That secret project

My eldest son will be 21 soon (where did all those years go). I made him a quilt as part of his birthday pressie. His nickname at school was Scotsman, so I thought he would appreciate some tartan. Thanks to my mum for sending over the fabric.

Birthday Pressies

Although my birthday is now a dim and distant memory I thought you might like to see a couple of my favorite birthday pressies. Thank you to Keriann for the beautiful spotty tablecloth below and the lavender heart to add to the collection.
And a very big thank you to Katherine for the wonderful real American Quilt. The colours of which match perfectly with the curtains in the study.

Today's Daisy

I found today's daisy on a quilt at Keirunga Quilters quilt exhibition.

I had forgotten all about it until Keriann suggested we go and have a look.
These are some of my favourites. I felt very inspired and wanted to go home and do some quilting.
I love the design of the quilt below, very simple but wonderful. I think I would like to try one of these. My eldest son will be 21 next year. I would like to do a quilt for him. I think this is the design I would like to do.
I loved the colours of this quilt, again very simple but very effective. Unfortunalty, I did not take a photograph of my favourite quilt. I was too busy looking at it.

Today's Daisies #66 - Nearly finished

After over a year of sewing and days away from Spring, I have nearly finished my green daisy quilt. The first quilt I have made that I have worked on for a long time and still like. Usually there is a point I reach where I hate the quilt and have to put it away for a while. Not this time I can't wait to get it finished and on the bed. I really love this quilt.

Borrowed Comfort

One of my friends wanted me to pick up one of the quilts from Keirunga quilt show. Because she is at home in Calafornia at the moment, I get to look after the quilt until she returns. Which is really cool as it was my favourite quilt in the show, and it is brilliant to be able to get my hands on the quilt and get a better look at the lovely hand stiching. Thank you Katherine.

This is.......how I recycle

This weeks this is is..........This is how I recycle. The worm farm at the side of the garage that produces compost and liquid fertiliser(worm pee as the kids call it).
The recycleing station in the garage. Which as usual is empty, because all the recycleing is ...
... in a box under the sink, unsorted.
My youngests inventions. This one is a camera.
And last but not least the mountains and mountains of carefully sorted and bagged scrap fabric that I collect. Which one day will all be turned into mountains and mountains of beautiful scrap quilts, if I ever find the time.

This is .......... my Inspiration Board

My inspiration board is really the notice board in my sewing room. On it there are a few things that I don't know where else to put. Some of my Mum's work that she has sent me, the little purple quilt is one of hers. The picture is by my youngest, and I really love it, he has managed to capture a part of the character of each of the family, I think, and obviously I always walk around in a yellow mini skirt. The title of the pic is the Coulter Whanua, whanua is the Maori word for family and the "wh" is pronounced "f".
But my real inspirations are actually my lap top and all you crafty bloggers out there and .....
The world outside my window and little things like the tiles above. I have had them lying around for years, I love them, but still do not know what to do with them.

Finished the little quilt

Finished my little quilt to match the new cushions in the lounge. I wanted it to cover our old stool. I would like Peter to make me a new stool. But this should do in the meantime. Though I am not sure if it looks a bit twee. What do you think?

Today's Daizies - Still Going

Today's Daizies or on the quilt I am still working on. After 18 months I am not going to be defeated. But I will never do one like this again. Way to much hard work, it took all the fun out of patchwork. I will finish it soon. Would anyone like it, because by the end I will be sick of the sight of it. Or perhaps I should just put it away for a few years then I may have changed my mind and like it again.

Golden Wedding

In a few days time time it will be my Mum and Dad's Golden Wedding Anniversary. Above is the quilt I made for them. It has taken me so long to do it, I really thought I would miss the date and it would arrive late. Why it took so long was the amount of thought that went into it. I even wrote the little poem that goes around the edge of the quilt.

Today's Daisies

Today's Daisies on some very cool japanese fabric I found on the web quite by chance. I was reading an email from Kerrian and noticed an ad at the side for a web site called Fabric Tales. Thought I would take a quick glance, who can pass up a visit to a fabric shop, even if the visit is only a virtual one on the web. Yummy fabrics, I can feel a Japanese quilt coming on some time soon. Now when I say soon, there is a large list of projects that are currently still underway, so that soon may be some time off. Which will give me a chance to start adding a few oriental fat quarters to my stash.

Today's Daisies

Today's Daisies on a hexagon quilt. Sarted in the 70's by Ros Lusk and waiting to be finished. A friend of mine in Scotland once took I think it was 40 years to finish her hexagon quilt. I am sure all quilters have a few UFOs in among their quilting store, I know I have. All of which I intend to finish this year. "Yeah right!" says a little voice at the back of my head.

Heart Warming Quilts

I had a spare 15 minutes this afternoon, between leaving work and collecting kids from school. I think I spent it very wisely on a flying visit to the Hawkes Bay Patchworkers and Quilters "Heart Warming Quilts" exhibition at Hastings Community Art Centre. I am always amazed by the standard of work on display, and the talent of the quilters in Hawkes Bay.

The venue for the exhibition is Hastings community art centre. An art deco building that was originally the china department of Westerman's Department Store (I think). I really like the way that some of the quilts are just thrown over the balcony.
