Blooming ...

Good Morning!
Following on from Tuesday's post I have some more photo's of how things are doing. The front border is coming along nicely, the Antirrhinum's are flowering and the Dahlia's are doing well too.

The Cosmos in one the tubs are flowering nicely.

The Hanging Baskets are slowly filling out and starting to flower. I have added Geranium's to the centre which will add some height once they too flower.

I know I have said it before but I just love how clean and fresh the blooms of this Surfinia are.

Mrs Popple has finally started opening up it's many flower heads.

The Dianthus 'Alan Titchmarsh' has had buds for weeks and one of them has slowly started unfurling. I love the little splash of lime & pink they have in the centre!

The Perennial Viola is still doing well.

And finally here's a look at two of the Sweet Pea's that are becoming my favourite's for their colouring.

A Summer Border ...

Good Morning!
Last weekend amongst the rain I managed to get my Summer border planted up at the front of the house. Usually you are meant to wait until the last week of May / first week of June to plant Summer bedding but I got impatient. It wasn't too far off anyway!

So to start off I moved all the plants I needed so that they were ready, removed all the Primroses that were previously in the border and got a bag of compost ready for the planting.

Before planting I positioned the plants first where I wanted them to go. I have used a combination of 'Yankee Doodle' Dahlia's and Antirrhinum's 'Day & Night'. I laid them out in a mix of the both.

When planting I added compost to each of the planting holes for every plant.

To finish the planting I added a top mulch over the complete border with the compost and watered in.

I repeated the planting in the back garden with my larger tuber Dahlia's. I have decided to position them in the border against the shed.

Before I go here's a few snaps of some plant closeup's I took the same day. Starting off with one of my Alliums 'Purple Sensation' ...

The border along the fence near the shed is full of blooms from the Geum's & Aquilega's.

The first Sweet Pea flower of 2014 has bloomed!

One of the Calendula 'Sunset Buff'' was starting to open ...

Finally the Hebe in the far corner has filled out and is showing it's blooms along with the Astrantia next to it which is putting on some growth!

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you are all still enjoying my blog.

Plodding Along Potting On ...

Good Morning!
I have been back in the Greenhouse over the past few days doing some more Potting On.
I started off by pricking out the Spring Onion - White Lisbon seedlings I sowed in a little tray back last month. To do this I gently teased each seedling from the tray, being careful not to be too heavy handed.

I filled a tray with compost that has cells which aren't too wide for the seedlings to cope with at this early stage.

I repeated this process for my Antirrhinum - Night & Day seedlings.

Along with pricking out seedlings I potted on my Hollyhocks which I sowed back in the Autumn. You can clearly see that some are doing better than others!

I also saved some seedlings from the bin at work this week, we sometimes have a couple left over when pricking out into packs and I'm too soft to chuck them away lol Here you can see a collection of Viola, Petunia, Anitirrhinum, Marigold and Tagetes. In the top right you can also see that some of the Nasturtiums I sowed are starting to germinate.

For those of you who are interested another 2 seedlings have come through of the Tomato that I sowed. Everything in this tray seems to be slowly making an appearance except the Didiscus!

Thanks for stopping by, I thought I'd leave you with a look at how the large pot in the back garden is doing as it's a nice cheery contrast to the chilly & rainy weather we've had the past few days!
