You Don't Know Me!

Love Monday Nights in Chicago watching Patricia Barber at the Green Mill. Here's a favorite of mine ... You Don't Know Me! Written by Eddy Arnold and performed in numerous movies such as Elvis Presley in "Clambake" in 1967 and Ray Charles in "Groundhog Day" in 1993.

Bye Bye Blackbird

I love jazz. I used to be real big on the blues until I heard a man say, "Blues is something you get! Jazz is what you do about it!" Well, ... I still like to hear the blues ... but I love feel the jazz. I have obtained a fairly large collection of jazz over the years. Here is a sample of what I really like to hear when I am sitting around, driving a car or out dining in the city of Chicago.

Listen to Patricia Barber's Bye Bye Blackbird. I love the feel of the smoke filled piano bar. I like her smokey voice and the live sound of a piano well played. Listen to her wail that piano in the middle of this track. Sassy! I would kill to entertain people like this. Wouldn't you love to swing like that? It just makes me feel good. Give a listen and tell me if you like this feel. This is a jazz classic with a bluesey feel.

Swing baby, you're platinum!

Jazzy Blues For Your Monday

Give a listen to this blue-sy jazz piece called "True Blues" featuring incredible jazz pianist Keith Jarrett.
This is a jazzy version of the blues. As I have said ... Blues is something you just get! Jazz is what you do about it ... and if you can make that happen in the same song you end up with this classic.
Listen to this and try to keep from tappin' those toes.

Hope your week will chase away the blues and be full of jazz!

The Jazz Of Keith Jarrett

Well, here's hoping you have a great week. Give A Listen to one of the world's greatest living pianos, Keith Jarrett playing one of my favorites, Autumn Leaves. Keith can play standing, sitting, screamin', moanin', or flat out walking around the room. Jarrett's skill is explosive and he is a creative blast to hear.

Sway With Boo-Blay

This weeks "Jazzin' Up your Saturday" features a great young (relatively speaking) Canadian singer who has amazing worldwide following. His name is Michael Buble (that's boo-blay not bubbley like my son says). Listen to the glide of this swinging jazz standard called "Sway"

May your Saturday be full of joy ... that swings!

Girl Talk Jazz

This weeks "Jazzin' Up your Saturday" features another great piano. All in, this is my favorite piano. Canadian Oscar Peterson plays his version of a jazz standard called "Girl Talk". Well, with a name like that, ya gotta like it and I believe you will. So give a listen!

Today our oldest daughter, Erin has a really big birthday. Erin is our first born and she has hit her first-est major birthday milestone. You know, ... that birthday that chicks cease to count. Erin is wife of Sean and proud Mom to 5 little GIRLS.

Well, ... Happy Birthday Erin! You are right. I never thought I would have a kid that made to your birthday age. You are still precious to us and ... we are so proud of that ugly determined-to-succeed streak you got from your mother. We love you no end! Dad.
May all your Saturdays have exactly all the Girl Talk you can stand. I guess you can take that two ways.

Good weekend to all of you.

Jazzin' It Up Again

This weeks "Jazzin' Up yer Saturday" features the great horn of Miles Davis. This track is called "So What" on perhaps the number one selling jazz record of all time, called "Kind of Blue". This track was recorded in 1959 and you could say it launched Miles Davis to became bigger than ever as a result. It was all just a little over 50 years ago. I love listening to "So What" during a rainstorm. I have no idea why. Hope you enjoy!
May your Saturday listening be Kind Of Blue.

Jazzin' Up Your Saturday

This week give a listen to a famous guitar who crossed over into pop rock during his career. In his early days, George Benson played jazz guitar. Give a listen to George Benson playing one of my favorite old classics, "The Shadow Of Your Smile". I also love Herb Alpert's version of this same song.
Here's hoping that the sun shines on your weekend and that the shadow of your smile is seen by all you love. Have a great one!

Jazzin' With Gene

Happy Jazz Saturday! This week give a listen to a piano player that always makes ya feel good. Don't run away too early. Let this song build on ya and let the incredible Gene Harris blow the doors off with his version of the great jazz standard, "Summertime". Ray Brown introduces Gene. I wish I could have met these jazz greats. Ray is perhaps the most recorded bass player in the jazz history due to his long standing career with Canadian great piano artist, Oscar Peterson. Hope you all have an awesome weekend.

Jazzing Up Your Saturday On NikonSniper

Give a listen to Diana Krall and a favorite jazz standard of mine called East of the Sun!
My neighbor had to endure this kind of music blasting in my backyard till all hours of the night for the entire summer of 2008. I never had a complaint! This is what I like to do when the mosquitos are dead and gone.
