Recent Disaster

The recent earthquakes and tsunami that followed for hours by more than 50 aftershocks, many of them more than magnitude 6.0, has raised concern here is the states as many families worry about their loved one's overseas. I have two friends that are being affected by this horrible disaster and they are worried sick about their children.  One is stationed on a military base outside of  Japan, and the other lives in Hawaii, and drives a charter sailboat around the islands.
The Red Cross in our local area has issued an "activation call" to other state and local branches.  This call center will be based in the McKinney, TX area.  I only know that there will be a huge need for assistance and worldwide help.

Hey, parents, it's that time of the year again.......Texas' 11th annual sales tax holiday starts at midnight tonight. To save $8, you have to spend $100. It started as a back-to-school financial break for parents. Most apparel, shoes, backpacks and school supplies priced under $100 are tax-exempt in Texas until Sunday at midnight. These increased sales largely represent purchases that would have been made in any case. So, either way the weekend is in full swing and it's your chance to make some good deals.

Ugly Winter Sweaters

What can we say about these things? They tend to show up in the back of our closets and just hang there. Should the time arise to find one for the season, we go groping through what's there to find one we can possibly handling wearing for one day. Appropriate or not, it's all we can do to wear these Ugly Sweaters to any such occasion. Their either too bulky or filled with all this different type of wool thread that's scratchy and itchy.
What's even worse is those brand tags in the back neck areas. One time of laundering and they are stiff and can irritate the toughest of necks. I've been given several Ugly Christmas Sweaters as presents and manage to make the giver feel they had done a good thing. You feel like walking to the nearest trash bin and tossing it in. But you take it home, just in case the person asks how you like their present.
The poor men in this world get these things, almost every Christmas. It's just the thing to give to someone who you want to impress. How about a big bright green one with all the shiny balls attached? I've seen some really gross Mens Ugly Sweaters in the office during the winter time.
