmospheric courtesy of Smith's captivating organ playing. Appropriately, the CD climaxes with the instrumental "Big Ed," showcasing the talents of the remarkable Travis Feaster whose scorching and piercing solos are played effortlessly and with nimble dexterity. This young band is now ready to blast headfirst into the future and lead a new generation of Blues fans down to the Crossroads, something that is long overdue. Watch out for Feaster's first visit to the U.K. in 2008 as the band sounds even better live than in the studio. (Dave Scott - Blues Matters! Publication)
