I told Kent this is what the kids used to do to our Christmas tree with the ornaments when they got to be teenagers. Only with certain ones though. They looked for the flingers very first to decorate with.
This is a flinger. See? Flat, no tie or wire hanger. Maybe this says Frisbee to you like it did the kids. They'd stand back from the tree and lob it onto a branch. Wherever it landed it stayed.
Where there's one, there's two. And more. I hand stenciled, stuffed and sewed a bunch one year.
This one is illegal as a flinger. It's flat - but has a ribbon. IT WAS ALWAYS FLUNG. Now you know the happiness with which the kids hunted for flingers. They ignored the eggnog; ignored Carpenters Old Fashioned Christmas playing on the boom box while we decorated; and ignored the rules.
Made these in cross-stitching years.
This, and the red Santa like it with his walking stick (a twig from the yard), was hailed with glee usually by one of the boys. Wire hanger, right. (Plastic canvas and yarn craft.)
Were these flingers?... can't remember. I guarded them when the box of ornaments came out because they were some mom gave me - she sewed and quilted them - and they were old then. At one point each had a white string sewn to the back, easy to overlook, eh? The stocking has a red yarny even. YEAH, THESE GOT FLUNG.
I had to, had to take a picture of this very flat ornament, but not a flinger - Abbie made it for me when she was here for Christmas. Magoo dressed for the Christmas party? Perfect!

I love the flingers! Loved seeing these pics - made me say "awwww" more than once. Don't think I can remember a Christmas without them. Special.
