The Moon and The Stars

The Carter Observatory in Wellington mentioned that at them moment you can see Venus, the Moon and Jupiter in alignment. Peter and I thought we would see if we could spot them.
Finding the Moon and Venus was not to difficult.
Then very faintly in the top right hand corner of this photo I think this might be Jupiter. Just might be, because frankly it could be any other star. We really have no idea, but it would be nice to think they all lined up for us.

Amazing what a little bit of ash does .........

Half way around the world a volcano throws out ash. Causing havoc to airlines from here to there. Making the most amazing moonrise,

moon set and

fiery sunsets.

Moon rise

While cooking the evening meal, I got distracted watching the moon rising. One day I will capture what I can see, but till then you will have to put up with the blurry images.

Moonlight?

I got some great pics of the moon this morning. It makes quite a cute bauble for the top of the conifer at the front of our house.

Just to even out the sunsets here is some of this mornings sunrise with a little fingernail moon. You might have to click on the pic to actually see the fingernail moon.

Another Moon Shot

The moonrise yesterday was really beautiful. A giant full moon floating in a mauve sky. Unfortunatly I did not have my camera with me and by the time I got home the mauve sky had gone.

Moonlight

Moonlight through the clouds two nights ago. I need to read my camera's instruction book and learn how to take night time shoots. As I am just not getting the sharpness and quality I would like. Yes, the colours were as seen above I have not messed about with them.
More moon pics from last night. I also need to get myself some decent image software. In the pic above you can just make out the leaves on the tree, but it would look so much better if the image could be lightened a bit and I have no idea how to do this. Maybe I should take a night school in Digital Photography this year.

Lunar Eclipse

A snap of last nights lunar eclipse, sorry about the wobbly image, afraid this was the best one of the whole bunch. One day I will have to invest in a tripod to get decent night images.
I have seen a very cool camera that I would one day like. A panasonic Lumix with a 12x optical zoom and stabilisers to stop camera shake. I now have a mental picture of me taking pictures with two push bike stabilisers sticking out of the sides of my camera. In actuality there are tiny gyroscopes in the camera that pick up the movement and adjust the image. Unfortunately it costs almost $1000 dollars. It could be a long wait or maybe a blue moon before I get such a cool camera.

Moonrise tonight. Thanks to Peter's help with cropping the image, to get rid of a stray street light.
