Forevermore by Dannika Dark (audio)  #12.5

This novella was a special treat to the conclusion of the Crossbreed series featuring Raven and Christian. Nicole Poole does a fantastic job with all the voices.

The 6:20 Man by David Baldacci

Travis Devine takes the same train every morning. Littles does he know how important this train ride will be when he is drawn into the death of a co-worker.  A fast-paced, twisty thriller that I hope will be turned into a series featuring Travis.

Dirty Thirty by Janet Evanovich #30

Stephanie takes a side job after a jewelry store robbery.  She is also watching Morelli's dog that can't be left alone. Lula moves in after her home is fire bombed.  Then things get really crazy and she need a little help. Fast paced and entertaining. Interesting ending with leading us to believe Stephanie will have to make a choice.  Enjoyed the 30 favorite quotes that the end.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Summer of Songbirds  by Kristy Woodson Harvey

Thoughts on a few of the books I read last month:

The Fearless One by Lori Foster

Jedidiah shows up at Memphis' barely opened RV park asking for a job.  He is immediately suspicious, but also intrigued by her.  She needs to find some long ago hidden evidence and then be on her way.  Memphis has a plan for this out of the way RV park and her sudden appearance may put it in jeopardy, but he is willing to go along.  Quickly her past comes back and things ramp up with plenty of action and suspense.  An entertaining installment in the Osborn brother's series.
*Thanks to Canary Street Press/NetGalley for this review copy*

The Sweet Spot by Amy Poeppel (audio)

Family, friends and frenemies are united by a need for revenge, a job, a brownstone and a baby.  Funny, dysfunctional, triumphant. Narrated by a full cast that did a good job identifying the character's voice. Plenty of laugh out-loud moments.
*Thanks to Simon and Schuster Audio for this review copy*

Evildoer by Dannika Dark # 12 (audio)

Raven and the Keystone group are tasked with a job that will test all of their skills. Christian's secrets are revealed that lead to decisions that could destroy. A wonderful conclusion to this favorite series with plenty of laughs and heartstring tugs.  Nicole Poole did a fabulous job with these characters and her narration made the series a must listen for me.  It is bittersweet to say goodbye, but look forward to what comes next for this author.

Thoughts on a few of the books I read last month:

The Duke's Best Friend by Jane Ashford #5

Kate grew up with her grandfather, a diplomat. When he died she figured she would take over where he left off.  The doors have been closed to her and she finds other means to carry on the work.  Henry has just been hired to the Foreign Office and wants more than his entry level position.  Kate has ways to obtain information, but needs Henry to help her.  They agree to partner and soon find themselves embroiled in a mystery that heats things up.  Secondary characters help them out and add to the story.  Overall a good installment in the series.

Knockout by Sarah MacLean (audio) #3

Imogene and her group of ladies named Hells Bells are champions of the less fortunate, labeled vigilantes (one they will acknowledge). Scotland Yard Det. Thomas notices that they seem to be around when things get blown up and sets out to figure all things out.  Little does he know Imogene will blow up his world figuratively and literally. A wonderful installment in this series narrated by the ever brilliant Mary Jane Wells.  Looking forward to Duchess' story.

The Talk of Coyote Canyon by Brenda Novak #2

Ellen has moved to town after her grandmother's death.  She has history here and is determined to make herself known.  She sets up a drilling business in direct competition to her father's and once she has put him out of business she will be on her way.  Little does she know that her plans will g change once she gets involved with Hendrix, her father's right hand man.  He becomes sympathetic towards Ellen when her work is sabotaged that points to his company. When secrets are revealed will she be able to forgive and find a life of happiness?  Great second book in the series.
*Thanks to HTP/NetGalley for this review copy*

The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs #22 (audio)

A simple call out to investigate a possible lightening strike sets Temperance on a investigation in Turks and Caicos. Once there she realizes there is more going on than expected, and with the help of local Det. Musgrove they set out to find the connection. A gruesome link seemingly connects the cases. As they get close a tragic occurrence happens, the story takes off and it soon becomes dangerous for Tempe. The narration of Linda Emond helped keep all the characters straight as well as glued to the story. A perfect long drive listen.
*Thanks to Simon & Schuster Audio for review copy*

North of Nowhere by Allison Brennan

Fast paced thriller that kept me riveted on a plane ride.

Quicksilver by Dannika Dark (audio) #11

Raven and her group are placed under a curse and must figure out how to break it before it is too late. Brilliantly narrated by Nicole Poole.  Looking forward to the conclusion of this series in Evildoer

Thoughts on a few of the books I read last month:

Suddenly This Summer

Three second chance at love stories are included in this book.  Each story is enjoyable and a quick read.  Two of the three authors are new to me and I look forward to searching out their backlist.
*Thanks to HTP/NetGalley for this review copy*

The Keeper of Hidden Books by Madeline Martin

Triumphant story of a young girl determined to help save not only books, but her friends and town during the ravages of war. Zofia is easy to root for as she experiences the atrocities that are forced upon her family and friends. The joy they find in keeping hidden books that were destined for destruction shines through as well as the heartbreak of losing everything, but willing to do all possible to keep going..  At times not an easy book to read, but well worth the time.
*Thanks to HTP/NetGalley for this review copy*

True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren (audio)

Fizzy is a beloved romance author experiencing a writing slump.  She agrees to be part of a reality show figuring it will help her writing.  They utilize DNADuo (from a previous book) to match Fizzy, film her dates and have the audience vote on who is the best match. Connor, a documentarian, is forced to produce this show, and reluctantly agrees. Of course they hit it off but have to hold off on the attraction to do the show.  Who will turn out to be her perfect match? Jonathan Cole and Cindy Kay do a great job narrating this often laugh out loud story.
*Thanks to Simon & Schuster Audio for this review copy*

Talulah's Back In Town by Brenda Novak #1

Talulah has a reputation of a runaway bride.  Her great aunt has died and she arrives back in town where she left her first groom to take care of the estate.  She hopes to slip in and get arrangements made and slip out.  Brant the former groom's best man and friend spies her in town.  He is intrigued by why she is there and as he discovers more about her things get complicated. A good beginning to a new small town series.
*Thanks to HTP/Mira/NetGalley for this review copy*

The Twelve Dogs of Christmas by Susan Wiggs

Brenda hates Christmas and cold weather.  It is when she discovered that her husband is a cheater.  She has worked hard over the last year at moving on.  She is heavily involved in placing rescued dogs with new families.  She also writes children's books, but is yet to be published.  Due to unforeseen circumstances she is needed to help drive 11 dogs from Houston to Avalon, NY.  Of course she is dragged along kicking and screaming, but cares about these dogs.  While there she meets Adam, one of the adoptees.  A comedy of situations causes her to stay longer than she expects and gives Adam time to convince her that something is happening between them.  Will she find a second chance and be able to start over in a place she wants to hate?  A great story with plenty of laughs and cute furry friends.
*Thanks to William Morrow/NetGalley for this review copy*

The Notorious Lord Knightly by Lorraine Heath #2 (audio)
Second chance at love in this second book of the Chessman series. Regina was left at the altar by Knightly without the true reason being told.  Five years later she has returned with way to revenge her hurt.  The story has the ton either loving it or wanting it to be destroyed for indecency.  As Regina seeks another marriage Knightly has the idea they should "reconcile" to clear the way for her acceptance.  Regina reluctantly agrees. They soon discover their feelings are stronger than before but neither sees a way to the other side.  Kate Reading brilliantly narrates their story.

August was a great reading month for me with plenty of down time to relax and unplug!

Thoughts on a few of the books I read last month:

Whispers At Dusk by Heather Graham #1

This spin off from the Krewe of Hunters gets off to a good start with Delia and Mason hunting a serial killer.  They are part of a group with special gifts - they are able to communicate with the dead. The duo travel all over Europe and end up in Louisiana hunting this elusive killer who promises his minions immortality by following him.  The history included is intriguing, at times the story got bogged down, but was interesting enough to keep reading.  I look forward to the next book that features these two characters.
*Thanks to HTP/MIRA/NetGalley for this review copy*

The Book Club Hotel by Sarah Morgan

Friends since college Erica, Anna and Claudia work hard at their friendship despite their lives going in different directions.  Each woman is close to 40 and is experiencing major changes. They meet together for a week and discuss a book as well as spend time together.  This time Erica picks a place that is totally out of character for her.  The reason is a major part of the story that changes everything she thought she wanted in life.  Anna is facing an empty nest and realizes she keeps thinking about what she is losing rather than what remains.  Claudia's relationship of 10 years has ended and she lost her job.  She is floundering and needs this time away.  Hattie is the owner the the Inn and is trying to maintain everything she and her husband started before his death two years ago.  A wonderful story of friendship, second chances in an inviting setting of Vermont.
*Thanks to HTP/Canary Press/NetGalley for this review copy*

Murder at Haven's Rock by Kelley Armstrong #1

Enjoyed this spin-off book from the Rockton series.  When their time in Rockton ends Casey and Eric knew they wanted to continue with the spirit of a small hidden town. Before they arrive two people on the construction crew have gone missing, which causes them to arrive earlier than expected.  When a body is found the investigation begins.

Code 6 by James Grippando

This fast paced thrilled about data and cyber security will get you thinking about how much is out there on all the social media platforms.

Desert Star by Michael Connelly #5

Love the duo of Ballard and Bosh. Titus Welliver and Christine Lakin do such a great job narrating these two characters as they work in the unsolved crimes department.

Thoughts on a few of the books I read last month:

The Best Summer of Our Lives by Rachel Hauck

Four friends from childhood dubbed themselves the "four season" based on their names. Spring, Summer, Snow and Autumn. They find out the summer before college begins that the life they planned was not the life planned for them.. Told in alternating voices past and present secrets and fears are revealed that will need forgiveness, understanding and reconciliation.  A great clean summer read.

A Rogue At Stonecliff by Candace Camp

Sloan and Annabeth have their future planned awaiting her 21st birthday.  But as some plans do things go awry when Sloan is confronted with a difficult decision.  Do what is asked of him or hurt the woman he loves.  Both will be devastating to her and her family.  He makes the decision he believes is the best.  When he returns 12 years later a mystery reveals itself that both need to work together to solve.  Will this be a second chance for them?  A fast-paced, enjoyable read.
*Thanks to Harlequin Pub./NetGalley for this review copy.*

Seabreeze Inn by Jan Moran (audio) #1
Great beginning to a new series about second chances.  Ivy's husband spent their savings on a beach home right before he died.  She moves their with the help of her sister to see if she can dig herself out of financial ruin by turning this money pit into a bed and breakfast.  She finds opposition but it determined.  A mystery helps bridge the conflict.  Wonderfully read by Erin Bennett. I look forward to book two.

Lassiter by J.R. Ward #21 (audio)

Not the story I was expecting for Lassiter at. all. Too much of Lash and Devina.  A  shocking loss was just confusing and not redeemable with the epilogues. The wonderful narration of Jim Frangione could not save this 21st installment for me
