Howlin' Bill 2009 Live At Ancienne Belgique

Genre: Blues
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 01:12:12

Belgium

(http://www.musicinbelgium.net/)

Nico Backton & Wizards of Blues is considered by critics and the press as one of the best acoustic Blues bands on the French scene. Nico is very pleased to present the 'Wizards of Blues' for a musical journey from Memphis to Chicago, crossing the shores of the Yazoo River. "This record is an appointment with history you are not allowed to miss". Blues Again Magazine. This CD crosses the United States from down South up to the cold North, from dusty cotton fields to the screaming streets of Chicago meeting either the most famous, or unknown Blues-artists and songs from the 30's, 40's, 50's. "Roots and Stories" is an amazing album that deserves a listen. (http://www.dwmmusic.com)

Barfly's 2000 Living In Sin

Genre: Blues-Rock
Rate: 264 kbps VBR / 44100
Time: 00:39:36
Size: 73,01 MB

Belgium

If you are looking for some new rocking blues with lots of guitar and a strong driving beat, then check out "Living In Sin" the debut album from The Barfly's.

The Barfly's are a rockin' three piece based in Antwerp, Belgium. Tom Van de Reydt leads from the front playing a mean guitar and delivering some fine vocals, Peter Janssens on bass provides a thumping groove, that really keeps moving, and Eric de Schutter does an admirable job beating the skins. The band's influences are obviously wide, from Quo to Zeppelin, with a measure of Texas and West Coast thrown in for good measure.

All eleven tracks on this comparatively short 40 minute album are original recordings all written by the band, or their associate Howlin' Bill. The themes of the songs follow the usual blues mix of being in and out of love, sex, and beer (well they probably drank lots while making the album judging by the acknowledgements on the CD insert)

It was good that the guys keep the tracks short, they blast out a song and when they have said everything the song ends without any self-indulgent prevarication. The highlights include "Boogie Man", which has a good bluesy feel, "Dealin' Love" featuring some fine guitar work, "In My Dreams" with a good bass riff, and the nice harp on "Barfly Boogie".

The Barfly's have a good live following in Belgium, and this album should give them some deserved exposure in the rest of Europe and North America. So turn up the volume and boogie with the Barfly's. (Blues on stage)

I first saw THE CREW opening a concert by Albert Collins, touring Belgium.... They didn't disappoint me, nor the public. Even Albert Collins, the Master of the Telecaster, took an interest in those five whities playing and singing the blues, wailing soul or rocking the joint. At the end of his show, Mr. Collins invited ANN DE BRUYN for a supreme moment that night; her dueting (NOT dueling!) the Master's Telecaster. Both brother Jan and sister Ann De Bruyn are an outstanding musical pair. They both possess a unique dark and soulful voice (for whities that is!). They also know how to get you into some fingersnapping or get through to your deepest emotions.

Try this album! Have a listen to it! You will surely find out that people in Belgium and Holland are not only growing taller, but also darker. (Mark Lefever)

Give Buzze 1993 Give Buzze

Genre: Blues-Rock
Rate: 219 kbps VBR / 44100
Time: 00:41:52
Size: 69,68 MB

Belgium

Belgian R&B-band with an incredible live-reputation.

The band was founded in 1979 and is still very much alive today, and despite it's long life still in the same "cast": guitar and vocals and songwriting by Dirk D'Hondt, bass by Frans Vlaeminck, and drums by Luc Vanderhaeghen. The name of the band is in the dialect of Ghent and means something like "C'mon, Go for it, Step on it ...". Initially, the full name of the band was "The Give Buzze Blues Band", later it became "The Give Buzze Band", now it's simply "Give Buzze".

The music that they produce is rhythm'n boogie, somewhere in between George Thorogood, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Status Quo and ZZ-Top. Unlike many bands in this genre, they have never resorted to playing endless covers of these American examples, but have always brought their own work.

The most important artifacts of the band cannot be measured in hits, record sales or other commercial stories. In fact their loathing of publicity and shyness for any media-exposure was called "legendary" in Humo once. The actual existence of the band lies in the rehearsal room (still 2 times a week so it seems) and of course on stage. In it's 20 years of existence, the band has given over 1,100 concerts all across the country in both the best and the worst conditions.

Or as they write in their own bio : "The endless driving, the toiling to set up and break down everything before and after the show ... it all melts like snow in the sun when we finally can get things going : Give Buzze on stage, rock rhythm’ & blues, the rough stuff. A steaming rhythm-section, with a tearing slide-guitar on top of it. A Three-man-piece that has grown together over the years with only one goal: give good shows, rough yet with attention to detail, sober yet entertaining. Three man, not a simple set-up to keep an audience interested, but easy to keep the band together. A set-up that makes it difficult to play, yet easy to pay the bills ..."

The 1,000th concert was given in an airplane that the group had chartered for itself (a Beechcraft 36). As the always witz-ready PDW wrote in the TTT-agenda at the time "there was - in ancient Buzze-tradition - of course no recording of the show, although the pilot was allowed to broadcast it through his radio. At one time things got a bit hot, when they were getting close to the German border and a border patrol interpreted the sound as a war-declaration".

In 1993 they took the step of recording a chunk of their material on CD, in a production of Jean-Marie Aerts (see TC Matic, Big Bill, JMX ...). On this album, they took care to record the songs as "live" as possible. (http://houbi.com/belpop/groups/givebuzze.htm)
